Needs a sideboard. Relic of Progenitus or Bojuka Bog would fit.

The infinite combo. Explain it to me please.

@Hallowed_Titan your 100% right, I'll take what ever sugestions you guys have. I know that this deck is particularly weak to Tainted Remedy so if anyone knows of a good side board answer the please tell me.

@Draglord_Sim the combo works as follows: once both Mikaeus, the Unhallowed (Mick) and Triskelion (Tri) are on board, Tri effectively has a base toughness of 2 do to Mick's passive buff to non-humans he also has 3 +1/+1counters on him. So to start the combo you take 2 of theses counters off of Tri targeting Tri to take 2 points of damage (which effectively takes him from a 5/5 to a 3/1) Then you remove 1 more counter off of Tri targeting what ever you want to take the 1damage, however Tri will die. Since Tri died and at the time of his death it had no +1/+1 counters on him Mick brings him back with what effectively 4 +1/+1 counters on him. Then you rinse and repeat now being able to remove 2 counters for damage targeting over just the 1. Convoluted don't you think?

I don't think remedy is around much in modern. Regardless, mono b can't answer enchantments well. Maybe some sacrifice cards like Geth's Verdict against boggles.

ArchFline says... #6

That is a nice one but I more ore less get that out of Gatekeeper of Malakir. Do you think it worth running that much more forced sacrifice? If so name a card in the sideboard or mainboard that I could remove to add in Geth. Thanks again for the comments :D

What's with the Disowned Ancestor? Aren't there better cards?

Got it. Thx.

@Nightdragon779 the reason why I run him is because he gives me 1 black devotion as well as that he is a 0/4 which can block for my early game. If you've notice much of my play occurs around turn 3-4 and so I often suffer from large amounts of early aggression. I had originally used Thrull Parasite but given that my turn 3-4 play is rather mana intensive I found the extort to go unused and the secondary ability to be only situational.

Maybe toss in a Vault Skirge in place of Disowned Ancestor get some early life gain then toss in 1 Death Cloud as a finisher, just in case. Oblivion Stone and Ratchet Bomb are good against enchantments.

@Squirrel_of_War I find Vault Skirge to be a bit pointless for me, I would need to bring it out on turn one (which would be the only use to me for access to early devotion) and it is really weak and offers only a marginal amount of health as I don't have cards that will buff it. I use Disowned Ancestor because it offers the early devotion that i want and the early protection that I need, before my spot removal comes online. As for Death Cloud I choose not to use this card because it is far to disrupting to me. I already carry Ratchet Bomb in my side board to fight enchantments and feel that i have enough spot removal that Oblivion Stone would be somewhat dead weight, that being said if i did need addition spot removal i would rather sideboard a Damnation over the stone but instead I choose to utilize Black Sun's Zenith for its synergy with Mikaeus, the Unhallowed. Thank you for the suggestions though I do enjoy reading constructive comments.

You could always put Typhoid Rats in place of ancestors. That way you can at least trade creatures. I have a mono black i threw together a while back you can look at, we have completely different play styles but there are some similar themes.

SO. MUCH. VALUE.

Typhoid Rats is a good suggestion I will switch them in favor of my Disowned Ancestor. As the rats have more synergy with Mikaeus.

I descide do to Typhoid Rats in favor of Ruthless Ripper as it is linearly better for what it does.

January 3, 2016 9:31 p.m.

Ruthless Ripper is a better card but since it is a human it won't get the +1/+1 and undying from Mike. It also may not matter because if Mike and Trike are out you win. Just something to think about.

ArchFline says... #16

That is true. I decided to add her even though she is human as I descide a not to rely on having mikaeus out as he sees pretty notable spot removal. For the most part I plan to use her as an early deterent and a late game source of direct damage.

how about Diabolic Tutor, or even Netherborn Phalanx can tutor for Triskelion

I do not focus on the infinite combo in this deck. The combo exists only as a late game finisher, however with the draw power built into this deck I often don't have a problem digging for a combo piece in this deck. For the most par I win with a heavy devotion drop of Gray Merchant of Asphodel or through combat as I remove most of their field presence.

Since you play Phyrexian Obliterator perhaps Arena can come in as a surprise?

January 7, 2016 8:04 a.m.

ArchFline says... #20

I had thought to add Arena but found that at best I could run 1 which was all that I could manage given its lack of mana production. I'm still not sure if it's worth adding as my early game relys heavily on a strong black mana base which means that an arena in hand or early could cost me the advantage, but perhaps I'll try it again.

January 7, 2016 10:46 a.m.

In black devotion its always a good idea to consider Gravecrawler and Geralf's Messenger, you need mana symbols on the field, and these guys tend to stick around. I'm also a huge advocate of Bloodghast. I like your combo with triskelion and mikaeus, but I think it might be of more use in another deck

January 17, 2016 4:03 p.m.

ArchFline says... #22

@Its_Johnny_Bravo I actually tend to win around 30% of my games using the combo which is relatively invaluable not to mention that each piece of the combo offers use outside of haveing the combo its self up. As for Geralf's Messenger I see many people pick this card because it offers 3 black devotion but it is not a great pick in most regards as I have many better 3 drops that offer more for my deck than a rather slow 3 drop with a bit of revision :/ as for Gravecrawler the lack of blocking loses the card for me as this deck does not attempt to win though beat down but through Gray Merchant of Asphodel which means I tend to require and favor stalling via death touch and immediate blockers/recursion rather than attempting to just B line for their face.

Crypt Ghast and something like Exsanguniate

Please be sure to mention what and why I should replace or change in favor of your suggestions as this deck does have limited card capacity to operate efficently.

If you want to run Arena in the deck you could also run a Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth so it can produce black mana. It also allows Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx to produce black mana if your devotion isn't high enough to use its second ability.Anyway, great deck, +1!
