MTG Smash-Up Mash Up: Archenemies

An Introduction

I was considering building a MTG cube to play with my friends but decided that I wanted to put my own unique spin on it. It just so happened that I played Smash-Up recently and fell in love with the game, namely the "slap two decks together and voila" portion of the game. I thought about how I could combine that with MTG and quickly did a "MTG SMASH UP" Google search. I found srgpoofy's already made Smash-Up list and decided to build upon it (at the time of writing, the deck list is identical to srgpoofy's. The decks are meant to be extremely flexible, so feel free to swap cards or even whole tribes. In fact, you don't even have to go with the tribe theme. I decided to stick with tribes to make the game more accessible to newer players (ie: my inexperienced family members). I created this with teaching MTG in mind so I kept the cards relatively simple and linear. Certainly, you could make more advanced decks, or multicoloured decks. I also refrained from including too many draw or mill cards because of the size of the decks (40).

Archenemies

With the Core decks, game play was extremely fun and volatile. But I felt like it was lacking a goal. In Smash-Up, instead of directly attacking players, players attack "bases" and try to rack up as many points as possible. I would call these bases the main point of contact. This was lacking in the original MTG Smash-Up Mash Up: Core set. I tried to come up with a format that would give the game that same "main point of contact". Luckily, I came across Archenemy - a format in which players co-operate to take down one other player (the archenemy). To streamline things, I created 5 ally coloured tribal decks and called them the "Archenemy Decks". The goal was for the Smash-Up decks to coordinate and take out the Archenemy, just like in the Archenemy format. I included 30 scheme cards that I thought were appropriate and not too overpowered.

How To Play

Follows the same rules as Archenemy. The AE also has access to 30 scheme cards.

Allies will choose at random 2, decks (of 20 cards) from the Smash-Up tribal decks and co-operate to take down the AE.

The AE will also choose his tribal deck (of 40 cards) at random.
