Any reason for Enhanced Awareness over a second Jace's Ingenuity?
I think you'll want to MB End Hostilities here. Maybe not a full set, but a couple for sure (though a full set in the 75 I totally agree with).
Hand disruption would also be great to have...Thoughtseize was what I tested with first but found that with the rest of the deck (especially the lands) I was doing too much damage to myself and ended up switching to Despise because they almost always would hit the same card anyway.
Sorin, Solemn Visitor can also be pretty bonkers...powerful on his own, and game breaking with Elspeth, Sun's Champion.
Idk if you've seen it, but
The Rogue Shard of Tarkir Playtest

Both have a similar and very solid / shell, but I feel like the splash of is more powerful than the splash of .
I really like this list! :-)

TheHroth This is what I've come to after some more thoughts on the matter. I am not a big fan of Sorin, Solemn Visitor in here even though it works well with Elspeth, Sun's Champion, but as a stand alone card, I feel it doesn't do even to affect my board state or my opponent. But what do you think about everything else? I ditched the Nullify because I have kill spells available instead. I added 3 Despise that can be sided out for Bile Blight if I play against a more token based match up. I like the Nyx-Fleece Ram main because of the lifegain and it stops aggro. It can be replaced with Brain Maggot for decks such as U/W Heroic and against control decks. I like the Pearl Lake Ancient in the side that I can swap in for Perilous Vault against control decks. Liliana Vess against something control. What do you think?

TheHroth I also want to utilize Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver as a 1 of, but I am unsure what to remove to put her in for. I want her maindeck. I was thinking taking out the Perilous Vault for her.
January 26, 2015 3:48 p.m.
I personally prefer to only have Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver in the control matchup (because amazing), but works well in the mid-late game against most decks to just kill them once they're reduced to just a couple cards and topdecks.
Taking out Perilous Vault isn't a bad idea at all. decks were running it before because they lacked an efficient sweeper (AEtherspouts and Whelming Wave just don't cut it), but with Crux of Fate, I'm suspecting they'll cut down on their numbers of it now. I'd personally still want it as a singleton in the side against Whip of Erebos decks though.
Overall, this looks really good. I like Glare of Heresy. I'm really not sure why I'm not running it.

TheHroth I really like Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver's ability to use my opponent's monsters against them. That's why she is a 1 of. She isn't the primary win-con, but she is amazing. Perilous Vault I feel is almost too slow of a removal spell for this deck (even though it's control). I feel like Banishing Light and Erase are good enough to get the job done against Whip of Erebos decks. I feel like End Hostilities is just plain better than Crux of Fate because it gets rid of everything and not make you choose. I feel like a control deck starting from scratch on the board has a way better advantage than a midrange/aggro deck does. So I don't necessarily care if a couple of my creatures get destroyed if it is truly going to benefit me.
January 26, 2015 6:11 p.m.
Well control can't use End Hostilities, hence they were using Perilous Vault. Sorry if that came out a bit confusing. End Hostilities is definitely better here.
Perilous Vault is definitely slow, and that's why no list would run a full set. Most of the time, just Vault hitting the field is enough to cause the opponent to be careful, and then using removal spells for what they do play will usually get the game in the bag.
Back to Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver: I truly love this card. It is simply so useful in so many matchups and at basically any time. I used to MB my copies but have been playing with him in the side lately and want him back. I'm just not sure where to fit him anymore.

TheHroth Do you feel Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver needs to be a 2 of?
January 26, 2015 7:40 p.m.
Not at all. He is certainly great when he comes up, but in no way necessary to the deck.
He's kind of odd in the sense that any number of him in a deck is good.
I'm personally of the opinion that more Ashiok = better, but I'm not sure where I'd make cuts to fit him into this board.
January 26, 2015 8:47 p.m.
Hear me out.
Out:3x Banishing Light
In:2x Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver1x Silumgar, the Drifting Death
Ashiok gets rid of most things you want to hit with the Banishing Light and lets you use them. Also you said it yourself Silumgar is almost impossible to deal with. So why not use him?

poipoi8 So you're then suggesting that I just go U/B by essentially doing that. I like having the white, it gives me a little more options and some extra control aspects. I did however change up the list a tad.

