I'd suggest Glacial Chasm If your ok with playing it, once you've hit your needed about of lands you can lock people out of doing damage to you unless they have a way to exile it or destroy it the turn they need to do damage.

So after these few games, I've come to a few conclusions.

1: It feels like my current win-cons are all too slow. This deck seems to do well the more disruptive it is early though which allows those slow win-cons to work. I either need to add more disruptive lines early or speed up my win-cons. Opinions?

2: My mass removal is too slow or too expensive. Right now this just consists of Nevinyrral's Disk, Cyclonic Rift, and Pernicious Deed and this stops me from tutoring for immediate answers. I need to add Damnation, Toxic Deluge, or something I can hopefully play off the back of a tutor. Opinions?

3: This deck is not the right place for Earthcraft. Not due to lack of basics, but rather a lack of creatures I want to tap, I rarely seem to have more than 3-4 creatures out and my utility creatures all seem to tap first lol. This slot will eventually be Treachery but it's an opening in the meantime.

4: I think I can drop my land count to 35... but I'm not sure what to cut? All 3 cycling lands come to mind and that would free up 1 slot for another utility land as well as 2 more slots in the deck. Any ideas on what to test in the 4 slots that're opening up?

  1. You might be running too few ramp spells which is why the deck feels slow. Without infinite combo wins it's hard to play Sultai. You could try MLD-ish strategies like Natural Affinity into Massacre Wurm or Living Plane into Doomwake Giant. Maybe lock opponents out with Notion Thief and Teferi's Puzzle Box or other wheels (which are great for Muldrotha anyway). You might need to cut some of the smaller value creatures and cards for bigger, more impactful ones like Sepulchral Primordial.

  2. Toxic Deluge and Damnation are both good. Phyrexian Scriptures is tempting as an additional Nevinyrral's that doesn't kill Muldrotha. Profaner of the Dead might be helpful as a lock. You should have a Force of Will and Pact of Negation for the Rite of Replication.

  3. Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur makes for a great reanimation target. If you're having trouble with creatures, recurring Merciless Executioner and Fleshbag Marauder could help. This is a good chance to get in Sidisi and more ramp.

@ elgosu1337 - Thank you. I've admittedly never played Sultai, ever in any format or even casually. This deck is feeling like Ghave in the sense that I tried to go fair and that wasn't cutting it, so I'm probably gonna add some combos.

I'll also definitely consider more ramp. Do you recommend mana rocks, mana dorks, or spell based ramp? I fortunately play a lot of 3 color decks so I have some of the best options in all varieties (no LED sadly). This should take care of problem #1.

Removal I'm going to start with what I have combined with Fleshbag Marauder and Merciless Executioner. I'll probably add Damnation too (but not yet) as I don't have much lifegain to offset Toxic Deluge.

I'll also step up my threats and reanimator package. Probably not Jin out of personal hatred but still something like Primordial, Vorinclex, Protean Hulk, and I might even break down and add Triskelion and Walking Ballista for combo purposes.

Any suggestions anyone in some cuts?

Im impressed you didn't add Mishra's Bauble to the deck, its pretty fun to recast every turn once you have Muldrotha.

Last_Laugh says... #6

Nope, no Mishra's Bauble, if I were to run that sort of thing, I prefer Urza's Bauble for hand info.

Anyways, made some cuts and additions but haven't gotten any playtesting in and I was hoping for some opinions or suggestions.

Out: 3x cycling lands, Earthcraft, Life from the Loam, Fauna Shaman, Fact or Fiction

In: Fleshbag Marauder, Merciless Executioner, Reanimate, Victimize, Sepulchral Primordial, Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger, and 1 utility land, suggestions?

How about Ash Barrens? With things like Life from the Loam the Barrens regains value quickly enough.

The deck looks amazingly solid btw and I'm very pleased that you decided to make a Muldrotha deck too, L_L.

Mine is here: Bilgewater Echoes

How goes it Lil_Kalki?

I actually had Life from the Loam in here and didn't feel it did enough even with running all 9 fetchlands I can and it having dredge. It's not a card that's out permanently and I put it back in the maybeboard.

Ash Barrens I don't run just due to lack of basics. With 9 fetches and 15 fetchable targets, 9 of which barrens would compete for, it just doesn't work. 1 of those Islands is a placeholder for a utility land but I'm not sure what yet lol... opinions?

Well for lack of other options, gonna try Yavimaya Hollow seeing as I own a copy.

