Sideboard

Hi everyone, welcome in.

With all my friends transitioning to Pioneer, one going to Sidisi Whip, another Greasefang, and one even proxying out Helix, I wanted to join them but didn't want to commit to expensive decks. So, I began hunting on mtgtop8 for standard decks, old pioneer decks, and random decks until I found Tom Ross the Boss 2014 Standard deck.

One thing I've loved about deck like these is the pure aggressive nature. I wanted to rebuild and update it after I watched Rhystic Studies video on RDW and heard Cedric say "The sock full of pennies beatdown".

This has also taken inspiration from the old Standard Beast known as Ramunap Red which I initially tried to build up, but the deck was much too slow and weak. However, I took inspiration and added a lot of cards to the Sideboard to help transition to a more slow/midrange deck

4 Legion Loyalist
My favorite 1 drop in the deck. Immediately can turn sideways, reward you for having a large board, grant evasion, and often soak the removal

4 Falkenrath Gorger
The newest creature with a 2/1 statline. He is basically a vanilla creature, but in here to keep the curve on track

4 Firedrinker Satyr
High risk high reward. It feels amazing to go in unblocked, pump, and then self pump for a ton, but also feels super bad when you just eat 5 from a Lovestruck Beast. One of the few mana sink creatures I have

4 Grim Initiate
I have been loving this card in testing. He brings a nice replacement effect in case he dies to keep my board in tact, bolsters other armies I have out, and brings first strike to the table for nice combat tricks.

4 Rakdos Cackler
1 mana 2/2 is a great stat line. Sure he can't block, but what's blocking

4 Ash Zealot
Fantastic card. Paired with a T1 2/1 and swings for 4 is amazing. Plus, any buffs allow a clean removal in combat. Even taking down a Questing Beast.

4 Dragon Mantle
1 mana draw a card, cheap +1/+0 pump effect. What isn't too like. Love pairing it with Ash Zealot

4 Titan's Strength
Very cheap yet very efficient. Alongside Play with Fire also helps filter my top deck to keep the gas flowing and pairs cleanly with Dragon Mantle

3 Rubblebelt Maaka
A technical 4 Drop creature, however if you ever have to cast it you're probably dead. It's a very nice Giant Growth that can't be countered which is huge.

2 Play with Fire
An overall improved Shock that helps the deck seal games or filter the top of the library

4 Madcap Skills
Cheap, powerful, and grants Menace

2 Bonecrusher Giant
While technically a "3" mana creature, playing this on 2 to shock something always feels good. Also gives the deck another mana sink

10 Mountain
Painless.

3 Ramunap Ruins
While the 1 life is awful if it's your starting land, the amount of games this card can steal is unprecedented. 5 mana to deal 2 is slow, it is very valuable

3 Den of the Bugbear
Mountain 11-14 if played before T3. If not, the etb tapped is annoying, but that 3/2 body alongside the 1/1 is so powerful. Triggers my Legion Loyalist, more bodies for pump spells, and again another mana sink

1 Sokenzan, Crucible of Defiance
4 mana make 2 free attackers, and in a pinch blockers.

2 Abrade
Removes Whip of Erebos, Esika's Chariot, and any other stray artifact. Also deals 3 damage.

2 Chandra, Torch of Defiance
Boarding these in G2 allows for a more gas income. She does everything my deck wants.

2 Glorybringer
One of my favorite cards in magic. Immediately swings sideways, blows something up, and is a great top deck

2 Hazoret the Fervent
I loved this card in standard. My friends have coined it as the "bus" and constantly demands a blocker. Also allows me ditch any card I want to shock my opponents

2 Sand Strangler
I was initially against this card, but I think of it as a weaker Glorybringer. I've changed my mind lately as it's a great creature removal card

2 Mountain
To play any of the cards above, I need to include these to increase my mana

2 Sunscorched Desert
Helps ping my opponent, fuels Sand Strangler and more fuel for Ramunap Ruins

1 Ramunap Ruins
Rounds out my playset.

And that is it folks. Something I've enjoyed building and excited to bring to my local game stores pioneer nights with my friends!
