Deathcult Rogue would be great in this deck, it is usually unblockable if the opponent has no rogues or changelings in their creature ranks =)

3 mana is way too expensive (there is just 4 copies of a card that costs 3), plus unblockable is not as cool as fear and flying.

Have you considered adding a Cabal Coffers ? Your current mana base seems kinda dull.

Boza says... #4

Why would I want cabal coffers in this deck? There are 4 cards total that cost 3 mana, everything else is two or less. Not to mention, coffers is not legal in modern.

I am really at a Standstill with this deck. I like Bitterblossom but it makes the deck so painfully slow, it no longer serves its original tempo purpose.

Looking for suggestions to improve that.

Bitterblossom NONONO TOO SLOW I really hate it when it deals only 1 damage on turn 4.

I like Morsel Theft and put it into the MB.Rather good with Sygg, River Cutthroat .

+1 from me.

Bitterblossom slowness is a necessary evil. This deck thrives on disrupting the opponent and an endless stream of actually relevantly typed creatures is key. Finding the correct formula for the deck now that BB is there is proving a bit more difficult.

Currently, the deck is in pit stop for total overhaul.

Blackmail for Noggin Whack , same effect but way cheaper.

The difference of one mana is equal to one more card discarded. I can take those chances.

There is only 4 cards in the whole deck that cost 3 mana. Everything else is two or less mana.

This is freekin awesome! I never had seen a rogue deck before and it seems to be really, really strong. And mono-black, which is my favourite color. Have you thought about running Surgical Extraction or Extirpate ? Since your opponent is going to discard lots of cards it could be useful to remove his biggest threats. +1!

June 27, 2014 4:30 a.m.

Boza says... #11

I already have Extirpate on a stick with 4 maindeck Earwig Squad . The matchup against any combo for this deck is highly favored, with 8 discard spells and 4 pseudo extirpates.

Earwig Squad at prowl cost to strip a threat card clean out of your opponents deck seems unreal. I need to get me some of those.

I have a version of this I built for my daughter, it's great and way more powerful than it looks. I also included Mad Auntie and Peppersmoke , and I think Final-Sting Faerie . My version is budget so I went with Duress and a few cheap pump spells. A similar deck also from Morningtide is Kithkin tribal, which has the amazing Preeminent Captain . Great casual decks to play against each other.

Thanks for the comment and the suggestions! my aim is to take this from the kitchen table to the competitive scene. All the suggestions are great but the spells are too expensive or they lack impact in the competitive scene.

I really enjoy all the Lorwyn tribes and the story and world within that block. Quite possibly my favorite one!

i used to run a very similar deck in a casual setting, i did run Inkfathom Infiltrator and Sygg, River Cutthroat , they should hurt your mana base. Inkfathom is unblockable which helps cadt prowl, sygg helps you regain some form of a grip.

Boza says... #16

Sygg deserves consideration, but I am looking at SIDEBOARD suggestions only, as the title and description state. Inkfathom is too expensive mana cost wise to consider for this deck.

September 4, 2014 5:12 a.m.

Whip of Erebos would make a solid sideboard option. It can allow you to regain life lost to bitterblossom in matches where every last lifepoint matters and you can resurrect rogues temporarily, for extra damage and they'll still benefit from Oona's Blackguard triggers. Maybe Prowler's Helm and Rogue’s Gloves for some flavory situational equips.

October 6, 2014 6:49 a.m.

Boza says... #18

All of those are incredibly expensive options. There are only three cards that cost 3 mana in the whole deck.

Anything with a 4 mana cost is impossible to put into play and use effectively. Flavor is not a cosideration when going competitive Cloak and Dagger is the only equipment available for this deck, though it sucks with bitter blossom. Thanks for the suggestions though.

October 6, 2014 7:04 a.m.

Well, how about something in the vein of Night's Whisper or Sign in Blood ? Since all of your cards have such a low CMC, I'd imagine you cast your hand relatively quickly, and a couple of one would make a solid sideboard for 8-rack and discard.

October 6, 2014 7:17 a.m.

Boza says... #20

Sign in blood is an emergency 2 damage, which is a very thing. 8rack is not a thing in the meta as of yet and this is not really the way to combat them, but it is a good idea nontheless vs control decks.

Waste not is really not where this deck wants to be - it does nothing most of the time unless I have a Oona's Blackguard and counters on creatures. If I do, I am probably winning anyway. Ultimately, there is on situation where those two mana cannot be spent on something better.

Moreover, in a deck already cramped with stuff and having 0 card draw, straining the limits with a card that does not do much is not what the deck wants.

But thanks for the suggestion, keep them coming!

this looks super fast. +

not sure what to suggest here that can keep up. a couple syggs would get you some consistent card draw.. but other than that hes probably not going to do much and could potentially slow ya down. hed be good for sideboard perhaps

check out my slightly more midrange version? Rogue Riposte

Cool deck, I'm getting into playing Rogues myself.

Some thoughts:

  1. How do you deal with so much life-loss from: Dismember, Bitterblossom and Thoughtseize ?

  2. With only 2 removal spells don't you get overrun by stronger creature decks ?

  3. You have only 8 evasive creatures out of 20 (not counting Bitterblossom), doesn't it make activating Prowl harder and lowers the effectiveness of Stinkdrinker Bandit ?

I'd also like some feedback on my Rogues' deck:

Dennis14,

  1. The deck uses life as a resource - you trade it to get tempo in the game. What I have up there as a deck is the best shell for the main deck. The sideboard is very meta dependant, so you can mitigate lifeloss. The main deck is also 63 cards, which means that depending on preferences and meta, you can cut thoughtseize or something else to bring it in line.

  2. Yes, but "What I have up there as a deck is the best shell for the main deck". Depending on the meta, some choices might not be ideal, but I have tried to outline the best choices and why they are there. The numbers can change, especially in the creature department.

  3. Prickly Boggart is quite evasive as there are only 2 black creatures I can think of that are played in Modern - siege rhino and dark confidant. Earwig squad does not need to be evasive - its purpose is defeating combo decks and stopping aggressive decks. It rarely attacks. Same goes with Stinkdrinker - it enables your evasive creatures as an anthem, a second Bad Moon.

Will give your deck a look.
