Maybeboard

Let me start out by saying:

If you're playing Muldrotha, the Gravetide and you've made it to late game with a loaded graveyard, you've won.

Muldrotha is a one-card engine and can utilize cards other commanders would find laughable; Seal of Removal becomes an "I'm gonna keep you off your combo/commander/value engine for a single U a turn" or "let's protect Muldrotha from targeted removal for a single U a turn- if that". Dance of Many becomes a 2-mana clone that sacs itself if need be. Nihil Spellbomb , Aether Spellbomb , and MindStone become re-castable cantrips and pinch-worthy removal for 1 to 2 mana. Night Incarnate (still beta testing this one) becomes an Anger of the Gods that keeps opponents off of their Thrasios, Notion Theif, and other various hatebears that can be cast once a turn. Oh, and Zur's Weirding ... let's not forget about this machine of a card. Just cast it once- see what happens.

I've been playing this deck for a while (the original list was heavily inspired by Spleenface's Make No Gravetide Image deck) and trust me, I love it. However, one issue keeps resurfacing time and time again: if she's not on the field, you can't win. It doesn't mean you're losing, it just feels terrible.

So, how's a Cedh player fix that issue? Simple: take the commander out of the combo. Enter: Consultation combo.

Now granted, we don't actually play Demonic Consultation like the normal consultation decks (in all honestly, it doesn't give Muldrotha much value other than being a wincon that's hard to cast back from the yard) however, we do play some spicey tech that other decks would probably turn their noses up to: Divining Witch . Our re-castable, flash-hulk-able, consultation-on-a-stick. He's our own personal Hermit Druid .

So, here's our wincons:

Flash + Protean Hulk is probably one of the most compact wincons in the format, so why not use it?

Hulk lines:

  1. End of last opponnet's turn or during your upkeep, before you draw:
  2. Laboratory Maniac + Spellseeker tutoring Tainted Pact and casting. Exile library, draw card, win game.

  3. turn before yours, before upkeep (to remove summoning sickness) into draw:

  4. Laboratory Maniac +diving witch+ Sylvan Safekeeper . Upkeep-> activate Witch, exile library, win game with Safekeeper backup

  5. Turn before yours, Tainted Pact in yard:

  6. Labratory Maniac+ Snapcaster Mage / Eternal Witness -> targeting Pact in yard + Sylvan Safekeeper (if grabbed the Mage), casting back Pact from yard.

If all else fails (or you just casually find the pieces in your yard, which happens quite frequently) you can always fall back to Muldrotha's signature combo:

Muldrotha, the Gravetide + Lion's Eye Diamond + Phantasmal Image / Dance of Many + Animate Dead / Necromancy + any of your re-castable cantrips ( Aether Spellbomb , Nihil Spellbomb , MindStone)

when Image enters, copy Muldrotha. Being a "new card" it allows you to reset all of your previous muldrotha's casts. cast LED, sac LED adding , recast and sac LED adding . Now, cast your first enchantment for turn, being the Animate Dead targeting your original Muldrotha. She enters, sacing the Image and once again resetting your casts for the turn. Cast the LED again and repeat the process until you have unbounded mana of any color, your storm count through the roof, and then proceed to cast all of your permanents from the yard. Replace the LED with one of your cantrip artifacts after you've established unlimited mana to draw your deck and follow through with Jace, Wielder of Mysteries or Laboratory Maniac to call it a day.

At this point, you can also loop Eternal Witness and Winds of Rebuke to mill out yards if need be.

Admittedly, there are certain cards in this deck that are total meta choices: Cursed Totem , Night Incarnate are just to name a few. I play a very Hulk and Pod heavy meta, so these cards tend to help more than hinder me. Plus, my commander tends to out-value the typical creature-based decks the longer she stays on the field.

There ya have it, folks: Consultation Muldrotha. I'll be making updates slowly as I go (the other wincon I've been considering is Bolas's citadel + top + aetherflux, but that one loses to Null Rod and Rule of Law effects) but for the meantime, this is it.

Cheers
