.... Or so I've heard!
Hey there, just like my last deck ZERO Non-land permanents deck!! , I've decided to come back with some more BURNN for Standard!
First off, before anyone mentions that Frank Karsten made a deck similar to this, I built this on Feb 1st, well before his article came out, but seeing the power of Satyr Firedancer was pretty easy in a shell like this, so I'm certain many versions will be popping up, and I'm not surprised to see an extremely similar version, when all 3 creatures seem like auto-includes and surround them with burn. I also will state however that I did use the black/white, black/red temples for the black 1/2 of Toil/Trouble which I hadn't thought of doing based on his article. But that's how we improve our decks, testing and suggestions!!
This deck is definitely more competitive then the Zero non land permanents deck, and equally as fun, althought casting a large epic experiment was quite hilarious.
The basic idea is obviously burn them out, and with the addition of Satyr Firedancer this becomes a whole lot more viable. If he is on the battlefield, almost nothing smaller then a 4 drop will be surviving us burning our opponents dome and having the Satyr smoke their creatures.
A good synergy with the Satyr also is
Searing Blood
, you can essentially 2-4-1 them and deal 3 to the dome, seems pretty legit for 2 mana. I've only started with 2 mainboard and a third in the side, meta depending of course.
Young Pyromancer - is great at pooping out some tokens, and you'd be surprised when you clear an early blocker or 2, and make some dudes, especially with the Satyr out how fast their life total dwindles.
Chandra's Phoenix
- Same old bird doing it's resurrecting thing, and I don't think she has a better home than in here.
Skullcrack - I choose to main board 4 of them because with a Satyr out it's removal spell + 3 to the dome anyways, and being able to G1 punch them in the face in response to their Gary and Revelation is just too good.
Toil / Trouble - became a breakout in a GP near the end of 2013 for how well it punishes control and can also draw us a couple cards. Buddy at the GP did well, Karsten likes it, and I like it, has to be good!
Testing on Cockatrice I have played about 12 matches so far and won probably 10 or 11 of them. I would say that's a VERY reasonable start to testing a deck, and it can probably get even better. I have had about 5 or 6 people in the last couple days ask me for the list so they can try it out, so that's definitely a compliment and shows the strength of it after the lose to it. Definitely a nice feeling.
I have been starting to see an influx of Re-animator decks floating around now on cockatrice due to the fact that new green Satyr from BNG was the missing piece, and if that deck does see the play and put up results I would definitely want a pair of Rest in Peace in the board, because aside from shadorborn demon their creatures aren't that great without graveyard and Whip of Erebos help.
Small creature decks, ie RDW, white weenie, etc, have been a breeze to win. I only played a single game against RG monsters, but managed to win it, even after an opposing turn 3 Polukranos, World Eater, although I could see that match being tougher then most against reasonable draws from them. We REALLY want 1-2 Satry's to stick vs them.
The sideboard is fairly straight forward, but if you want to know what to swap vs. specific decks just ask in the comments!
Also, as with any deck there is always room for improvement, and as stated I'm only about 12 matches deep into testing, so there is a lot more to be done, as I love where this stands in the competitive scene. Reason being, it has good/great match ups versus mono B and UW control which are the top 2 decks currently.
So, if you have any suggestions, or just like the deck I'm always up to hear them, and +1's are greatly appreciated! Help me bring another burn deck near the top of TappedOut!!
Cheers :)
