Edit: I'm an idiot who should read Neheb's rules-text more closely... Nevermind, there's no lemonade to be found here.
Basic idea: Filter through your deck as quickly as possible, keeping you hand as full as possible. Combo Neheb with Gravitic Punch for the win?
I've had the misfortune of pulling a full playset of Neheb, Dreadhorde Champions from my WAR packs. When life gives you lemons, it's time to start brewing some build-around jank. In playtesting, I've been able to get to fairly consistent turn 5-6 one-shots (without any opponent interaction of course). I know this deck is janky as hell and won't ever be mildly competitive, but are there any additional cards I've missed in standard that will filter through my deck faster or keep Neheb alive long enough to go off? I plan to build a more defensive Izzet version as well with the Jump-start card draw that may have more than one chance of going off if they wisely decide to remove Neheb before the combo starts. Alternatively, I've thought about taking this the Izzet Drakes direction as a backup win-con, but I have a feeling that splitting focus will hamstring the already limited chance this deck has of comboing off.
To spell out the combo a bit more clearly:
-
Get damage through with Neheb (hopefully combat damage for the first trigger) on turn five
-
discard all cards in hand to the trigger except for any Gravitic Punches found
-
Cast Gravitic Punch using the generated mana, triggering Neheb again
-
Repeat step 2 with one less card, hopefully having found another Gravitic punch (if not, jump-start the first)
-
Continue loop till either they're dead, or you run out of gas.
It is critical to play as few non-cantrip cards from hand (maybe only a Bookcase T2/3 to enable T5 unblockable and survive aggro) in the buildup to Turn 5/6. Unfortunately, this deck is significantly worse on the go than on the draw; having the extra card on T1 is a huge resource for the eventual Neheb trigger. Turns 1-3 you will be attempting to get off as many Tormenting Voices and Honor the God Pharaohs as possible to find your pieces and drop Neheb T4 (or T5 with first strike & haste from Fervent Strike). As a huge downside to this combo deck, Mulliganing to find your pieces in the opening hand is not a good idea.
Any ideas to help me better live out this jank dream?