Got in 1 more game today and boy was it a long one. Lost, but not too surprised. All 3 of my opponents were A: playing blue and B: were running a LOT of answers lol. One of my opponents was also playing blue Braids which just threw the game on its head anyways and allowed people to drop bombs while holding up plenty of mana for answers.

I think my opponents had more fun with my grave than I did... Body Double copied my Sepulchral Primordial then that same copy was Rite of Replicationed for 5 more copies by another opponent lol.. meanwhile I was sitting on 4 mana. Sidisi, Mikaeus, and Sheoldred all turned traitor as well. All in all not a good game for evaluating how the deck did, but it was a fun game and that's all that matters.

I took a bit different route, but in the end, it all comes down to outvalue you opponents.

Have you considered Wave of Vitriol? That seems like it could be especially evil in Muldrotha, I've added it to my own list (not done yet, I'll make it public when it's a little closer). I've also added Mana Chains, it's a bit slow to kill a creature, but the best part is the potential resource denial. Kill a few lands so they can't pay the upkeep and it gets even more gross.

May 6, 2018 2:22 a.m.

Last_Laugh says... #14

@Russ1981 - Mark of Eviction is probably a better option than Mana Chains. A: It doesn't need Muldrotha for recast, and B: It won't just tax, it WILL return the creature. Still slow, but not nearly as slow.

May 6, 2018 12:40 p.m.

Russ1981 says... #15

Ah, good call, I'll have to consider that one. Yeah, put it on an expensive creature and it'll REALLY wreck their tempo.

Have you tried Villainous Wealth? I love that card in this deck, especially if you have Eternal Witness. Ramp and make it really beg while you can just replay it once e witness enters

Dream Halls is absolutely ridiculous with Muldrotha. Muldrotha can let you cast it, and once it hits you can just go crazy, and any kind of card draw is stupid. The only thing to watch out for is playing against decks that can make use of it. But if all goes well, you can probably get so far ahead the turn you play it that it wont matter what your opponents do.

May 10, 2018 12:10 p.m.

Last_Laugh says... #18

@pyromaniac53 - I want to run that card... but it scares the crap out of me lol. Yeah I can do some pretty degenerate stuff with the card... but my opponents can too and they'd have a hayday with what I can only describe as a mini omniscience for everyone.

Speaking of Omniscience. I got a game in earlier today with this deck and I copied an opponents' Omniscience with Clever Impersonator and then shut theirs' off with Song of the Dryads... fun game.

Last_Laugh says... #19

@Splitcell - I've considered the card but this particular build doesn't ramp very hard. That will change and I'll have to test the card at that time for it to have a fair chance.

I'm planning on upping my mana ramp but want to weed out underperformers to make room slowly. I'm probably going the artifact route for ramp and will eventually be adding Mana Vault, Grim Monolith, Talisman of Dominance, Signets, and probably Copy Artifact. I'm sad Pentad Prism doesn't sac when its counters are gone, that card would be nuts. Any suggestions anyone for ramp (other than Lion's Eye Diamond lol)?

This is entirely dependent on what your meta is, but Carpet of Flowers can be great if there are a couple blue players. Chromatic Lantern is always great too.

Stompytime says... #21

Ive read through a lot of these Muldotha posts and deck lists and I have yet to see 1 run Tortured Existence. What do you think of this card?

May 10, 2018 9:37 p.m.

Last_Laugh says... #22

@pyromaniac53 - That's a great suggestion. I'll have to eyeball my meta close though as there are a LOT of 3 color decks which probably amounts to a lack of islands.

Chromatic Lantern I've considered, but less for mana fixing or ramp and more to combat Aven Mindcensor type effects which can make 9 fetches suck bad.

May 10, 2018 9:50 p.m.

Last_Laugh says... #23

@Stompytime - I've seen it in 1 or 2 lists. I think you'd be better off sticking the triad of Animate Dead, Dance of the Dead, and Necromancy personally but it's not a bad card and can make our grave relevant still if Muldrotha's taxed into oblivion.

Stompytime says... #24

I am currently building the deck and haven't determined which direction I want to go with it yet I'm leaning towards all permanents or very few that aren't. Why are you not running any planeswalkers in your build?

May 10, 2018 10 p.m.

Last_Laugh says... #25

I don't own Liliana of the Veil or she'd probably be in the list. Other than that, their cmc is typically too high for the effect even if it is an untouched permanent type for me.
