I like the Pithing Needle just for the sole purpose of stopping Pack Rat . That gave me a laugh. I like the deck, just idk if all the ramping is really that necessary. I think you may find yourself at times with more mana than you know what to do with. Maybe cut out a couple of the ramps for possibly an Arbor Colossus or Nylea, God of the Hunt ? +1 from me

Playtesting simply hasn't borne that out. CMC is slightly over 3. For as fast as this deck accelerates that isn't even remotely high. Getting to the heavy hitters in this deck can be pretty fast. So unless further playtesting bears that out, I'll have to pass on that suggestion.
March 27, 2014 12:48 p.m.
That is true. The next phase of testing is will involve a little less ramp and substituting Nylea, God of the Hunt . That will probably be next week. Thx for the suggestion and the +1.

No problem. the reason i suggested Arbor Colossus as well is because he adds 3 devotion, which in turn, helps you ramp still. You have Karametra's Acolyte + Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx so Arbor only helps those out. He also provides more blow up against fliers and is already a big hitter for 5. Could possibly help clean out some of your sideboard that is just specifically for defending against fliers. I'd actually switch him for the Sylvan Primordial s and then when you do put Nylea in, you have extra devotion even. See how it works

add Burning-Tree Emissary for some ultra fast devotion or you know for the free creature :D
March 27, 2014 1:22 p.m.
oh i forgot, maybe add Alpha Authority because you wouldnt want somebody doom blading your hydras or exiling them or blocking with more than one creature or anything really, and sideboard the raports, if you are quick enough you dont need lifegain in this

I came across a black destro deck last night that made my head explode. I'm going to the shop tonight to pick up a playset of Alpha Authority . Good call. If there is a way you can edit your comment and make that card a suggestion, go for it so I can accept it.
Seriously...
head...exploded...it was messy.

oracletext I took your advice. I removed the 4x Verdant Haven s and put in 3x Nylea, God of the Hunt and 1 more Bow of Nylea . It accelerates just fine and hits pretty hard now with that trample out. Good call.

I feel like your lack of a 3-drop creature could easily be mitigated by Courser of Kruphix . Relevant body, lifegain, and an easier way to play lands. Sounds pretty nice.
Karametra's Acolyte is a bit of a win-more card. I'd drop since you really want to run relevant 4 drops. You may want to consider Voyaging Satyr to untap nykthos. If you have the cash, Garruk, Caller of Beasts is a fantastic card.

TheDevicer I just won an auction for 4x Garruk, Caller of Beasts . That is going to work it's way into the deck. I'll experiment a bit with the Voyaging Satyr s.

I agree on Voyaging Satyr . You can't beat the mana he produces when untapping a Nykthos. And with him around you definitely wouldn't need the acolyte.
Running the Courser of Kruphix also has a nice interaction with Garruk, Caller of Beasts since you will be turning up less lands.
Also Mistcutter Hydra is great but also sorta situational I would only run a couple and leave the extra in the sideboard
So I would: -4 Karametra's Acolyte , +4 Voyaging Satyr , -3 Predator's Rapport , +3 Courser of Kruphix and -2 Mistcutter Hydra , +2 Garruk, Caller of Beasts
April 1, 2014 5:56 p.m.
Pretty much that, really. I'd also drop the Nykthos count to 3. With 4, you're bound to draw into multiples.
April 1, 2014 6:03 p.m.
3 might be a solid number but I think you can easily get away with 4. There is nothing wrong with multiples when you can activate one, then play a second as your land for the turn and use mana from the first nykthos to activate the second and get extra ramp. Perfect for your mistcutters and Polukranos. Can also be used in a pinch to ramp to your primordials as well. In most cases you don't really want to have nykthos's clogging your hand, but in monogreen deck there is so much to do with the ramp that it can get away with it and pull of some crazy things.

A great green ramper is Gyre Sage .
Dunno about the problem with removal, but for the luls, you could try Archetype of Endurance
or even Worldspine Wurm
April 1, 2014 8:46 p.m.
The problem with Archetype of Endurance is the cost. If I run into an effective control/destroy deck that can curtail my ramp, I can't get to 8 to get it out. That's why I put in the low cost SB hexproofs. Worldspine Wurm is an interesting thought though.

Have you thought about adding Arbor Colossus ? I've always found him to be useful he is a 5 drop but with the Elvish Mystic 's and Sylvan Caryatid 's you have in your deck you could get him out pretty quick, or you can use Garruk, Caller of Beasts to get him for free. Plus he has reach so he can block heavy hitting flyers like Stormbreath Dragon or Desecration Demon His Monstrosity ability is fantastic giving him +3/3 and lets you destroy target flying creature. He's also fun to combo with Sylvan Primordial and the best part is that right now he's really cheap.

Picked two Arbor Colossus up in a trade last night. I'll work them in this weekend.

looks good man. +1 from me. one suggestion is to take out one Bow of Nylea . Two should be sufficient in a deck like this, because if you draw one while you already have one the field its kind of a dead draw.

I have a deck kinda similar to this with using lots of ramp but I didn't go mono-green for fear of board wipes. Check it out here --> Stilts to Kilts
One card that I loved having in that deck is Colossus of Akros because it's very possible to get him in the game with so much ramp and then to Monstrous him the next turn. If he's attacking with a Kalonian Hydra he is attacking as a 30/30 with Indestructible and Trample. I also added in black for regen through Golgari Charm and so I could sac my creatures with Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord and take you down 30 life with 3 mana.
Also I'll second Arbor Colossus because with this ramp you can have him out turn 3 no problem and that 3 green in his mana cost is fantastic for Karametra's Acolyte and Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx
Great build though! Have you seen any Journey into Nyx hydras yet?
April 12, 2014 11:14 p.m.
Zicca21 Yup, that hydra will find it's way into this deck as soon as I can get my hands on them.
Picked up a set of Colossus of Akros
Thanks for the feedback. Check back often for changes.

This deck looks like a lot of fun. Savage Summoning is a great sideboard card for control. Is there a reason (besides hexproof) you run the caryatid instead of Voyaging Satyr ? The satyr make those Nykthos absolutely crazy.
April 27, 2014 12:47 a.m.
Savage Summoning is a great idea. I think I will throw that in. Thx
