This is the first deck that I have attempted to put together myself (new Magic player, two months under my belt), and I've decided to go for a Mono Black Control deck. The general aim is to bring the opponent's game plan to a halt by stalling and removing what creatures they put down to swing for life. If the deck is unable to do this, cards such as Necropotence and Rune-Scarred Demon provide card advantage that aids in pulling together a two-card combo of Sorin Markov and Sorin's Vengeance. Other win-conditions include Lashwrithe and attaching it to either Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon or Vampire Nighthawk, the latter of which aids greatly in balancing the life loss from Necropotence. The sideboard has been included mostly to counter other control decks by swapping out board sweepers or removal spells, and Curse of Death's Hold has proven excellent for playing against token decks. Vampire Sideboard — March 4, 2013

I have recently been experimenting with Mono-Black Vampires, and have decided to use the sideboard to toggle this deck between a control deck and kill-vampire deck. To do this, I have included the listed sideboard cards that will be swapped in place of the board sweepers, creatures and discard spells on the mainboard.
