I like the vexing... +1

Cool deck! Er... Hot, whatever.

It looks good as is, but I'm wondering if it would be worth it to you to run some artifacts simply for Shrapnel Blast . Maybe some artifact mana cards? Kind of a weird suggestion I know, but might be fun?

There's also fetchlands, but thats a huge investment as of late..

Still looks like a good deck! Just some thoughts.

PS I really like Vexing Devil , but for a deck like this, how does it compare to Lavamancer? Another random idea would be to splash some white and Proclamation of Rebirth your Devils and Guides....

Thanks for the comment!

Shrapnel Blast looks like it could be a very good burn card but I feel like I'd have to change the deck more just to accommodate it for the one card. I'm not to familiar with any artifacts that would help RDW but 5 damage for 2 mana is very appealing so suggestions welcome.

I play on MTGO so Fetches and Shocks aren't nearly as big as an investment as paper magic but still an investment for down the line which will help out current and future decks

I used to run Grim Lavamancer , which is why I have it in the maybe board, but I just didn't have a good experience with it. Vexing Devil hits hard on turn 1.

I have considered splashing white for Boros Charm . It's a good burn card being 2 for 4.

I don't really know too many mana artifacts, but there are a few on Gatherer.

Boros Charm is great indeed. I've had good luck with the Devil and Proc. But again, that's changing the game plan a bit.

Hope it keeps working out!

This seems legit, and extremely fast.

Only thing I would say is maybe a Guttersnipe ? I know it's a 3 drop but could pay off with all them instant and sorceries.

Thanks for the comment and I'm glad you like my deck!

I have never considered Guttersnipe , probably because he is a 3 drop, but his effect does sound good. I don't think I'd main board him but maybe in the sideboard bringing him in when games are slower like against control decks. He might be useful then to get some extra damage out of every spell and to still get damage in when being countered.

I would for sure add Browbeat . An underrated card that either hits for five or you're drawing three cards. Either is a win win

I totally agree ! Browbeat is awesome !

June 12, 2014 2:57 a.m.

Browbeat is horrible. It never gets you what you want when you need it. Other burn spells are guaranteed unless countered.

I'd definitley take out Molten Rain for Blood Moon in the sideboard. It drastically improves your matchup against Tron. It does screw your black splash, though.

To make the best of Searing Blaze , Arid Mesa and Scalding Tarn are necessary. Plus, they feed Lavamancer. And the shuffle is nice.

I don't know how Browbeat is horrible...You either are dealing 5 damage or drawing three cards. With this type of deck, card draw is a HUGE advantage to have with such a fast playing deck. However, I do agree with Blood Moon ...hell of a sideboard card!

June 12, 2014 9:50 p.m.

I concur that card draw is something that RDW could use. Wheel of Fortune used to be the prime choice in the day. Browbeat never does what YOU want it to do. Your opponent gets to choose... Think about that.

This article explains why Browbeat is bad.

Reforge the Soul is a far better option.

Speaking of Browbeat , you may find Vexing Devil offers a similar choice to the opponent. The devil is a strong card in RDW, but for Burn you might consider testing Grim Lavamancer in his place. It's been working out well for me, and the graveyard interaction is always relevant in a format with Tarmogoyf and Scavenging Ooze .

Good luck!

Blood Moon vastly improves the G/R Tron matchup. I'd sideboard that instead of Molten Rain .

How did Combust do in the Twin matchup? And did you side in Satyr Firedancer ? If so, how did it fair? I have yon Firedancer on my maybe board, Slagstorm in it's place.

You need more ways to cope if the games go longer.

Grim Lavamancer and Keldon Marauders are not bad creatures, and Ash Zealot and Blood Knight are good choices as well.

A few others have suggested Grim Lavamancer and while i recognize it as a good card potentially, in my experience it just never got rolling. Grim has been in and out of my deck since I first started playing with it. It would usually get removed before I could ever get it to do any damage or at best it was a Shock . I'm sure I'll give it another chance eventually but at the moment I have liked the deck without it.

Hey, first of all +1...

I'd like to discuss some options and variations with you as I play Burn as well.

To start, with your results posted above... How did you go 0-2 against Junk and 1-2 against GR Tron?

Were they bad draws? did they get strong counters without your answers?I feel as though Tron is a free win with our artifact and land hate...However Junk can be difficult.. Although with the Thoughtseize , 3 colour shocks/fetches and or Dark Confidant damage.. i feel as though we have a bit of a leg up?

Check out my variation

Against Junk in game 1 I was a top deck short of winning the first game, got over run by big Tarmogoyf s. In game 2 I mulliganed and kept a hand I probably shouldn't have for fear of going down to 5. I never got anything going and got destroyed. I decided that Anger of the Gods , despite not damaging the player, was the best option to help me out I jams and so far it has also helped make the Pod match up better.

In the Tron match up I took the first game but he was able to get a turn 3 Karn Liberated in both the 2nd and 3rd games. I had someone suggest Blood Moon to help and I love the idea but it's a bit high priced so until I can win more tickets I'll hold off on it.

one of my favorite card is Rain of Gore . it is really funny to look at opponents face when you put it in. :-D

Saljen says... #24

If your D is red, you may need to consult a doctor...

Also, splashing black for 1 card isn't really worth it. Makes it so you can't run Blood Moon main or sideboard. Blood Moon will just give you free wins sometimes, I would make room for it and drop the second color.

Finally someone gets the joke haha.

Blood Moon is a card I have been considering and will try out when I get a little extra $.

The black splash for Bump in the Night gives me 20 1 mana for 3 damage spells. I feel it gives me good odds when in top deck mode.
