Just a precaution, Tragic Slip on a Wild Beastmaster becomes a one sided board wipe if your opponent casts it in response to your declare attackers step. You may consider adding card:Ranger's Guile or Wild Defiance to your sideboard.

@ Alien

You can't respond to the declaration of attackers. You can only do things before attacks have been declared, or inbetween declaration of attackers and blockers. The declaration of attackers doesn't go on the stack. Even if you did Tragic Slip the Beastmaster after attackers, the other creatures would still get the boost, as the attack has already been declared and Beastmaster's effect has triggered and resolved. If you wanted, you could try and Slip the Beastmaster before combat, but then that idea is susceptible to things like Giant Growth .

@CreationArt Slitherhead is in Return of Ravnica and is legal, must be an error in dah system :D

@Eskimole Thanks for clarifying there!

@alienomega I have been thinking about taking card:Ranger's Guile instead of giant growth (or maybe sideboard it against heavy removal decks). Removal of any kind really hurts this deck.

oh and to tag cards two put two "[" symbols on either side of the card name.

eg. [example card], but with two of the "]" and "[" symbols.

Maybe find a way to add in Invisible Stalker and Revenge of the Hunted could also really help

This deck is fun to play and has a ton of muscle when it gets going. Interested to see which cards you would splash to counter heavy removal. That's the only trouble I've had so far.

Oh I forgot to update my sideboard - last night I made a few last-minute changes to the SB. Putting them up now.

Ok, 1st change after FNM: Replaced Giant Growth with card:Ranger's Guile. The amount of times last night that I had a giant growth in hand when a Ranger's guile would have saved a creature where moderately embarrassing.

OK Elvish Visionary s, you've gotta go... but what 2-drop do I swap you with? The pickings are slim...

In that case, the best thing is probably Brushstrider . It has 3 power for 2 mana, and has vigilance as well. You could also try Hamlet Captain , because of the Beastmaster, Pilrim and Chamion, but I wouldn't reccomend it. That being said, it does have some synergy with Wild Beastmaster and Champion of Lambholt ...

I may try Scorned Villager  Flip subbed for Elvish Visionary because sometimes I'll be holding one of the 4 or 5 CMC cards wishing I could play it without having the mana in the pool by 1-2. Maybe I'm just getting unlucky draws or it could be overkill with card:Avacyn's Pilgrim, so I'm going to play more and see.

I feel as if you could take out the garruk's for another ranger's guile and main board 2 Revenge of the Hunted

@Eskimole Yeah I was thinking about Brushstrider but the 1T makes it really easy to kill, so I'm not sure if I'd actually prefer it over a 1-drop like a young wolf, which brings a lot more survivability to the table. I'll be doing testing regardless, so thanks for the recommendation.

@SleepDealer Yeah she is in my maybeboard, I'm just scared that most of the time she will be an expensive llanaowar elves, and again she is really easy to kill off, although her transformed version is quite good. I'm thinking about removing card:Avacyn's Pilgrim and if I do I think that Scorned Villager  Flip would become a lot more useful to the deck.

@spacecoyote1313 Although at first glance Garruk, Primal Hunter does not look amazing in this deck, he is. He has won entire games for me and his draw mechanic is insanely useful for this deck. Its why I have 3 of him, because honestly he is one of the best cards in the deck. Revenge of the hunted has nothing on him :D.I feel as if you could take out the garruk's for another ranger's guile and main board 2 Revenge of the Hunted

The thing about Brushstrider is that it becomes a target for your opponent. If you land a turn 2 Brushstrider , the opponent immediately want to kill it or trade with it. However, trading with it or letting it die through something like Pillar, and then landing a Champion of Lambholt or Wild Beastmaster to a clear board will put a lot of pressure on the opponent, especially if they used up their removal on the Strider.

Imho of course.

I prefer Sheltering Word over card:Ranger's Guile. I know I might be alone in this assessment, but a bunch of life gained off of a Wolfir Silverheart is a much greater advantage than +1/+1. But that's just my opinion.

November 4, 2012 11:59 p.m.

Hidden_Blade says... #24

@Eskimole You do have a good point there, actually. And I mean, if the opponent doesn't remove it then I have the benefit of a 3P vigilance to beat some face... Hmm, you have given me some ideas for playtesting...

@magicbananas Yeah of course Sheltering Word is better, the only reason I have not mainboarded it was the fact that I usually need the protection it provides early game, and keeping 2 mana free is difficult in a creature-based deck.

I'm not a fan of Brushstrider seeing as how you can take it out with a sneeze. What about Timberland Guide to put counters on Champion or the Beastmaster?
