@L1NX good point, but do you feel that it would be worth me running Arena at all? I've been on the fence about useing it for awhile now.

ArchFline I think it would be worth running it as when you have extremely high devotion 3 mana is nothing thanks to Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx and them having to sacrifice multiple permanents every turn is pretty game ending. You could test out the deck with and without it on untap.in and see how it goes.

I have the cards so I'll see about testing it IRL.

Wow can you guys believe how expensive Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth has become? XD I'm glad I picked up a play set when it was like $8 each.

i think its because of the new mono-black eldrazi deck. it made Relic of Progenitus spike as well as Inquisition of Kozilek.

Is there any particular reason that you're only running 3 Phyrexian Obliterator? It seems like the best card in the deck by miles, so idk why not just add a fourth. I would remove the combo because if you cast 2 six drops, you're probably going to win no matter what they are. Just casting one Grave Titan, for example, is probably enough to win.

Mana is not indicative of a win as you can have grave Titan versus a control or pillow fort and you'll find that you have no chance of victory. By that logic you always need an alternative win condition.

Additionally I do not run 4 obliterators as their primary function in this deck is to offer defense and devotion as well as to soak up removal. That give my 4 non black producing lands I often find that in turn 4 I usually don't have the 4 black mana to drop the obliterator so running only 3 helps to reduce my chance of haveing early dead weight.

With your high number of creatures I'd consider running either Tragic Slip or Dead Weight instead of Devour in Shadow. Weight will help your devotion and is fast, tragic slip obviously fast and hard hitting. With 22 lands drop a wurm and add an obliterator- far more powerful. Also, speedwise I prefer Sign in Blood to phyrexian arena. Arena is better for devotion though.

@Its_Johnny_Bravo Thank you for the comments, I personally find that I require Phyrexian Arena's devotion for my early game ramp so it's a must for the deck. As for Tragic Slip I would like to make the addition, but for slip to be effective I must first use another spell to destroy a creature which defeats the purpose of Devour in Shadow which exists in my main board to protect myself during the first 2-3 turns, Dead Weight fills a similar role but easily becomes defeated to Spellskite (which would still live the encounter) and lacks mid to late game viability. As for the Massacre Wurm I utilize his secondary and tertiary ability more than his presence as a beefy fighter. I do not require 4Phyrexian Obliterators as my deck does not attempt to win though beat down but through field control, defensive play, and indirect damage.

Obliterator is great with Deadly Allure, maybe a fair replacement for devour considering your creatures

As a clutch I throw enemy creatures into obliterator with Arena.

Great deck, Archfline. I would just throw in another Obliterator. Besides that this deck looks like a killer.

I actually haven't updated this deck in a while but I did awhile back do so for my paper version that I took to some competitions... Sadly I won most games but got stomped on by the now banned Eldrazi menace.

Been out the game for a while like 5 years. Last decks I used were Seismic Swans and Dark Elves. The Eldrazi decks look gruesome. I have yet to face one.

After the ban on Eye of Ugin and the announcement that modern will no longer be present at the pro tour you really won't be seeing it or iterations of it around all that much.

Geralf's Messenger is all-around amazing in mono-black, providing damage, a sweet body, and three devotion.

You need a sacrifice outlet in order to go infinite with triskelion. I do not see one?

ArchFline says... #22

@Sedins2233 I believe you have overlooked how the two cards fundamentally function your best bet would be to look up the combo in Google.

@Turn8ScornfulEgotist I love the card but because it enters tapped is the reason why I do not run him. It's simply to slow which is a real shame.

June 1, 2016 10:50 p.m.

I wanted to suggest finding a way to put in murderous redcap in place of triskellion but the only creature I can think to say you should drop is ruthless ripper and having a sac outlet like nantuko husk(there is a 1 drop but the name escapes me). If you can find a way get it in there though it goes infinite the same turn you play mikeaus as opposed to having to get triskelion out as well. Looks like a fun deck though, if you could get gravepact in there somehow you could board wipe pretty quickly as well.

ArchFline says... #24

I don't really se a reason to run redcap as I can often devotion fuel out both on turn 6. However I rarely intend o do so as the combo is nearly a late game solution incase of a dragging game.

June 2, 2016 9:53 a.m.

I would also love to see a two-drop, like Bloodghast or Nantuko Shade. It would strengthen your board state and let you play the tapped Geralf's Messenger. Also, Viscera Seer and other sacrifice outlets don't really do anything special with Triskelion.
