You could switch Primeval Bounty for Blind Obedience .

Not only does this reduce your mana curve (slightly), it slows down your opponent's aggro and also gives you the additional option to use Extort to trigger Archangel of Thune ability on every other spell you cast.

I'm trying to come up with a similar deck abusing Archangel of Thune which you might find some ideas from : Thune/Extort

Pre playtesting comment: Lay of the Land won't be effective enough to consider running, you'd be better off going with using Deathrite Shaman as mana dork 5-8 and find room for a playset of Grisly Salvage as it can not only find you a land, but fill your graveyard to make ooze and deathrite better (also it can somewhat tutor a needed creature sometimes)

Vault of the Archangel gives lifelink to things :)

I would drop Blood Baron of Vizkopa and add Kalonian Hydra . Gain life and thune puts a counter on your stuff and then swing with hydra

I also agree with wombocombo. I would drop Primeval Bounty and run Blind Obedience . Also I'm no sure that Advent of the Wurm is really doing anything for you. Drop those and either run another removal or Fiendslayer Paladin . If you go removal Putrefy would work well

my suggestion of deathrite would work optimally if you added Grisly Salvage as well.

What would I take out for Grisly Salvage ?

Yeah Sanguine Bond is sick and it will snowball so hard only thing is it might throw off my curve TOO much ya know?

I'm also making a G/W/B life gain deck for post rotation. Please take a look Trostani Voice of the Archangel, it's more creature based but has similar elements to yours.

I've tried Sanguine Bond but if feel as though it can be powerful, but more in a defensive deck like orzhov.

Against midrange decks you'll have to worry about dealing with their threats rather than tapping out on Sanguine Bond . I think Path of Bravery , is a good one (cheaper too! 3cmc) it may not effect the board immediately but once you get angel out you get a +1/+1 counter on your team as soon as you swing, before combat! Which is important cuz some people may over look that fact when blocking.

Overall I like your take on the deck, haven't thought of using Grisly Salvage in that way. The ooze is so good, I can't wait to start using them also!

4x Soulmender can't be bad :) only with the archangel. but still

Champloo says... #14

Yeah Soulmender is sick, but I don't know if he's good enough to replace anything. : /

WomboCombo says... #15

I found Soulmender works well with Ready .

Go in the combat and announce attackers. Tap Soulmender to pump your creatures with Archangel of Thune on the field. Cast Ready , everything untaps, re-tap soulmender to pump again.

Ooh I like that, what would I replace for Soulmender ? Centaur Healer ?

July 20, 2013 12:37 a.m.

Bellock86 says... #17

That's what I would switch. Drop healer and add Soulmender . Cheaper repeatable and it's 1cmc

For the time being you could run pilgrim over the mystic seeing as you have more white to ramp for than green.

I think Soulmender is actually quite bad for this deck. He gives very little to this deck, I get that he taps to trigger the Archangel of Thune but that is turn 5 at the least (unless you ramp of course). I would personally drop him. And if you want to run Scavenging Ooze then drop Deathrite Shaman No one seems the understand that they counter each other. Both require creatures to gain life. Also, Sideboard Blood Baron of Vizkopa . I get that he is a strong creature but Obzedat, Ghost Council triggers the Archangel of Thune every turn and does 2 damage no matter what! On the note of 5 drops....6 is way too many. Hell 5 is a lot too but it is better than 6. I would say run 2 Obzedat, Ghost Council and 3 Archangel of Thune .Since you are running a life gain deck, Path of Bravery is an enchantment you will want in this deck. It is strongly underrated.

Nice choices! I have been working on something similar, but centered it more around super heals with Trostani, Selesnya's Voice and Sanguine Bond . I definitely have mana-curve issues, but the effect is great. ;) Death Afterlife

Agree with GraysonMatter - Soulmender should be dropped for something else. Its a neat idea to run him with Ready and Archangel, it never really works out.

At the moment, I'm trying Dryad Militant in place of Soulmender in my own deck to see how he plays out.

Path of Bravery is a good suggestion. It only triggers one life gain event, but it does it BEFORE combat damage which works well with Archangel of Thune . Even without the Archangel out, swinging with your weenies still nets you some beneficial life gain.

Also agree that even though Obzedat, Ghost Council vs Blood Baron of Vizkopa is a close call, overall Obzedat works better since his life-gain trigger happens pre-combat damage.

So what would I switch Soulmender back out with? Centaur Healer ?

July 25, 2013 1:18 a.m.

Puz says... #23

I just put together a deck that uses Archangel of Thune . I don't like Soulmender at all because he didn't guarantee life gain and I hated it (He could be killed before Summoning Sickness wears off). I also play Path of Bravery so the perfect card in the deck to bring me up to an early Life Point lead and have life gain for the archangel later game was Cathedral Sanctifier .

Champloo says... #24

What would Path of Bravery replace?

July 25, 2013 10:19 p.m.

bj0rN says... #25

This is what I would do:

-1 Fiendslayer Paladin , -1 Blood Baron of Vizkopa , +2 Path of Bravery

Reasoning is because your early mana curve are mostly of the Green and Black mana types such as Elvish Mystic , Deathrite Shaman , Scavenging Ooze , Abrupt Decay , Grisly Salvage . So as to have some slight stability, you can cut down the number of double white source that is needed from Fiendslayer Paladin just in case you have a very terrible start and things are not going well. As for replacing 1 Blood Baron of Vizkopa , the reasoning is just as simple as I feel that you don't need so many high costing cards and usually I feel that 2 is pretty sufficient and by replacing with Path of Bravery , you smooth out the curve better and it does contribute better in a longer run.
