Bloodghast gives me a chump blocker or just a quick 2 damage gnarlicide

Bloodghast is an awesome card, no doubt. I used him in the original deck of mine. My problem was that I only needed 3 lands to go off and the ghast doesnt count as a casting. Neither does Dregscape Zombie s unearth ability, but he at least has synergy with Gravecrawler .
Honestly, the version that I run is more of a personal preference. I get a lot of shit from other players for having slither head and dregscape zombie in the deck over bloodghast and loam. But I have had great results with it. And in the end, that what mattered to me.
Quirky suggestions like mine can be written off... like I said, its just personal preference at this point.
Whats funny about this particular archetype is that it can go nuts on turn 3. I pulled it off in my "win and in" match at my shop. turn 3, dregscape zombie, into 2x gravecrawlers, chaining 4 vengevines. Dude had a bob to block and liliana out.
needless to say, he got owned. This deck also has a tendency to get hated out a lot. So just play it locally every few weeks. Otherwise, you will just have an aggravating time.

I'll definitely playtest with the dregscapes gnarlicide

gnarlicide after intensive playtesting I dropped the Birds of Paradise for Slitherhead as it gives me a 1-drop, is a zombie to cast Gravecrawler and has the scavenge for utility in the grave

Nice. Good Choice. I am glad that worked out for you.
I am telling you, dredge vine is a blast to play. You will like it in a tournament setting.
Just a thought, though. If players in your area play a ton of Blood Moon
, graveyard hate (Deathrite Shaman
does not really count, he's kill-able) or Urza Tron, you might have a bad time. Everything I can do with a sideboard, does nothing against the grave hate that occasionally happens.
I hope you enjoy the deck though, good vibes and good luck.

Thanks man, I was gonna work on the sideboard and have 3 Nature's Claim as it deals with graveyard hate artifacts and enchanments and also Blood Moon . Thanks for all the help gnarlicide!!

No problem bro. I have been playing this deck for a couple months now off and on. I am happy to help anyone venturing into an archetype that I am familiar with.

Oh another question gnarlicide if I have a Stinkweed Imp and Golgari Thug can I dredge 9 and return bot the Imp and Thug to my hand? In other words can I stack dredge triggers?

gnarlicide says... #11
Not during your draw step. You can only do 1. BUT, if you had both in the graveyard and cast, say, Faithless Looting you can replace the drawing triggers. That's why in my version I have the burning inquiries and the goblin lore. Also, when you dredge, some players get mad if you don't name the dredge target before you start flipping cards over. Be sure to do that.
Also, if you decide to run Darkblast , you can do it twice. Once after you untap your lands as a response, and another time after your draw step, like dredge it back to your hand. Not very many people know that one and it can kill things like death rite shaman.

Yeah I knew about the Faithless Looting instance I just didn't know if you could stack it, THANKS! And ill be sure to name my dredger!

You probably already know this, but fetch lands work amazing with Bloodghast . Also, people will typically use Raven's Crime with Life from the Loam , even in this type of deck.

Fauna Shaman works well in a deck like this. Discard Vengevine or Bloodghast to tutor up a one drop to recur Vine...
Deathrite Shaman would also work well here.
The lone Bolt is meh, IMO.
Some sideboard cards to consider:
Gnaw to the Bone vs Aggro.
Pithing Needle naming Tormod's Crypt or Relic of Progenitus
Ancient Grudge can be used twice and Flashback from the Yard. Also Ray of Revelation . I prefer this over Nature's Claim , which is useless in the Graveyard.
My take on Dredgevine:

Add 4x Ancient Grudge to your sideboard. Even if you dredge it into your graveyard, you can still cast it with the flashback cost.
Also look into maybe 3 Abrupt Decay in the sideboard to take care of the enchantments. Unless you feel ballsy, then you can just throw in 4 Ray of Revelation in your sideboard and only be able to cast them from your graveyard. Actually, I might do that. The flashback cost is green, so it could work.

Fetch Lands are expensive, I have access to one which I plan to use, and hopefully acquire more along the way. Raven's Crime is definitely nice with Life from the Loam but I don't think it'll fit in this deck, maybe a sideboard against combo deck though!

Thanks gnarlicide as always! aeonstoremyliver as for the mainboard I am pretty happy, it stacks up well against my meta but the sideboard ideas with all the stuff usable in the graveyard is great! Definitely added!

+1, I like it.
I'm not too familiar with this archetype, but I do prefer Guttural Response for sure.
Also fetchlands might help with your Bloodghast , but they're expensive and this deck focuses on Vengevine .
I would advocate for more removal possibly. That said, it looks like this deck is more passive and uses cards like Gnaw to the Bone to make up for life loss--if this works reliably, you might not need the removal.
Anyways, how's it been doing so far? These are just some thoughts, but it looks pretty solid as is. Is Pithing Needle working well for you?

emask This deck has been working quite well, haven't taken it to any FNMs (But I plan to) but against friends and the like it works amazingly! Pithing Needle is very versatile, if they play an unequipped Cranial Plating (Affinity obviously) I can play the Pithing Needle naming the Cranial Plating and they'll never be able to equip it. It is also good at shutting down Splinter Twin

I like the needle too, glad it's been working!
Reason I ask is because sometimes I find a card that does the same/similar job, but better. Right now I've had lots of luck with Ghostly Prison for Affinity and Splinter. Haven't been using my needles too much, but love the synergy it has with some of my own critters so will probably keep it. It's also just one mana which is a super efficient answer to things like Planeswalkers.
I know Prison isn't in your colours, but wonder if there are any other cards that could do the needle's job (at least in the matchups you use it for), but better?
Anyways, I like the deck. I think the needle is great, just throwing out thoughts!

Congrats man. I hope it works out well for you. Best of luck. Mine gets hated out of my shop with tron on occasion, so I swap between dredge vine and dead guy.

Dead Guy is extremely fun to play gnarlicide, I've played it online put it's generally a legacy deck which is a little expensive for a 16 yr old!

gnarlicide says... #24
It is expensive, even for a 28 year old with a family. I teched it out for modern play. I can swap out about 9 cards and be legacy ready, those cards were expensive! Now I am working on Jund in legacy and modern
December 27, 2013 11:43 p.m.
It is expensive unfortunately. Trading and ebay helps if you're lucky sometimes. I love Bloodghast so I'm happy to see it here and I've always been intrigued by Dredge... You guys are tempting me to join the Jund side...
gnarlicide says... #1
Drop birds of paradise, and add 4x Dregscape Zombie . The creature itself is pretty worthless, but if you unearth him, you would have a zombie in play to cast your crawlers.
I have a deck a lot like this, maybe check it out.
Angry Mob Justice (tournament report)
Bloodghast doesn't like to hang out in this deck... Maybe the blue version, but not this one.
Also, have you thought about Slitherhead ? It's actually pretty funny in here.
