You should probably run more roasts, they are pretty important in dealing with a lot of the problem creatures in the format.

Hows it going man (: I've been playing mono red, and have top 4'd the past 2 weeks at FNM. Your deck list is very similar to mine, but ill kind of fill you in on a couple of things I've found with the deck lately, and kind of fill you in on movements I would make!

  1. Mardu Scout for me is a recast-able lightning strike in the early game. A lot of people don't like using him, but for me he absolutely smashes decks like UB control. I run 4 main board to pretty good success.

2.Hordeling Outburst I've found that it's actually a pretty slow card, and I tend to side board them out alot. Theyre still very good, but I would reccomend side boarding 1 or 2 in order to speed up your game 1.

  1. Goblin Heelcutter Love this card, but against control its a 1 more mana cost Mardu Scout, I reccomend running 1 main board instead of 2.

  2. Hall of Triumph Went clutch for me one time, but there have been times where I needed a creature on the board and would instead pull this card, slowing me down a bit. I run 2 in the sideboard rather than main deck.

As for the list, I can agree with most of what youre doing! My personal changes to the main board would be this, with all removed cards being moved to side board.

In: 4 Mardu Scout Out: 1 Goblin Heelcutter , 1 Hordeling Outburst , 2 Hall of Triumph

This should speed you up a bit, while leaving your game 2 extremely adaptable (:

Lightning Berserker + Break Through the Line is pretty powerful VS control.

I would cut the mainboard Eidolon of the Great Revel as it hurts you more than it helps you. I also find the Goblin Heelcutter to be very slow in the deck. I run RDW every now and then at FNM I sideboard in Eidolon of the Great Revel against RDW and Jeskai Tokens. I would definitely suggest Akroan Crusader as he helps make dudes. I would also suggest mainboarding 4 Hammerhand as well as 4 Dragon Mantle. They help get your prowess triggers off of your Monastery Swiftspear as well as your Akroan Crusader. Another thing That I believe would be helpful is having 2 or 3 Volcanic Eruption in your sideboard for mirror matches. I would also make a playset of Zurgo Bellstriker and Lightning Berserker. It's fun deck to play and you can kill your opponent so quickly it's tough to stop. Hope my suggestions helped!

I have played this deck multiple times, and surprisingly, the Eidolon of the Great Revel is more helpful then it is hurtful. I play it after I get board, so my opponent is reluctant to play anything, and even if they remove it. Then my Eidolon was a burn spell.

Akroan Crusader Hammerhand Dragon Mantle, I used to run, but they are really weak if you don't have many dudes. I find them often a dead card in hand. That is why I switched those cards out for cards like Wild Slash and Stoke the Flames

As for running a playset of Lightning Berserker and Zurgo Bellstriker, I run 2 of each because, Zurgo Bellstriker is a dead card if you draw more than one. Same thing for Lightning Berserker, it may be a good card on its own. But if I draw more than one I always feel, like I could have drawn something better If I ran less of that card.

Thanks for the suggestions nonetheless!

I've been playing mono-red a lot recently myself, and I'm going to run it next weekend at my local PPTQ. One card that I've found to be very strong that you don't have is Dragon Fodder, and I would highly recommend running it. I've also found Hall of Triumph good, especially in the mirror. Here's a link to my list if you want to see what I'm running.

I used to run Dragon Fodder, it is very strong. But I had to make a decision of Dragon Fodder versus Mardu Scout, and based on results I went top 8 with Mardu Scout. and I went 2/3 when I played Dragon Fodder.

Hall of Triumph is very strong, but I only like running it if I have Hordeling Outburst AND Dragon Fodder

May 17, 2015 10:58 p.m.

I'll agree with your assessment of Hall of Triumph. You do need both Hordeling Outburst and Dragon Fodder for it to be good.

As for Mardu Scout vs. Dragon Fodder, that will depend in part on your local meta, but what about both? Excluding burn spells (which you usuall won't be casting on turn two anyway), you only have 4 two-drops, compared to 9 three-drops. You could consider replacing a couple of Hordeling Outbursts with Dragon Fodders. Just a thought.

thats not a bad idea! I will probably do that after next weeks FNM, I wanna see how this list performs.

Impact Tremors needs a home here

May 25, 2015 8:45 p.m.

I really want to like Impact Tremors, I really do. But is just not strong enough. If I wanted a big impact like that from my tokens, I would probably run Purphoros, God of the Forge. I wish there was room, but there really isn't.

Cause it used to be budget.

This not a good deck for Atarka's Command. I'd drop the commands for another Searing Blood and some Magmatic Insight.

July 25, 2015 11:14 p.m.

I agree with your assessment of Atarka's Command, but its my only way to deal with Siege Rhinos.

July 25, 2015 11:49 p.m.

Nixin72 says... #19

With 8 mainboard spells that deal 4 damage and the inclusion of Chandra, I've found rhino to be a much smaller threat than they used to be. Game 2, side in the rest of your Roasts and you're safe. I've found rhino to be a lot less intimidating now that we have Exquisite Firecraft. Unless your meta just has a crap ton of abzan.

I believe Atarka command is very useful.. most people who play green use 4 feed the clan in their decks..I lost my FNM match because the person cast 2 Feed the clan on me and I just cant keep up after that.

Mono-color decks can afford to use non-basic lands Temple of Abandon is an OK start, but if you want your unblocked Lightning Berserker to breath fire like a dragon you need 2x Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx. Actually 21 lands is a bit heavy for a deck that runs this lean on CMC.

You might want to use 1 or 2 Zurgo Bellstriker rather than 3 legendary cards that you can never use more than 1 of at a time.

He could throw in the red fetches to thin the deck better than 1 scry land

August 11, 2015 3:24 p.m.

Nixin72 says... #24

With neither black nor green, why would fetches change anything? Statistically, the deck thinning doesn't affect your likely hood until t20 roughly.

August 11, 2015 8:06 p.m.

I've been playing mono-red off and on for a while, and I agree with Nixin72. Do not add the fetch lands, they really don't help you. I would also remove the Temple of Abandon, because your primary strength is having an aggressive start, and the temple will slow you down. I also prefer having only 20 lands in the main deck, with the 21st in the sideboard (the 21st is necessary when you board in Chandra, Pyromaster).
