The Battle For A Good Muldrotha Brew Continues

This deck is the 3rd iteration of a Muldrotha deck I've created, and between all 3 decks there's probably been 100's of cards go in and out. But i think with the added resilience and synergy this is the best one yet.

I've had a Muldrotha deck almost from the week after it came out and since then I've realised a few things that I see most Muldrotha decks do but are hurting the overall strength of the deck. IMO they are;
  • Too much reliance on Muldortha being active, Not enough time and effort is put into non Muldrotha back up plans. There's so many infinite win combo's that Muldrotha can use if she's active. But having 4 or 5 in the deck tht are focused on her creates 2 huge problems

  • 1- you will have so many dead cards from drawing redundant combo pieces You only need (1 combo to win).

  • 2- when Muldrotha get's taken offline you have very little to do

  • Too many decks have fallen into 40 land builds, Even though we have a 6 cmc commander we don't need a ton of land in the deck. when built correctly 35/36 is pushing the upper limit, Most cEDH Muldrotha have 32 to 31

  • Lion's eye Diamond is worth 6 mana if we can get Muldrotha out with it. So having more artifact and general Tutors and less land's will be much better long term.

This deck has 2 main win con's that are run using Muldrotha, But to build in resilience we have 3 back up ways to win that don't require Muldrotha at all..but work because of the way in which we use our graveyard and life during the game. as a result there's very few dead cards and we will always have an option to win even if we get lot's of attention at the table.

I've listed and explained the winning Combo's in the deck below..

  • To Fix the land's issue is pretty simple, Make sure you have a full set of fetch lands and enough basics or duals to never have a mana source problem.

  • In order to increase our consistency we have 13 tutors with a specific card in mind, the tutors are in the deck to find 1 of 2 cards, either Lion's Eye Diamond or Deadeye Navigator getting Lion's eye early is what brings the power level up considerably.

Win Con 1

Deadeye Navigator + Lion's Eye Diamond + Muldrotha, the Gravetide Most standard Muldrotha Win con.... - Crack Diamond for blue - Recast with Muldrotha - Flick With Dead Eye - Recast and loop = Infinite mana, Infinite Summons

Win Con 2

Muldrotha, the Gravetide + Animate Dead + Lion's Eye Diamond + Phantasmal Image

Similar to 1,

  • Cast Muldrotha
  • Crack LED for 3mana
  • Cast Image, Sac original Muldrotha send to GY
  • Cast Diamond with new Muldrotha = + 4 mana
  • Use 2 mana from Diamond to cast Animate on GY Muldrotha, Sac Image
  • Cast Diamond up = +5 mana
  • You have a loop of Muldortha with Animate dead and then with Image, Cracking diamond for 3 every time and only spending 2

= Infinite mana, Infinite Summons

Win Con 3

This package is one of the new packages I've added in this iteration of my deck.

One of the issues of the deck was what to do while Muldrotha is offline, My answer is to focus on breaking ETB triggers with Deadeye Navigator

in our deck we have 2 creatures that will combo with Deadeye for infinite mana these are;

to pair with these we have a suite of lands that tap for multiple mana. This mana base is still in testing, i might switch back to a normal mana base if its too slow.

To match the infinite mana and flicker with Deadeye we have

To win get one of each out together like;

Deadeye Navigator + Palinchron + Skeleton Archer = Infinite damage to all opponents

Win Con 4

This win con is a good old fashioned beat face strategy. Lord of Extinction , Consuming Aberration , will be huge thanks to the mill we have in our decks. we can use this a few different ways

Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord + Lord of Extinction can be at times enough to win.

Consuming Aberration + Pathbreaker Ibex will also be enough to beat face. Huge board of creatures all with trample.

Win Con 5

Doom Whisperer + Muldrotha, the Gravetide + Second Chance

This deck uses our life to draw and tutor a lot. so getting low can happen quite quick. Second Chance can just jump out of nowhere. There's a couple cards like Doom Whisperer that fill our GY which is great overall and can guarantee we get to 5 life if we want to in a turn.

To compliment Muldrotha we have a lands package of;

As we mill we we have access to lots of GY lands this package makes sure our land count is top of the table.

To compliment the lands package we have

when combined with our access to multiple lands per turn from our hands or GY this land disruption will create a huge advantage for us

The Sideboard are options that could back in if you wanted to expand on a certain area
  • Pernicious Deed Good for keeping the board clear. was cut for space and It's a defensive style of play to fuly use Deed. This is a more Aggro Muldrotha

  • Price of Fame - Some commander removal that puts some stuff in the GY, Not bad

  • Lazav, the Multifarious Interesting utility card, Was in to the last minute

  • Palinchron - was in for a minute as can go infinite on it's own with correct mana base, I tried the mana base that would allow it to go infinite and it's just two slow but again this deck is wanting to be value based aggressive so in a defensive styled Muldrotha then probably a good option

  • Energy Flux - Won't affect us as much and can hugely affect our opponents. Similar thinking to some of the other options this is bit defensive so it's a sb option

Enjoy the Deck!

NOTE* Don't forget you can change the way the cards are sorted, IMO setting the custom categories is the best way to see what the deck is actually doing, But I know of some people who like to see the standard categories so if that's you then just switch it back.
