Nice deck pall, its a mean machine. One thing I don't understand : How does Triskelion + Mikaeus, the Unhallowed means insta death? Would't you need a sacrificing outlet like Blasting Station or Altar of Dementia to kill Triskelion ? I mean, he still has 1 toughness.

Triskelion can remove his own +1/+1 counters to shoot your opponent in the face, and Mikaeus, the Unhallowed gives him undying so he returns with a +1+1 counter. Use 2/3 counters to shoot your opponent for two, use the last one to kill Triskelion making him come back with four, use three to shoot your opponent and the last to kill Triskellion and repeat.

I like Blasting Station for this deck though, and since I'm trading out some of the artifacts it currently has I'll slide one in for testing. Thanks for the recommendations.

Facepalm Oh darn I see now, thanks for the info!

By the way, if you feel like it, come around and have a look at my decks! I mainly play EDH, but I got a few other types as well.

If you want this deck to be Modern viable, you probably want to reduce your curve a little. Cards like Mikaeus, the Unhallowed, Triskelion, and Vengeful Vampire are a little too expensive to have in a deck unless they can win by themselves. The Mike+Trike combo is cool, but it will rarely happen due to your lack of tutors and the high costs of the cards.

I would recommend cutting them and adding some disruption/removal to ensure that you can remain alive until you kill your opponents. Cards like Inquisition of Kozilek, Thoughtseize, and Duress can attack your opponent's hands and keep you from dying to combos. Terminate, Lightning Bolt, and Doom Blade are also cheap ways to kill their creatures and leave the field free for your undying creatures.

Also I love Lightning Coils, it would be a cool card to have in here.

I thought that was probably the case for Vengeful Vampire, I thought it would just be nice to have more undying creatures but you're probably right. Too bad about Mike+Trike since you're correct, in none of my play tests have I actually won that way which suggests it's too difficult to get them out. Lightning Coils was in the deck but I found it didn't often happen, although it will probably end up in the actual copy of this deck since I don't feel like paying for the AEther Vials just yet. Any suggestions for sideboard? I work Friday nights and haven't played with them yet (I'm pretty new.)

Well, you could always replace Lightning Coils with something like Blood Artist that triggers whenever other creatures die.

Also good sideboard cards that are cheap include Leyline of the Void against graveyard shenanigans, Slaughter Games against combo, Ricochet Trap to deal with control, Dragon's Claw against burn, and in general killspells/hand disruption work in most match ups.

With your BBB casting costs, I'm surprised you don't run Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth or Bloodstained Mire. Much more efficient than running the Evolving Wilds to hopefully mana fix.

As for creatures, I don't think that Pyreheart Wolf is a 4of. You should have Hound of Griselbrand.

Duress is nice, but I feel like if you want to go more aggro, just do aggro. Forget about disruption. Add more Lightning Bolt or even some Tragic Slip

Tragic Slip could be great here. I'll swap it for the Duress those. Pyreheart Wolf is there because I had few low cost creatures to put down, but with all 4 Lightning Bolts in I'll play with removing some and putting in Hound of Griselbrand because he should be in here. Thanks for the advice!

As for mana fixing... I should do that you're right. I only didn't because I was worried about price, but the way this deck is going I should view it as more of a long term investment.

Retribution of the Ancients is god-tier tech for this deck.

If youre looking to speed this deck up you should definitely replace the temples with either more basics or more shock lands. Blackcleave Cliffs is another dual that could work if youre looking for a more budget option. Also, as FatherTime said, Urborg should definitely find a home here because of the BBB costs.

Not a big fan of the Necrotic Plague why not using Stab Wound instead?

My creatures have this weird, pseudo-indestructible thing going on, but Necrotic Plague really does get rid of indestructible creatures whereas I am largely unaffected by it. Maybe it makes more sense in sideboard though. Thanks for your feedback.

I'm not sure how much adding persist creatures adds to my game plan overall, but I'll look into it. That said, Cauldron Haze opens up at least 2 infinite combo's all on it's own along with Blasting Station so thanks for bringing this card to my attention!

I would swap Blackcleave Cliffs for either Dragonskull Summit or Blood Crypt. If you use Blood Crypt you can get it with your Bloodstained Mire as well.

Maybe in the future if you'll add green to it. I would definitely recommand Plaguemaw Beast so your undying creatures get 2 counters. And I also Young Wolf, it's the same as Butcher Ghoul only 1 mana.

I like Dragonskull Summit far more than Blackcleave Cliffs thanks for reminding me of that card! I am running one Blood Crypt, it's just they're so expensive and I don't really like taking damage from my land.

I'm staying out of green because it simplifies the mana base and it makes it far easier to build a deck that runs without spending a fortune making the lands drop right. I'm just not ready to build a tricolour deck yet :P

+1 for finding a use for the undying counters with cards like Ion Storm. I really like this deck but I do not think that Cauldron Haze works the way you want it to. Or I do not see the infinite combo. According to Gatherer on Cauldron Haze, the persist only occurs once. After that, the returned creature is a new creature without persist and has no record of the Cauldron Haze effect. So forgive me if I do not understand.

The deck is great without it anyways.

MagicMarc Upon reading those rulings, you are correct. No infinite combo with Cauldron Haze :( I guess that does free up more space for removal though! Got any other suggestions for me?

You can go infinite pretty easily with Mikaeus, the Unhallowed and persist cards that are not humans. Like Mikaeus, the Unhallowed + Murderous Redcap + Viscera Seer as an example. Sac the redcap to the viscera seer, it comes back with a minus counter, Mikaeus gives it a plus counter so it now is in play with no counters, rinse and repeat. That will kill any number of creatures and players as well as infinitely scry your deck. You can always use some other sac outlet instead of the seer. Phyrexian Altar is infinite damage and infinite mana of any color. Devouring Swarm is an infinite damage and P/T creature. You get the idea.

With 2 x Fume Spitter and a Mikaeus, the Unhallowed and a Flayer of the Hatebound in play you can infinitely sac and return the Fume Spitters. Sac 1 to put a minus counter on a opponents creature, it returns with a plus counter, sac the 2nd fume spitter targeting the returned one, rinse and repeat til your opponent is dead.

If you have something like Falkenrath Noble in play while these go on it is also infinite life for you and loss for opponents.

I'd cut Piranha Marsh - the card is just...bad. I'd rather play a basic Swamp or one of the generic ETB tapped dual-lands. Personally I'd cut Duress and add Blightning instead - the card is a powerhouse. I'd also cut both Brain in a Jar and Power Conduit to add more creatures - you're very low on bodies at the moment. I'd recommend more copies of Demonlord and Messenger in particular. But if you add more Geralf's Messengers, you'll need to adjust the land balance of the deck to include much more black than red.

I hope that helps!
