Mono-Colored Beginner Decks

Casual

Scarecrow1779

These are made to be intro decks to help teach newcomers the game. They're relatively balanced against each other, although there are good and bad match ups here and there. I've stuck to using commons and used multiple copies of each card in an effort not to overwhelm the new player with having to learn too many cards or complex abilities while they're also getting used to combat and turn structure.

While trying to keep them simple, I still want the decks to give the new player the feeling of doing something powerful with each color. With white, they get to pile on auras to quickly create aggressive, powerful threats. With blue, they get to outdraw their opponent constantly throughout the game. With black, they get to experience the power of zombie tribal synergies as they sacrifice and resurrect an undead horde to abuse EtB and death triggered abilities. With red they get to rush their opponents with early tokens and finish them off with powerful burn spells. With green, they get to drop a 6/6 trample on turn 4. Every color also has its own must-answer creatures, including Tethmos High Priest, Jhessian Thief, Carrion Feeder, Hissing Iguanar, and Colossal Dreadmaw.

Right now the decks feel relatively balanced overall, but I'm always looking to improve them. If you play any games with them, let me know what you're results are. I've got a running tally for my own games of how each one does against each other, and I'll add your results to the count.

Blue has felt like the hardest to balance. I have changed around which counterspell and which bounce spell are in the deck several times. Each time, the deck has either not changed its win percentage hardly at all or it has totally flipped from under- to overpowered, or vice versa. I think it might be better if blue is a just a hair overpowered in the hands of an experienced player because I think it might be the most difficult for new players to understand and play well.
