I just gotta say this deck is awesome. Painful Quandary is just downright MEAN. Maybe add some Geth's Verdict ? Idk but this deck is awesome. +1

Surgical Extraction would work really well in this deck. also, go for the throat is better than dismember.

I can clearly see that this is a conversion from standard to modern. I wager you haven't delved too much into modern just yet, because there's a ton of cards here that are basically useless. In standard some of them may've been staple cards but modern is a fast format with steep mana curves. For instance, Painful Quandary , to my knowledge, isn't used in any kind of discard deck that's been built with serious thought. Liliana Vess is also terribly clunky. You really don't want to use 5 mana for a recursive, sorcery-speed, once-per-turn discard that can be dispersed easily with a couple of attackers.

Liliana's Caress isn't that great either, I've tried. The problem is that once your opponent starts playing from the top deck, Liliana's Caress turns completely useless since there's no use. This is the same reason other recursive, permanent-related discard effects (such as that of Scepter of Fugue s') are bad: They never come as a nasty suprise and the opponent has time to prioritize his spells and play cautiously. I can't believe nobody's even mentioned The Rack , which is one of the best cards you want to use when playing discard-themed deck. If you want recursive discard, go for Nezumi Shortfang , which is quite decent since it turns into a walking 3/3 rack.

What you need is cost-effectiveness cards like Oona's Prowler or Thoughtseize . And if your budget can handle shock/fetch lands, I recommend you splash in some red to play Blightning , which is probably the best thing to happen to RB control ever.

Nice deck! Discard is fun, unless they want you to put the cards in the graveyard. lol I would suggest not playing any card over 5 converted cost for this deck. -2 Mindsludge for +2 duress. Also, Liliana of the Veil over Liliana Vess for sure.

If anyone wants to grab some ideas, I'll leave this link here... just in case: it's a budget mono black discard deck *Thiopental. And don't keep Mind Sludge , it's not worth it... by the time you could cast it, the opponent would discard just 1 or 2 cards... if any. Cheers, +1!

Thoughts on Raven's Crime ? It acts as cheap discard that can repeat itself with those late game land draws

What about Monomania works great when a player has a full hand.

Monomania is ok but when you have 5 mana to spend the opponent will rarely have more than 4 cards.

I was thinking pretty much the same thing, it doesn't seem cost effective to me.

Leyline of Sanctity is definitely a problem. Something similar to Ratchet Bomb or Chalice of the Void might help with that. Surgical Extraction would also be fun in this kind of deck. Haunting Echoes is probably to expensive given what you already have.

I've play tested this and thought there was too much clutter. You may want to take out some of the higher drop spells with The Rack Dismember and Funeral Charm. If you begin to take out some of your high drops you can then decrease the number of lands you have in the deck.

This deck should only lose to Leyline of Sanctity if that card is in it's opponent's opening hand, otherwise you should be able to make them discard it.
