Death and Taxes is a mono-white midrange deck that uses hatebears and land destruction. This variant drops cards like Aether Vial and Flickerwisp for Eldrazi Temple, Eldrazi Displacer, and Thought-Knot Seer to add strength and new synergies.

Deck Contents

Dryad Militant is a great first turn play; a 2 power creature and disruption against cards like Snapcaster Mage and Tarmogoyf/Grim Flayer.

Thalia, Guardian of Thraben slows down many powerful decks like Burn and Combo, and throws decks off-curve. The first strike is a great ability as well and shouldn't be overlooked.

Leonin Arbiter preys on the ever-present fetch lands in Modern, and improves our cards like Path to Exile and Ghost Quarter.

Kitchen Finks is an all-around great card: A 3/2 that gains you life and takes 2 removal spells to kill. The Persist counter can also be reset with Eldrazi Displacer.

Blade Splicer is one of the few cards that doesn't bring any hate, but when paired with Eldrazi Displacer can create as many 3/3's with first strike as you want.

Eldrazi Displacer is the utility card in this deck, doing anything from saving your creatures from removal, to recurring effects from Thought-Knot Seer and Blade Splicer, to tapping your opponents creatures during combat.

Matter Reshaper is the card you want to be killed, because almost any card in the deck will be put into play with its effect. Your opponents have a dilemma: Take 3 damage each turn, or give you an even better card.

Thought-Knot Seer is great at removing threats or removal late-game, and a 4/4 is nothing to scoff at.

Reality Smasher adds strength and inevitability to your late game, and gets card advantage from being killed.

Ghost Quarter is the star nonbasic land in the deck, allowing you to get rid of manlands, get your own lands in response to a Blood Moon, and has positive synergy with Leonin Arbiter.

Tectonic Edge as some extra land destruction, especially against control decks.

Eldrazi Temple to help cast early-game Thought-Knot Seer or Eldrazi Displacer.

Wastes in a miser's copy against Blood Moon decks so you don't get cut off from Eldrazi.

Path to Exile goes here because it's the only noncreature spell in the deck. Nothing else needs to be said about Path.
