A playset of Mind Sludge seems kind of excessive. I'd say cut it down to 2 or 3. I'd also say move the Doom Blades to the sideboard and use Go for the Throat in their place. You should also consider running 1 or 2 Haunting Echoes. I used it in my old Alara/Zendikar B/R discard, and it was an absolute bomb. And when it comes to Liliana, I never used her ultimate. I found her +1 and -1 to be far more valuable and useful.

Sideboard-wise, I don't see the point of running Diabolic Tutor when you can tutor with Liliana Vess. I'd mainboard the Sadistic Sacraments, too, for additional disruption and to help you set up for subsequent games. Get some Memoricides in your sideboard as well. Lastly, I don't see the point of running Assassinate when Doom Blade, Go for the Throat, Grasp of Darkness, and Deathmark are cheaper and superior removal spells.

Thanks for the suggestions, changes made. I might take out Go for the Throat and use Grasp of Darkness instead..

I agree with user:herrick3718 on this one. I use Painful Quandary in my mono-black legacy discard deck and with four card:Liliana's Caress and specters, it wrecks opponents who can't kill you with what they've got on the board already.

Any tips on what to replace with it?

I'm gonna have to further agree with adding Painful Quandary . It gives you more stalling time against your opponent, as they choose to evaluate whether it's better to lose 5 life or discard a card and face the consequences. This can give you valuable time for further getting set up with more enchantments and land.

Personally, I would -2 Sadistic Sacrament and +2 Painful Quandary . The sacraments are the only cards that don't really fit in this kind of deck, and if you need to get rid of specific cards, Memoricide is strictly better. You can sub in these card-targeters from your SB if the need arises. And you already have two sacraments for variety in there anyways.

As for removal, I would reccomend trying to get more of it in. And Grasp of Darkness over Go for the Throat would be a good move; they will be struggling to get out a decent creature with all the discarding, and this will almost guarantee you a kill (especially if they have indestructibility from a Darksteel Plate or Knight Exemplar or something.

Make some changes, and I'll +1!

You'll want some better defense, I think. Maybe add more kill spells than just 4 in the mainboard. I also get the feeling that Mind Sludge won't be helping you that much, considering its cost. (as in, by that time, they won't have many cards in hand.)

I might consider trying to fit in Horrifying Revelation , Sangromancer , or Psychic Miasma , If anyone has any advice or thoughts on whether I should or not, please let me know.

Hey man, why the Urge to Feed ? I think that Horrifying Revelation , Sangromancer and Psychic Miasma would all be good fits.

Maybe consider:

-2 Guul Draz Specter , -2 Urge to Feed , -2 Grasp of Darkness and -2 Quest for the Nihil Stone

+2 Sangromancer , +3 Horrifying Revelation and +3 Psychic Miasma

I'm suggesting this change because I think you're relying on too many cards that utilize bonuses from the opponent having no cards in hand.

Halving the number in your deck to 4 will make it more effective, plus you will be able to ensure you have the discarding cards you need right there, instead of wasting extra slots.

You have better control this way, because as soon as the opponent has a card in hand, your 8 cards you have for no-hand bonuses are nullified.

You can also probably considering removing some Mind Rot s for more creatures, if you would like.

You know you can lock the opponent down nicely with liliana's specter and mimic vat? Check it out. I have a standard discard deck Omg I just died by discard :( that abuses this combo.

I'd swap Horrifying Revelation with Inquisition of Kozilek . Getting to see your opponent's hand AND drop something like Jace Beleren , Mana Leak , Preordain , Lightning Bolt , or even their Metalcrafting Memnite is a huge advantage, when compared to just milling 1 off their deck.

As with any mono-black discard deck, the problem is that once they're top-decking, your main threat is gone. Maybe you could include Runed Servitor or Temple Bell to help out Sign in Blood ? Otherwise, I would add 2 Guul Draz Specter to capitalize on empty hands.

Hmmm you seem to be running dangerously low on creatures. You only have one mainboarded kill and very few blockers. What do you do if they get out a couple threats early like Student of Warfare or something?

One creature to at least consider would be Bloodhusk Ritualist . She is nice because the is a creature that can also make your opponent discard a large number of cards (though only later game). If not maybe slim by -1 caress and -1 painful quandary to bump up the guul draz specters again.

It's really up to you but I stink you need to address the creatures that sneak out there before you make them discard them.

I just went ahead and added the Specters and took out a Caress and Quandry

I would keep a full playset of Painful Quandary . If they are top-decking and draw a spell they'd like to cast, that spell automatically gets the extra cost of "Pay 5 life." As such, they're afraid to cast it, which de-powers the Specter, but which leaves you open to nail them with discard. It's a good effect between card:Liliana's Caress and the Quandary because it makes an opponent uneasy about even being in-game--they lose if they play it and they lose if they don't.

Nice deck. I think some cards in it have a high mana cost to pay for. Maybe you could use 2 or 3 Quest for the Nihil Stone to help accelerate it.
