i have a lot of soldier related suggestions and i'm going to ignore costs.
first of all, get rid of the Veteran Armorsmith s and the Veteran Swordsmith s. you can get FAR better creatures for those slots.
i'd play 4 Field Marshal s, as the +1/+1 effects stacks, and he is always a good card to play.
Hero of Bladehold is a damn good card, but unfortunately she does not count as a soldier, if you want to keep this mroe tribal, you may want to cut her out too, don't worry though, there are far scarier soldier type creatures than her, especially in a deck like this. perhaps Kjeldoran Outpost can help to replace her, if you keep your mana costs low, when you run you run out of cards in hand you can always choose to pump out soldiers from your lands instead. remember that you can sacrifice a plains that you have already tapped for mana. with the low cmc of these cards it shouldn't be too much of an issue. alternatively, card:Militia's Pride can trigger for EACH creature you declare as attacking, and does something similar. i'd even consider replacing Raise the Alarm with them.
Boros Recruit is perhaps a better one drop than Elite Vanguard , depending on what your friends play, sometimes first striking for 1 is better than trading creatures, plus he will get pumped like crazy with your other cards, including Honor of the Pure
Captain of the Watch is a little bitch compared to Daru Warchief .
those are all the good soldiers i can think of for now.

Wowzers. Those are awesome! I like the idea of dumping mana late game to crank harder too!! Thank you so much!

there are a lot of ways you can do this deck up, good luck :D

Agreed... Time to start collecting soldiers again. Tee hee.

Okay. Serious rebuild has started. Out with all the Veteran Armorsmith, Veteran Swordsmith, and Cenn's Tactician. I just realized this is an old list too... I'm going to take out my non basic lands, because they only weaken Armored Ascension and annoy me with their "enters tapped." I'm torn, though about putting cavern of souls in. All of my buddies have started playing control, so I may sideboard them, but running them in the maindeck of a mono-color deck feels stupid.
In go Thraben Valiant, Mentor of the Meek, Field Marshal, and Daru Warchief. Also I will find a place for at least 2 Militia's Pride.
Sometime this week, I'll be putting up the most current build.

you could also use Champion of the Parish if you decide to use more human soldiers. Flagstones of Trokair can help decrease the number of lands in your library. i have a similar deck called deck:champion-of-the-soldiers
May 6, 2012 11:48 a.m.
ohh. and i forgot Ranger of Eos for one mana drops like Champion of the Parish (if you decide to use him) and Elite Vanguard
May 6, 2012 11:50 a.m.
Champion of the Parish will go in as well. Dang, he's always the one I forget about. So good in here. I'm leaning more towards soldiers than humans. One of my buddies has four or five human decks, and they are amazing, so I'll let him build those.
I'm wondering about Ranger of Eos. Yes he's cool, yes he's decently priced, but if I'm only pulling my Elite Vanguard and Champion of the Parish, is he worth it? He would be a fourth turn hand refill, which this deck has had trouble refilling the hand. He would almost fill the same hole the Mentor of the Meek would. Mmmmm... Must do more research. Great suggestion too, because he's a soldier bodied 3/2 that brings in two creatures same turn, or turn after, which would help me against board wipes as well, and maintain momentum.

there is also Midnight Duelist for vampire decks and it is a one drop.

If you want to fight control I would think Brave the Elements or card:Faith's Shield wouldn't go amiss since they could block unsummons, kill, and burn spells.
Also, since it's a mono deck it'll be able to get things out mid-game that a multi-color deck would only get late-game, like the Godhead of Awe and the Nobilis of War . Especially since most of your creatures are 1/1 or 2/2 anyway, and with all the little bumps you give them with the Captain of the Watch it could be a deadly combo?

Also, card:Faith's Fetters would be good against creatures with pesky activated abilities, but it does have a converted mana cost of 4. A bit high, but worth considering.

One combo I've always wanted to try is mixing Eternity Vessel with Ruin Ghost . You'd be UNSTOPPABLE!!!
June 11, 2012 3:46 p.m.
Haha, Very nice. I do want to keep it soldiers, mostly out of tradition. The cards I had previously used instead of card:Faith's Fetters were Swords to Plowshares and Path to Exile . Pacifism can also be amazing.
I haven't met many decks where activated abilities came into play. And any deck that couldn't win in 5-6 turns usually fell to the previous versions of this deck.
Brave the Elements and card:Faith's Shield are both going to go under careful consideration though. I love that they're both super cheap instants, and late game I usually have mana kicking around unspent, and no one would expect those to drop late game. I really like them!

If you want to keep it soldiers, might I just suggest replacing the Thraben Valiant with the Elite Inquisitor.

You could also add Spirit Mantle in order to pump your soldiers while waiting for Armored Ascension .
June 15, 2012 2:21 a.m.
I think that's also a really good idea. I got a full playset of Elite Inquisitor and the Thraben Valiant s came out. I wish that that beautiful art had gone on a better creature.
I think two of the Spirit Mantle and 2-4 Ghostly Possession s will have to go in the deck. There are just way too many good white enchantments to make a soldier deck with only soldiers and land.

I know it's supposed to be a soldier deck but I'm going to say it anyway. If you want to fight control Grand Abolisher is incredible. Even just for the sideboard to sub in if you come up against control. A suggestion that does fit with the soldiers is Odric, Master Tactician . He is basically a win condition.
August 2, 2012 10:47 p.m.
Odric, Master Tactician and Crusader of Odric are on my list to pick up. So is one or two of Intrepid Hero .
And Grand Abolisher , Fiend Hunter , and Leonin Relic-Warder have all come up on my radar. I'm seriously contemplating them.
August 4, 2012 6:20 a.m.
An additional asset to Grand Abolisher would be Swiftfoot Boots. Hast and hex proof for a low mana cost making him or anyone else on your team a lot harder to get rid of. Ring of Thune can be pretty handy too.

In place of Elite Vanguard you could run Dryad Militant , you have no way of accessing your grave so it can hose most graveyard strategies while being basically the same thing as Elite Vanguard in every other respect.
August 18, 2013 11:25 p.m.
Somebody else brought up Dryad Militant just the other night, and I think it's a really good idea. I'm a little disappointed that my Elite Vanguard just dropped in price though. Definitely time to get an upgrade.
I like the ideas of Door of Destinies and Coat of Arms but Thalia, Guardian of Thraben is here. That being said, both of those carry the same theme as the Cathars' Crusade that I have sitting in the same box. It's worth a shot.
