Sphere of Resistance seems like it's worth a shot since you've got really low casting costs. That said, might want to be a SB card. Am I missing any other interactions aside from slowing the game down?

Cool deck, +1.

Sweet deck! Looks like so much fun. 4x Sinkhole 4x Smallpox 4x Wasteland all that's missing is modern sinkhole Rain of Tears

Thanks for the +1, guys! No, it's just a slow-down; essentially the land-destruction on a Smallpox which applies once for each spell you want to cast throughout any following turn turn (which also attacks fast mana such at Lotus Petal or Simian Spirit Guide ). Since I'm the one with the Crucible of Worlds and Sinkhole's, this favours me.

Yeah, or instead of Rain of Tears, Vindicate ;-D That would mess up my curve a lot though. I really like the low curve in this one, since I'm not running Dark Ritual.

I'd like to try a permanent that lets me draw 1 additional card a round if I please. This is to draw a card if I Top and dredge Dakmor Salvage to mill the two worst cards in the top three. I'd like to draw without shipping Top on top. Bottled Cloister like Reid Duke used recently could work, while exiling my hand takes away some of the flexibility of Cursed Scroll. Phyrexian Arena makes me worry about life loss. I might try Underworld Connections as a 1-of once I get a chance to test this.

Arena works well, bob doesnt work so well with Pox.

In my main pox deck I use Sign in Blood

Booty arena or blood is ur best bet

Didn't know about Dark Tutelage! I think the average life-loss would be worse than arena, though. I'll just throw in a 1-of arena or cloister next time I get a chance to playtest.

For sure! I didn't know about Arena! Definitely go with that.

Chains of Mephistopheles to punish the blue mages.

Whoa, that's expensive.

January 7, 2014 4:15 p.m.

Well, I figured since you're running playsets of Sinkhole and Wasteland , I'd toss it out there. Chains is pretty expensive. Rates up there with The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale . Great cards if you have sponsors or a whole bunch of dough lol.

It's all good! I just searched it up randomly. I didn't know how expensive those cards are!

But for sure, they are pretty sweet indeed.

I'd certainly like to play Chains, aeonstoremyliver. I'll see in the coming months where I end up taking my collection. I suspect I might lean along black aggro in the direction of BUG or Jund. I don't have a sponsor, far from it :-)

January 10, 2014 7:25 a.m.

Yeah, I don't have a Tabernacle, Karakas , or Candelabra of Tawnos . Those are high on my wants list. Champagne taste on a beer budget lol.

Hehe, yeah! I do have The Abyss and Nether Void now, though. I think this deck is shaping up for real. Not sure what to think about the Infernal Tutor, though. It's cute as a fifth Sinkhole, but it's also a little slow behind Top-ing and other stuff.

This looks pretty good. however it seems you don't have that many cards that will win you the game (i count 8). Don't you often find yourself without threats able to pressure your opponent? i might be playing pox wrong so i'm asking not making critique.

what are your thoughts on your sideboard? it seems like a lot of silver bullets to me, isn't it hard to draw the right answers when it is so scattered? (never played in a tourney so enlighten me if you please :) )

I'm tinkering with my own pox build Poxy Rack if you have some thoughts it would be much appreciated.

The lock in this deck is so strong that I think 8 win conditions is right about where I want to be. In some sense my "real" win condition is Liliana of the Veil on hellbent anyway. 8 threats means I typically start with one in the in my opening hand, and that I'll draw into a new one sooner rather than later. In conjunction with Top, finding a kill condition is not really an issue. The clock is certainly slow, but since the threats are so resilient I can quite consistently establish 4 damage a turn which is plenty behind all the disruption. With Nether Spirit I also have a recurrent blocker, which buys even more time.

As for the sideboard, it certainly looks like a mess and I'm not sure it's where I really want to be. A lot of the cards are pretty flexible though, so I usually have enough cards to board in for any matchup. It's probably also possible to make a case for the singleton Infernal Tutor allowing me to bring more of a 'utility' sideboard.

Yes I guess you're right about Liliana being a win condition by herself. I'm guessing those Cursed Scroll are usually an all star with her..

I will be following this thread if you care to update after playing your next tourney.

btw. when would you side in Night of Souls' Betrayal ? Death and taxes?

edahl says... #19

Yeah, Cursed Scroll is a beast. I've considered playing 3 copies, but in addition to not knowing what to cut I don't really want to draw multiples.

Then I'll be sure to update :-)

Yeah, typically, but since I'm not running it main board at this time, it should probably just be another engineered plague.

I've cleaned up the board a bit.

I like what you did with the SB.

When would you side in Spinning Darkness ? Against Tarmogoyf ?

Is there any permanents in particular you want to rid your self of? Have you thought of splashing white for Vindicate ?

Also have you played against sneak & show yet and how did that go?

February 6, 2014 12:21 p.m.

edahl says... #22

Spinning Darkness comes in whenever there's a race, like against burn or delver. It provides another way to deal with their (non-black) creatures, and three 3 life comes in handy as well.

I actually considered suggesting a white splash for your deck! But any splash is a considerable investment. I think that if I'm to splash a colour, it's going to be green for Loam and Abrupt Decay.

Recently, there has been some lists using Pack Rat over some Cursed Scrolls, and with Tombstalker main deck. These are ideas I'd like to try out (I like Tombstalker a lot.)

Yes dual and fethes cost way too much...

Never thought about Pack Rat as a legacy card :) but when i look at it i can see some synergy.. I like that it helps Tombstalker and has good synergy with lilianas +1. Also it doesn't depend on the GY being active (like Nether Spirit and Bloodghast ). But three mana seems like a lot and you need to keep them open at all times to be sure it survives spot removal.. That makes Dark Ritual better in the late game i guess.

I think i like cursed scroll better for this type of deck.

I made a similar build to buy one day after I'm done building my modern deck.

I came to the same conclusions as u aftter modelling it after the recent "stock" pox decks. 1x Nether Void is just not enough. U can lock things down early game and a Dark Ritual into Nether Void creates such a seals the deal.

I see u went with Toxic Deluge . I want Damnation but decided to go with Do or Die for now.

I also replaced Nether Spirit with Bitterblossom . ...this may revert back.