Removing Banishing Light isn't a horrible idea...there is so much enchantment hate played these days because of Whip of Erebos decks.
I was watching youtube deck techs last night ( control) and that subject came up...he was actually using Pillar of Light instead...though I personally don't like that. I think Devouring Light would be better, especially because you have Elspeth, Sun's Champion. You can easily drop her on 6 mana, +1 her, and still have mana up for a removal spell.

IMO you keep the Banishing Lights whether enchantment hate is crazy right now or not because its cost is flexible and so is the effect. If your opponent has to waste a spell on your banishing light great, but running 2 End Hostilities, Elspeth, and Devouring Light IMO strains the mana a lot. I'd stay like you are, seems like what you don't catch with a counter either has a removal spell to catch it and if not a creature or walker to deal with.

TheHroth JKLawson89 I actually removed the Banishing Light for Utter End to hope to curve out a little better, and the only thing that prevent utter end is Disdainful Stroke or another counter, but when playing blue, doubtful you even really need your utter end against them most of the time... (few exceptions). Plus, that way utter end can't be removed later for them to just get what they wanted back.
February 5, 2015 12:59 a.m.
Utter End is good. Perilous Vault is also a good idea.

TheHroth I like Perilous Vault I really do, but I fear it's way too slow of a sweeper. Essentially costing 9 mana over time.
February 5, 2015 11:57 p.m.
I find that often, just having it on the board is enough to deter opponents from doing much.
February 6, 2015 12:06 a.m.
Holy crap...so many win-cons. Haha. I would recommend SB-ing Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver in place additional control then bring him in vs monster matchups. He is a pretty sick walker, but hw has his limitations and he is a little reliant on your opponent to get full value. Sorin, Solemn Visitor seems a little lackluster here as well...it seems that about the only time you will get full value is when you laready have Elspeth, Sun's Champion on the field. I run a U/B control list and I feel like 4-5 win-cons are optimal to ensure you have enough answers to situations. With these 3 openings I would add 1 Hero's Downfall, 1 Disdainful Stroke, and 1 Despise. The idea of this deck is to get your opponent to top-decking while you still have 2-3 answers in hand. To this effect, I'd like to see a pair of Thoughtseize somewhere in the 75. Removing a key combo piece can be catastrophic to some lists. How is your mana base working for you? 26 seems a little light for a control list to me...27-28 is about where I feel comfortable. You do NOT want to miss a land drop. :p The deck looks good though. I like Esper builds and it is nice to see a good one in standard. Congrats!!

Scytec I do not own any Thoughtseize and am looking for takers who want to trade but that has been very hard to come by. I see where you are coming from about Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver, but I feel she is too good not to mainboard and then side her out in bad match ups which is probably just token decks and other control decks. I really agree about Sorin, Solemn Visitor. I was hoping to down the line get a 2nd Ugin, the Spirit Dragon but as for right now, idk what would be good in that spot, because I'm trying to maintain some white in the main board otherwise I feel like it just becomes a straight U/B deck and I really like the addition of white. Any thoughts? What could be the optimal replacement for Sorin? He's also in there because he's my only way of mainboard life gain. And 26 lands hasn't been too much of an issue. I would go up to more lands if I had more card draw, but I don't know if I can fit it into the deck. What do you think of Monastery Siege as a 1 of in the main for Sorin for the Khans value?

Or Citadel Siege for the Dragons value for control which helps my 4 drop spot? I'm really hoping to help curve out better.

TheHroth How do you feel about Sorin in here? I added him because he's the only lifegain option I have and he's decently good on a clear board. Plus, he helps me curve out a little better. What do you think?
February 7, 2015 11:52 p.m.
I personally really like Sorin, Solemn Visitor.
Although he excels in x aggo/midrange decks, he is a very viable wincon in a control deck as well, and won me a lot of games when I used to run him in my list.
Obviously, he is at his best when Elspeth, Sun's Champion is also in play, but even on his own he is quite powerful. Playing him onto am empty board after casting a sweeper and using his -2 to make a vampire seems small, but if they don't have an answer to both him and the token right away, he'll quickly take over and start gaining tons of life and dealing tons of damage.
While I definitely don't think he is the best option (hence I removed him from my own list), he certainly is very powerful in the right moment.
