-2 Shock I suppose also comes with that, and maybe a plus one mountain to balance it out. I think that's the direction I'm headed. Just have to get my hands on a couple more Magma Jet s. Thanks!

A card I think this deck would cough up like crazy would be something like Legion Loyalist
March 6, 2014 6:25 p.m.
I actually do like Legion Loyalist but I think I'm headed more midrange and the Rakdos Cackler s will be phased out.
March 7, 2014 1 p.m.
I've got some Mizziums, will add them to the sideboard (for now)
March 8, 2014 11:44 a.m.
if you are going to use a playset of Legion Loyalist s make sure you only ever have one out. they work best when used as a sorcery that grants first strike and trample. He probably won't survive past a single turn or two but at least he doesn't hurt you when he dies. unlike Firedrinker Satyr . Plus the loyalist is epic in a midrange setup if you use it as the one mana cost sorcery

I've never really liked Firedrinker Satyr but he works in this set up, Legion Loyalist is a good alternative. I'll be purchasing a playset of them too to playtest, maybe for a direct swap with Firedrinker.

Replace Firedrinker Satyr with Legion Loyalist for better threats without pinging yourself, and put a couple Boros Reckoner into here for more midgame defense and it makes your opponents really think about what to play.

The Legion Loyalist switch is done. I only own half a playset at the moment so that'll be fine for main board. Also, Boros Reckoner I own one of. If I get a playset, what do you recommend I replace?

I'd maybe say the Foundry Street Denizen because even though the deck is full of creatures. And another recommendation I would like to make is Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx because it's a mono color, and you have lots of stuff to increase your devotion.

The only reason I'd be concerned about adding Boros Reckoner is that it changes the whole mana curve. I'll need a couple more Mountains. I think only a couple Nykthos, but I can definitely see how it would be useful. Tapping for 1 mana isn't always useful with this deck.

I play-tested a few times. Between Rakdos Cackler and Foundry Street Denizen , I preferred the cackler. He comes out a 2/2 (if unleashed), and on the 2nd turn I liked playing Legion Loyalist or Ash Zealot . Either way, the cackler remained a 2/2. (Sure, he can't block but that's okay.)
Denizen is best when he comes out immediately because he benefits with every creature that comes out -- one weird hand, 2nd turn, I had 2 mana and had all three Burning Tree Emissaries. They all paid for the next one to come out and I still had two mana to burn. If Denizen had been my first creature, he would have swung for 4. I kept hoping for that type of combo again, but it didn't happen. For me, Denizen needs a few creatures to come out in the same turn so that he gets a good amp up.
I'm running spells that amp up my creatures but no burn cards. I'm not really sure if it's the best thing to do but it seems to work for me.

I've been playtesting using Forge playing against the AI, it's preformed really well, but predictably not as well against control. Denizen helps 4 get through on turn 2 with Ash Zealot as much as Cackler does, do you have a suggested replacement for Denizen?
The original deck had similar amps, Madcap Skills and Titan's Strength , they were good, but the deck needs more creatures and its own removal.

What about Cryptborn Horror ? Or Ember Swallower ? I like this creature.Pyrewild Shaman is a really good card.
I'm sure there are a few more if dig around a little.

I would say to take out the Foundry Street Denizen for Frenzied Goblin. The goblin is better than the Denizen in many regards.

Nykthos Nykthos Nykthos Nykthos, NykthosNyk Nykthos. Nykthos?
August 21, 2014 11:08 p.m.
I actually never bought it cause the price was high, but it's down now, thanks. How many should I run? I'm a bit concerned because the 1 mana tap is sometimes useless.

I myself run three, but that's monogreen where Mana color is no issue. I would say two here. With burning-tree, I so think it is a must. And unless he's out of your budget, this needs Stormbreath who can be a turn three 4/4 in the air that can only be matched by Monogreen's Arbor Colossus and Black's Hero's Downfall that early. If they don't handle that in anything semi-midrangish, it will be a turn 4 win.
August 21, 2014 11:42 p.m.
stormbreath is probably too much mana for this deck, probably because you dont want the game to go on long enough for stormbreath to be able to come out
August 21, 2014 11:46 p.m.
Yup, stormbreath is too high on the curve for this deck. Believe me, I tried to go the midrange mono red devotion and I wasn't a fan. He's good, just doesn't work in the shell. I'll pick up two Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx . Ideally this deck would also run Mutavault s.

He works with Nykthos, I am positive. With the billion double red symbols, I promise you he'll be effective here as a near always turn 3 or 4. Maybe you don't monstrous him, but he is so effective against control, white weenies, Boros burn, and selesnya aggro, some of the biggest decks in the meta.

Have you thought of maxing out your burns?
4x Magma Jet and 4xLightning Strike ? Maybe make due w/o the Mizzium Mortars
Also 19 mana seems fine to me.
Cheers
