Mono Red Dragons EDH (Lathliss, Dragon Queen)

Commander / EDH Mono-Red

Maybeboard

This is a more casual EDH deck. This deck is not consistently fast, but sometimes it can really come out swingin.

How Do You Win?

With this deck you will win through combat damage with your Beefy Dragons. You want to get out as many Big Bodies as possible. Your goal is to get Lathliss, Dragon Queen out as fast as possible, and then start casting dragons so Lathliss can start pooping out 5/5 Dragon Tokens.

Cards that give Double Damage / Double Strike are: Terror of Mount Velus, Blast-Furnace Hellkite, Berserkers' Onslaught, and Gratuitous Violence.

Cards that allow you to abuse Lathliss, Dragon Queen's ability include: Archwing Dragon, Roaming Throne, and Ilharg, the Raze-Boar.

Noncombat damage is another way to really chip away at you opponents life. This is accomplished through pieces like: Scourge of Valkas, Terror of the Peaks, and Dragon Tempest. The first two go crazy with Roaming Throne.

Hellkite Tyrant is an alternate Win Con if you control 20 or more artifacts at your upkeep. This is possible by hitting an opponent with an egregious amount of artifacts and stealing them or by generating treasure tokens of your own. Cards like Ancient Copper Dragon, Cavern-Hoard Dragon and Treasure Vault can help you get there. I find this Win Con to be very on flavor with Dragons.

Infinite Combo:

There is one infinite combo in the deck. It requires that you have 5 lands (Or less than 5 lands as long as they can produce 5 mana) and your Flying Dragons need to be able to get through to your opponents.

Sword of Feast and Famine + Aggravated Assault = Infinite Combats

Ramp:

Mana Rocks: Sol Ring, Arcane Signet, Ruby Medallion, and Throne of Eldraine

Mana Doublers: Extraplanar Lens, Gauntlet of Might, and Gauntlet of Power

Cards that make your Dragons cheaper are: Dragonlord's Servant, Dragonspeaker Shaman, Sarkhan, Fireblood, Urza's Incubator, and Quicksilver Amulet

Cards that Ramp your mana: Dockside Extortionist, Solemn Simulacrum, Ancient Copper Dragon, Cavern-Hoard Dragon, and Spiteful Banditry

Rituals: Jeska's Will, Mana Geyser, and Rousing Refrain (Will cast for its suspend cost 99% of the time).

A Neat Interaction:

Braid of Fire comes from a time where mana burn was a thing. Now that mana burn isn't a thing this card is interesting, but it's only playable under some specific circumstances. After 4 or 5 turns the Age Counters on this Enchantment really start to get out of control. Because this card gives you mana only during your upkeep, you need to be able to use this mana before your upkeep phase ends. Achieving this requires that you use that mana with instant speed spells or activated abilities.

Leyline Tyrant makes it so you don't lose this mana as phases end.

Quicksilver Amulet is a way to dump this mana into dropping a creature.

Vedalken Orrery allows you to cast spells as though they had flash.

Treasure Vault can be used as a way to sort of exchange this mana if there's a ton of Age Counters on Braid of Fire and you don't have any of the other pieces listed.

Another thing that makes Braid of Fire useful is "Fire Breathing." The "Fire Breathing" ability is "Pay Red: this creature gets +1/+0 until end of turn" and it's usually only on Dragon Creatures. Moonveil Dragon is the best and most efficient use of this extra mana because it's essentially Fire Breathing for all your creatures. Your commander Lathliss, Dragon Queen also has this ability but for 1 and a Red. Other creatures with "Fire Breathing are Dragon Hatchling, and Scourge of Valkas. Steel Hellkite also has it, but for 2 colorless mana to activate.

Haste:

Giving your Beefy Boys haste really allows you to smack your opponents before they have an untap and draw to try and respond. Pieces that give haste include: Ogre Battledriver, Urabrask the Hidden, Dragon Tempest, and Fervor.

Cards that act as pseudo Haste:

Vedalken Orrery allows you to play your creatures at any time, so you can essentially cast your creatures as the player before you passes the turn. (Assuming your opponents don't swing at you forcing you to play some creatures to block) This is awesome if you can get away with it. Boom! Your creatures played on the turn before yours lose summoning sickness at your upkeep and can attack during your combat phase.

Ilharg, the Raze-Boar cheats out a creature from your hand and it enters tapped and attacking during combat, but it gets returned to hand after combat. It's best to do this with a Dragon Creature while Lathliss, Dragon Queen is on the field to trigger her ability.

Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker creates a token of one of your creatures and it gets haste so the token can attack right away.

It should also be noted that Lightning Greaves and Swiftfoot Boots are powerful pieces of equipment that not only give a creature haste, but it can be used to protect your most important creatures.

Insurance:

The only spell in here that really helps you respond to spells or abilities that target you or one of your key pieces on board is Deflecting Swat.

Removal Spells Include: Vandalblast, Abrade, Cast into the Fire, and Chaos Warp.

Board Wipes Include: Anger of the Gods, Chain Reaction, Blasphemous Act, and Spiteful Banditry.

Pieces to annoy your opponents: Blood Moon, Magus of the Moon, Steel Hellkite, and Balefire Dragon
