Yes I know what you're thinking right now. It does look like the stupidest deck you've ever seen, but just hear me out.
The first time I saw
Kaho, Minamo Historian
I knew there had to be some way to break this card just like every other Legendary Creature that is also a tutor on a stick (I mean look at
Zur the Enchanter
). So the next thing I looked for was a card like
Doomsday
(mass deck thinning), another similarity to one of the most competitive EDH decks out there (Zur Doomsday), which also uses
Laboratory Maniac
as a wincon. And guess what I found it:
Mana Severance
. BTW, is it just me or am I realizing a ton a similarities between his deck and the Zur Doomsday decklist.
So first off this deck has a 100% chance to win on turn 6 if not disrupted. The best thing about this deck (other than the price) is that no matter what your opening hand is you will have the same chances of winning the game every time, you will LITERALLY never have to mulligan. Also when you play test this deck it feels very similar to the Zur Doomsday build (I guess that's another thing these decks have in similar).
THE SET OF CARDS TO FIND WITH
Kaho, Minamo Historian
...
Mystical Tutor
and
Tolarian Winds
.
THE WAY THE DECK SHOULD BE PLAYED:
Turn 1)
Island
pass
Turn 2)
Island
pass
Turn 3)
Island
pass
Turn 4)
Island
, cast
Kaho, Minamo Historian
, use
Kaho, Minamo Historian
's ETB ability to tutor up
Mystical Tutor
and
Tolarian Winds
Turn 5) during you upkeep use
Kaho, Minamo Historian
's activated ability to cast
Mystical Tutor
to tutor up
Mana Severance
, which will be drawn for turn and then cast during your first main phase. Use
Mana Severance
to exile every land in your deck until the only cards left in your library are
Flash
,
Foil
,
Laboratory Maniac
,
Thwart
,
Pact of Negation
, and one
Island
.
Turn 6) during your upkeep use
Kaho, Minamo Historian
's activated ability to cast
Tolarian Winds
(drawing you
Flash
,
Foil
,
Laboratory Maniac
,
Thwart
,
Pact of Negation
, and one
Island
). Cast
Flash
to put
Laboratory Maniac
on the battlefield (which you will have tap your last
Island
for when it ETB's). Continue to your draw step... YOU WIN!!!
BTW, if an opponent tries to mess you up up with spot removal or counter spells make sure to play your counter spells in this order:
A)
Thwart
... bouncing three of your tapped
Island
s to your hand
B)
Foil
... discarding two of the three
Island
s you just bounced to your hand
C)
Pact of Negation
... it's free and if you win on your draw step who cares about the downside, lol
Hope you like the deck. I know it looks a bit crazy, but I think this might actually be the start to a new competitive deck in the cEDH community. Right now I'm trying to speed up this deck by a turn seeing if I can find a combination of cards that allows for consistent turn 5 wins (my first thoughts for this are something related to
Bazaar of Baghdad
).
LAST, BUT NOT LEAST IF YOU LIKE THE DECK OR THINK YOU KNOW ANYWAY TO SPEED THE DECK'S GAME PLAN UP I WOULD TRULY APPRECIATE IT IF YOU GAVE IT AN UPVOTE AND LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK OF IT BELOW IN THE COMMENTS.
