Creature (1)

Artifact (1)

Sorcery (1)

This deck performs very strong in my current playgroup. Was number 1 for a time until is started working on Aminatou. Since then i have fallen to 3rd place so its time for an update and bring Muldrotha back from the dead.

Muldrotha, The Gravetide

Intro

The theme here is Mill.. but at the same time, it's not traditional mill its combo. I tried making a traditional mill deck but it was always too slow. So I ended up with some infinite combos and next thing I know this deck is doing its thing very fast and can infinite mill everyone at the table on turn 3 if the start allign propery.

  • Lotus Petal This card puts in more work than any other card in the deck. Such a solid add. we usually are not playing artifacts for turn unless its for a combo piece so this little guy gets straight abused throughout the beginning of the game.

  • Lotus Bloom Having this and the Petal in your starting hand is so strong its stupid. this allows for a turn 4 muldrotha and you can immediately suspend it again right after playing it. setting you up in a nice position come turn 7 if you havent won by then. There are also ways to get it out for free such as Tezzeret the Seeker who can pull this and combo piexes with his #2 ability.

  • Phantasmal Image works very well as you can play this on just about any creature in your deck and get awesome benefits and if it dies its not a big deal. Also works as a full functioning copy of muldrotha for an infinite combo

  • Spore Frog solid easy every turn Fog basically.

  • Mystic Remora the cumaltive upkeep on this makes for an easy enchantment pick each turn if you dont have one. There are only 4 in the deck so this guy will get you tuns of draw for only per turn

  • Necropotence a decent draw engine. But be warned. Discarding is not your friend now.

  • Pernicious Deed This guy puts in tons of work too. With muldrotha and this out you can blow board state for 5 and keep muldrotha. (this will kill your artifact lands btw) You can even sac it for and kill all the tokens on the board every turn if you wanted. This will straight shut down a token deck.

  • Dream Halls One of the more interesting cards in the deck. If you run into mana issues and need that extra push this could be it. Plus the sacrifice goes to the graveyard and you can play something from the graveyard by saccing something to the graveyard. (You cant, however, sac a card to play the same card... sorry guy... I feel you.. I was right there with you until I read the rulings)

  • Unearth solid way to get a combo piece back form the graveyard right back into play.

  • Final Parting decent tutor that doesnt get much action. In this deck it lets us search for a whole combo early on.

  • Mulldrifter pay 3 to draw 2 cards every turn? why not?

  • Merciless Executioner and Fleshbag Marauder its nice ot be able to play these from the graveyard cause thats where they always end up anyway.

  • Crop Rotation The penalty to sac a land isnt really a penalty here in muldrotha.

  • Reshape which requires you to sac an artifact can be a meaningless penalty for this tutor. Just sac Lotus Petal or another cheap artifact and play it again.

  • Crystal Vein this land is simply amazing in this deck. If its out when you cast muldrotha and you havent played a land yet this turn.. this little guy is worth 4 colorless and an aditional 2 colorless each turn.

  • Terramorphic Expanse + Evolving Wilds can be used multiple times here which is great.

Phase one: Find Combo Pieces

Do this by getting into your deck as quickly as possible. Consider your graveyard essentially part of your hand. These cards help with that.

Phase Two: Find Wincon

After you have found your combo pieces you now need somewhere to dump all that mana.

Inginite mana and these cards is generally a game ender unless someone is running mill protection.

These cards can put out 1 or 2 players.

  • Increasing Confusion Can kill 2 people in the same turn.
  • Sands of Delirium Kills with colorless and can be played from graveyard with colorless.

  • Villainous Wealth This can help you win by playing an entire opponents deck against everyone at the table. Its best to hit another combo player or know your playgroup. For example. I know if i hit one of our guys token deck he runs a Concordant Crossroads and if i hit that its usually gg for other people at the table too. He will die next turn because of no cards so I need to use his cards this turn on everyone else.

Alternate: Win without a wincon.

Its important to take note of your playgroup and understand the dynamics of each deck. I need to know who is running counters and who isnt. I need to know what counters have been used and who has how much aailable mana to them. If everyone is tapped out its generally a GG.. Just play teh combo pieces and activate. Use cards like Gemstone Array and Cascading Cataracts to turn colorless mana into any color mana.

When you find yourself in a good position with a combo but nothing to use it on ask yourself these questions.

Do I have a totor?
Can I mill myself?

If the answer to either of these questions is yes then you basically just won the game.

Always leave yourself some saving grace if you mill yourself looking for a wincon. 10 cards is my rule. This is generally for wheel protection plus a couple of turns.

Milling yourself will always give you an answer. With infinite colorless mana however you always want to have the ability to bring Muldrotha out before you decide to combo off. If you dont have enough mana to do both then it might be better to wait.

Once you go infinite colorless though Muldrotha is only to play. If you have a card like Increasing Confusion you need and another ... in addition to whatever the combo requires to activate. Again pulling out Cascading Cataracts or Gemstone Array can give you the color you need.

This sets you up for a few things. If there is a wincon in the graveyard but its a spell. Use muldrotha to play a card like Nyx Weaver, Snapcaster Mage, or Codex Shredder and use their abilities to get the spell you need.

If you need say 2 of the same permanent type and you have used that permanent type already... cast Phantasmal Image targeting Muldrotha and let her die due to the legend rule and go to the graveyard. This means that your Phantasmal Image is now giving you a full set of Muldrotha permanents again. You can keep playing Muldrotha and the image over and over for infinite other permanents except creatures.

Use these methods to get you to a wincon and win the game.
