Very nice deck, seems pretty nasty. No Nightmare or Squelching Leeches ? It fits the theme, but your creature base looks pretty stacked as is. Maybe try out Liliana of the Dark Realms . Her Swamp tutoring would help you a lot and her -3 is severely underrated imho, especially in your deck. Her ultimate may not be too relevant, unless you were to add Consume Spirit . In which case I might suggest Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx and possibly Crypt Ghast .

@ Crovax the Cursed , im not a huge fan of Nightmare or Squelching Leeches but that's only because they don't do much on their own. Nightmare is better, but Wurmcoil Engine is a lot harder to deal with and also has lifelink. The planeswalker is good, but pretty open to burn spells since the loyalty counter starts at 3. But would probably look good in the sideboard, and could actually help this deck.

I would highly recommend Underworld Connections
instead of, or in addition to, Phyrexian Arena
. It has the bonus benefit of working in response to a spell, at instant speed, and is voluntary. You can't lose because Underworld Connections
is simply on the board.
Additionally, as in all mono-black decks I play, I would recommend Gray Merchant of Asphodel
, even as a sideboard option.
Whip of Erebos
is always a good thing to have around, especially since it gives lifelink to all of your creatures.
Erebos, God of the Dead is always a good addition to ensure that your opponents cannot gain life.

Underworld Connections is good, but its pretty much exactly the same. I dont have a problem with life ever, I usually end the game with at least 30 life. Gray Merchant of Asphodel while great with devotion, would not be a good stand-alone card with Lashwrithe or Batterskull ..Whip of Erebos tends to work better with agro weenies. Erebos, God of the Dead does fit very well in the sideboard though just for its ability.. Thanks!

There's also Strata Scythe . It's not as good as Lashwrithe, but may work! It counts another swamps in the battleground too, so I think it's a piece to think about :)

Strata Scythe + Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth is also pretty sweet, but you don't want to overbalance on equipment to creatures. I would like to see 1 Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth and 4 Blinkmoth Nexus for some additional finishing power and to help insure against flood. you could maybe even include Bojuka Bog in the mana base to have graveyard hate without taking up a lot of sideboard slots, but that might just be too cute.

Too much extra stuff honestly.. I dont think this deck needs any of that.. Basically we would be adding very small win con instances and taking away from the bigger ones.. What everyone needs to remember is that just because you have a urborg, doesnt mean youll get to play it.

I agree with u, why dilute the game plan. If u were gonna go that route Inkmoth Nexus would be the way because it loves Lashwrithe . Maybe a single fetchable Leechridden Swamp couldn't hurt though?

Croket07 : just pointing, Ulborg does not interact with Strata Scythe. The scythe considers the name of the land, not the type.

I believe Croket07 was implying that you imprint a swamp with the tomb already in play. Not imprinting the tomb. Jst helping to clarify.

vedalkin_mastermind: Of course would imprint a Swamp. Than equipped creature gets +1/+1 for each land named Swamp in play. If Ulborg is in play, a "Boros Guildgate" still is not named Swamp, so Scythe does not count it.

Ah yes i see it more clearly now. Names not types. My bad bros.... My bad.....

Great deck! I'm also a big fan of mono black and I have an 8 rack deck as well. After some testing, the only two problems I can see are not enough land filtering and hand disruption. Adding duress might be a good choice against decks that don't have many creatures:D

vedalkin_mastermind I'm sorry if I sounded rude, pal. :)

Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth would let you diversify your land-base.

sure it can take for mana. 'each' not 'other.' and you can bring like Mutavault or some other man-lands.
