Try Fabricate fetches any Artifact, same cost as Treasure Mage and interacts with Snapcaster Mage

@tyforthevenom - The main reason I don't run Fabricate is because it doesn't double as a body, and that is very relevant quite often. Also, I don't run Batterskull, which is the main reason to go the Fabricate route over Treasure Mage. I've play tested fairly heavily with Fabricate and I've had a lot more luck with Treasure Mage, and there isn't really anything else that I'd be able to take out for it.

How's Ugin been for you? I don't like the concept because he isn't fetchable, but is the utility worth the slot?
February 9, 2015 3:44 p.m.
@ThatJunkMage - it serves as Oblivion Stone #2 primarly, except it doesn't effect my permanents due to them all being artifacts with 1 exception. Any time it hits the board, its relevant and can be a win-con alone. Which is great for the Mindslaver combo, which requires at least some sort of win-con be on the field to be effective. I don't think it deserves more than 1 spot, but I have had a lot of success with him so far. Also, throwing him down on turn 3 is just nuts (if you can get a Talisman on t2).

You are wrong, the main reason for Fabricate is consistency, Treasure Mage is a body but you can't turn it into tron land number 3, my suggestion is you so a 3/3 split on them

And slaver lock effectively mills them coz you stop drawing cards while you force them to draw until they die you don't need anything else on the board
February 9, 2015 3:53 p.m.
@tyforthevenom - 6 fetch spells is way too many for U-Tron. I currently run 2 fetch spells and have no problems with consistency. I leave those extra 4 spots for control. This deck is about controlling the board until you reach a win-con. It doesn't matter how fast I get that win-con because of the inherent consistency and built-in card advantage of the card choices in the deck.

The reason I say 3/3 is coz my experience left me not needing draw spells between fetches and counter spells I also ran 4 simulacrum and only 3 copies of condescend, your pact is redundant by the time you can cast it without killing yourself you should have established a lock from Spell Burst dismember only fits u tron in the following 2 situations: you're losing and desperate to buy yourself a turn buying yourself 1 life effectively or you're ahead and being a typical control player given excessive power, either way you'd be better served with more ways to bounce their threats or fetch your own they are redundant for your deck
February 9, 2015 4:55 p.m.
@tyforthevenom - Well I suppose that is exactly why there is not just a single Mono-U Tron build. Players play differently and enjoy different play styles. I don't want my hand clogged with 2-3 fetch spells when all it takes is 1 win-con to win the game. I want a hand full on control and a way to get a single win-con into play. That's where U-Tron is strongest and that's the style that I enjoy playing most. U-Tron is not supposed to win by turn 5-6. It's meant to draw the game out and keep the field empty until your opponent runs out of steam. At the same time, you've been drawing and scrying so you're still in good shape until you can draw into a win-con. Again, to each his own.

As someone who plays a more aggressive version of the deck, I peraonally love having access to the tutors. But you're definitely right, the deck can be built in different fashions to suit different play styles. I don't think that ugin is right for me based on the fact that I run three thirsts and a foresee as my only draw.

Mind filling me in on why you are running Oboro, Palace in the Clouds and Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth?
April 2, 2015 5:58 p.m.
This is very consistent, Im trying to build a mono-u tron deck, I might favor this list over tolarian academy's. Is it worth having one or two thoughtseize as SB? With urborg it might be viable...
April 2, 2015 10:56 p.m.
@says - Oboro, Palace in the Clouds is immune to Sundering Titans effect and it can bounce itself to get 2 blue mana in a single turn if I need it. Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth allows me to cast Dismember without losing any life. It also allows me to destroy an additional land with Sundering Titan since all their lands are Swamps as well. Both are fetchable by Expedition Map if that's what I need.
@naletto - The tolarian academy list is a great place to start, but I've definitely honed mine to play how I like it. Thoughtseize in the sideboard wouldn't be very consistent because you couldn't use it turn 1 unless you happened to draw Urborg in your opening hand as well and if you're spending Expedition Maps to get Urborg in play to Thoughtseize then you are delaying getting the Tron lands into play. Also, this deck runs more counter spells than most decks, so Thoughtseize isn't quite as necessary/effective I would say. But I definitely recommend trying out U-Tron if you love control, it's such a fun deck to play.
Thanks for checking out my deck!

how much stuff do you tend to have in your graveyard by early to mid game? Logic Knot may be worth considering as something to have before tron comes online.
April 8, 2015 6:36 p.m.
@naterino - The problem with Logic Knot is the UU casting cost. This deck avoids UU like the plague. Means I wouldn't be able to cast it most games in the first 5+ turns. I don't get 2 sources of blue mana that often in the early game.

Not to mention u tron uses the yard with snaps and Academy Ruins
April 9, 2015 5:44 a.m.
How do you feel about Karn Liberated over Ugin, the Spirit Dragon? I just feel like Karn can remove things much more effectively by exiling than Ugin can with three damage.

tyforthevenom says... #22
I think like all torn players, Karn is less effective if not on curve
April 12, 2015 12:41 p.m.
@Saltblast - He's right. Karn is great on t3-4 and can really lock down the game, but I would need a magical christmas land hand to get all 3 tron lands and a singleton karn in my opening hand. No matter when he hits the field, Ugin can wipe everything else, yet leaves most of my permanents. And the 3 damage is a viable win-con once he's on the field and cleared out everything else.
April 12, 2015 1:34 p.m.
Also, many MTG players don't realize that Mono U Tron is a control deck. It was designed to lock out your opponent with Mindslaver + Academy Ruins. R/G Tron was designed to be more of a aggressive deck that has to assemble the tron pieces asap. Mono U Tron, doesn't have to have tron in order to win. Therefore, Karn is really meant for the R/G version of the deck, and an unstoppable card early to mid games. Karn needs to come out fast to be the most effective, and since Mono U Tron, is slow since its control, Karn isn't a good option. Ugin, actually works much better because its really good for the late game, which matches the control design of Mono U Tron.

Wow not a bad deck at all! With the Urza lands your mana well pretty much never goes dry, and you can cast big artifact creatures with ease. I played this deck twice against my Isochron Scepter Deck, and won once and lost once. It won the first time because of Academy Ruins + Mindslaver and Spell Burst. I couldn't use Isochron Scepter imprinted with Fog because Spell Burst wouldn't let me. On game two though, I had tron down to 3 life, and then it out came a Platinum Angel. I had tron at 0 life for 4 turns until I imprinted another Lightning Helix with Isochron Scepter and finally killed Platinum Angel. The deck is amazing and can definitely stand it's ground. Btw, my Isochron Scepter deck was undefeated against 7 modern decks on Tappedout. They were: Melira Pod, U/R Delver, another Tron, Affinity, Jund Midrange, Bogles, and a burn deck. So your deck is definitely good. +1.
