  • Solidarity of Heroes: All creatures can get counters. This enables surprise lethal damage, or saves a creature from being lethal damage, or just generally causes mayhem. I know I wouldn't want to be on the other end of permanently doubled creatures.

  • Avatar of the Resolute : 2 devotion, on a 3/2 body, with trample and reach, and gets boosted by almost every creature I play? Enables ferocious with just a single other creature? 4 plz.

  • Winds of Qal Sisma : Fog? check. One-sided Fog? double check. Gimme dis.

  • Den Protector: Sometimes you whiff with Collected Company and need a redo. Plus it grants its own counter. Not bad at all.

  • Inspiring Call: Again, each creature has a counter. Why not make them indestructible, and draw a ton of cards? Has saved me a ton both offensive and defensively.

  • Tuskguard Captain: Yet another creature that grants its own counters, plus it provides a win condition. You can also randomly win by Collected Companying it for the win.

  • Bow of Nylea: Provides SO much utility. Recursion, Life, anti-Flying, and of course more counters. Plus 2 more devotion. Plus, it grants deathtouch to creatures that will already have trample, maximizing damage.

  • Reverent Hunter : Most valuable creature of this deck. Grants itself at least 1 counter no matter what, scales with the rest of the game, and Collected Company can retrieve it easily.

4 cmc

  • Collected Company: Notice how all the creatures above are 3cmc or less? Yes. That was on purpose. If I whiff, I'm 6 turns closer to my next creature. If not, I get to flash in up to two creatures.

So I tested this in an LGS that I was somewhat familiar with the meta. Turns out two weeks changes a lot more than you'd think. Display of Dominance only helped against a Sorin, Solemn Visitor but was otherwise a dead draw. There was only one other black permanent I saw, and it was Siege Rhino which DoD can't get. there was a blue/black deck, but I never faced him.

So, cards that overperformed: Elvish Mystic. 1 mana, 1 devotion, not defender, is a dork, can take Servant's counters in a pinch. Servant of the Scale. 1 mana, 1 devotion, reliable aggro and defense if you have a single creature out. Scales with the rest of the game. Inspiring Call. Almost all creatures have counters on them, so basically it becomes "Creatures you control gain indestructible until end of turn, and draw a card for each of them." Seriously powerful, and not to be underestimated in the right deck. Tuskguard Captain. I've hardcasted and Companied him out. he's more of a win condition than win more, but 2 or 3 is exactly what I need.

Underperformers: Collected Company, surprisingly. I have too few creatures to make it worthwhile. I may have to sub in Satyr Grovedancer or some other decent 3cmc or less green drop, maybe Hero of Leina Tower.
