I need feedback on this deck, please help me out and comment if you can!
Ideally, mana ramp up with cheap fodder into an early Mycoloth OR Beastmaster Ascension, or even just Cathars' Crusade, while building up board presence with
Nest Invader
s and Kozilek's Predators. Then either eat everything and protect Mycoloth and myself long enough to drop Cathars' Crusade or do that in the opposite order, or run through the opponent's defenses early with beastmaster ascension. Fog can be used offensively for beastmaster ascension counters OR to protect from damage for 1 turn if you eat eveything on your side of the field.
some neat effects: the many ways I can get 0/1 eldrazi's is nice for two reasons. I can use them to pump up beastmaster or as fodder for mycoloth, and if I have Fecundity out it serves as an extra mana AND card draw every turn, which can be really nice at times.
If you get mycoloth out AT ALL while cathar's crusade is out it will exponentially grow, correct me if I'm wrong. I'm banking on drawing a LOT of protection, which I think I have nailed down pretty well. I like
Cloudshift
because it protects against tons of different things and ALSO assuming mycoloth has had a chance to spit out tokens, it lets him eat them all over again and potentially double or more in size. I have counter protection in my sideboard, which I will discuss below.
Also, the tutor Congregation at Dawn is SO nice, I have very situational cards and that could let me draw into my needed removal Reclamation Sage, big hitter (mycoloth), or more mana ramp guys. I can even tutor up a lot of life gain with Essence Warden, but by the time my life gain really kicks in I will have a hell of an offense anyways so I'm considering taking out the dude altogether (there's only 1 now, I figure I only need one because I might be able to tutor it in a pinch.)
I recognize there's a bit more power than I need, I could win many turns earlier without all of my big hitters, but the token generation etc is a pretty nice defense and I like the fact that I have more than one "ace in the hole" assuming I have creatures on the field. It also makes it kind of fun though; if I know I am ahead by a lot and want to just CRUSH the opponent and deal hundreds or thousands of damage, that's feasible and even common by turn 7-10.
I've played with a deck similar to this made up of what I already have, but before I go buy cards for it I would like some input as to new card suggestions, or suggestions for numbers of cards to have in there. Everything has its place right now and I'm having trouble getting rid of cards, I know I should shave 2 off but I've already cut so much.
I also sideboarded some anti-counter, anti-blue stuff literally just out of spite for playing against blue. Guttural Response and Dragonlord Dromoka are pretty much an unexpected slap in the face to decks that rely on counters, and I can keep drokoma on the battlefield using
Cloudshift
or Vines of Vastwood. I've always had trouble playing against blue in a deck similar to this one, based on mycoloth and beastmaster but with less of them cause, well, no money. Literally my idea with my sideboard is just screw blue I hate it and I don't want to lose to it in this deck. I'm half considering tossing in a few
Circle of Protection: Blue
s, not sure yet, and it probs wouldn't be worth it since I don't run a lot of white. Sidenote: I love playing with my blue decks, I love the color but just lose to it so often.
Should I add another Fecundity or two? I realize this helps the opponent if their creatures are dying but my plan is basically to avoid attacking and generate excess blockers, until I can obliterate them all at once with either a huge army numbers wise, or by making my guys super pumped up. It just turns extra eldrazi into cards for me, which as I mentioned is nice. Speaking of which, I REALLY want to put more Awakening Zones in but don't know where to make room for it.
The tempo seems about right in a playtest, but I'm not sure how accurate of a gauge that is since I don't have monsters or spells flying at me constantly.
Also, this is the first deck I've ever put here and I don't have money for super expensive cards, so I just need ideas for now. I made a similar deck in MTG 2015 the game and it wrecked. SO here we go I guess? If you can give me any kind of feedback I'd really appreciate it!
Also sidenote: Maybe someday this could be modern worthy? I've wanted to get into modern for a really long time but it's so expensive. Anyways, sorry for the essay, and thanks!
Last thing. As much as I would love a Doubling Season, it's like 60 dollars, so I'm going to pass. I recommend it if you can afford it, but I don't have any planeswalkers in this deck yet, and cathar's crusade pumps up mycoloth or any other token generators enough for my needs. It would work well with beastmaster ascension as you would only need to attack with four creatures to activate it.
noble heirarch
would be an awesome replacement for my mana elves, but it's expensive as well and my elves do just fine for now. If I make this a casual deck (that's what I would mainly use it for) I would probably toss in
Sterling Grove
