Maybeboard

As of 4/28/2018, this is my up-to-date version of Meren of Clan Nel Toth value combo EDH. The deck focuses a lot on getting double or triple value out of every creature in the deck, but I have also begun exploring a more dredge-like strategy to take advantage of Meren's "to hand" portion of her ability too. At first I focused a lot on sacrificing creatures to cheat big dumb stuff onto the board with Meren, but after a while I realized I could be doing so much more.

Anyways, onto the win conditions:

  • Mikaeus, the Unhallowed + Triskelion : Mike and Trike; pretty self-explanatory. Mike is also a great card to double the value of all my creatures, especially the ramp creatures. Plus, if there's a sac outlet on board there's also an alternate version of this combo using Walking Ballista.

  • Mikaeus, the Unhallowed + Woodfall Primus : Now, I'll admit, there are times where I wish I had kept Terastodon in the deck instead of the Primus, but when you do get Mike and the Primus on the board with a sac outlet you almost outright win the game. You take away all of their noncreature permanents and watch them durdle forever while you beat them down (or find Trike to combo out). This is probably the more offensive combo, because instead of instantly killing the board like Mike and Trike it draws out everyone's death.

  • Ashnod's Altar + Grave Titan + Nim Deathmantle : Alternatively you can use the Hornet Queen for this combo, and as a result I am thinking about ditching the Grave Titan so I can add more tutors, but this combo is treated very much as a secondary win in case Mike and Trike can't work for some reason. Make infinite tokens and/or mana and kill the board, basically.

Important supporting cast:

  • Razaketh, the Foulblooded: Can be a pretty threatening guy to play on his own at the end of the game. Worst case scenario he fetches a combo almost for free.

  • Golgari Grave-Troll: One of the most recent additions, the dang thing can get ridiculously big in a short time in this deck and helps facilitate graveyard shenanigans by dredging. When I first made the deck I had explicitly not used this card because I had a reasonable amount of cards I didn't want in the graveyard, then I realized so long as I have Meren nothing is truly gone.

  • Eternal Witness and Skullwinder: The two solutions to the "dredge" problem I just mentioned. If I dump something into the grave that I really didn't want in there, these guys help me get it back. Many times that something happens to be Damnation or one of my sac outlets. Normally you'll want to have Eternal Witness over Skullwinder, but there's times where Skullwinder can be the better option, provided you've made friends at the table.

  • Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord: Throw shit at your opponents. Preferably throw a grave troll with, like, 30+ counters. Or you could throw Woodfall Primus. Or Protean Hulk.

  • Protean Hulk: Speaking of which, this guy's just too good not to include for obvious reasons. Sac it to an outlet, grab Mike and Walking Ballista and end the game immediately.

  • Sheoldred, Whispering One: Good body, built-in evasion, facilitates enemy creature casualties and resurrects extra creatures for you for free on each of your upkeeps. Basically just Meren if Meren's not around at the moment. My mistress, if you will.

  • Apprentice Necromancer: A lot more dangerous than most people are willing to pay attention to. This zombie boi helps get Meren juicy counters while cheating in any of our big ETB's for a turn. If Meren's got no counters, all it takes is one activation of this zombie boi to get a counter-generating-engine going, as the Necromancer sacrifices itself to grab an ETB creature, then that creature gets sacrificed and at the end of the turn you can put the necromancer right back onto the board to do it again next turn.

  • Spore Frog: Repeatable fog. One of the only things in the deck to deal with wide strategies like Locust God at the moment. Never cut this. If you do, you should just take the rest of your deck and cut it, too. . . in half. . .
