I would replace the Court Hussar with Anticipate

I actually discovered Hussar through the Thesaurus on Mythic Spoiler while looking at Anticipate.

Court Hussar becomes infinitely better than Anticipate with HS on the field, but the opposite without HS.

I plan on testing it out though regardless. Either one is probably a definite in the deck.

Mind if I ask why you stopped running Spoils of the Vault?

When playtesting there was many times where despite the amount of deck thinning I had, I still ended up killing myself. Combine that with any damage that I would take and it just turns out it's not usable. It's a a high risk high reward card, and it really shows, even this deck can't keep up with it.

Not only that but often times I'll have ended up exiling things that could give me a good amount of dig (like a Haruspex and a few artifacts).

Have you thought about Taigam's Scheming i know it costs 1U instead of just U and it has no draw, but it lets you dig for five and if u got only one retriever you could put the secondone straight into the graveyard and start comboing.

I was really considering it when it came out, but the fact it doesn't actually draw you any cards is the reason I'll never run it. In its place Anticipate is just better (still need to test though).

It's a good card, but I don't think it'll ever see Modern play for the above reason.

Telling Time might be better than Anticipate, but I think it all just boils down to personal preference.

I ruled out Telling Time since it's two mana, completely forgot about it when considering Anticipate. I kind of think Anticipate is better for this type of deck though.

But despite eveything I think Court Hussar is better than both of them for the deck.

If you splash red, you have the possibility of a TURN 1 WIN!!! I have a deck like this, instead its 3 colored and a bit less consistent :/

all you need is 4x Simian Spirit Guide to win. turn one play land and exile spiritguide to play Heartless Summoning. Play one Myr Moonvessel into Altar of the Brood and combo off. Its really kind of funny pulling it off, and if you could check out my deck and maybe give me suggestions, that would be great! its called 3-Colored Combos (Help Please?)

I've never been a fan of decks that run Spirit Guide for gimmicky quick wins. In the end it's just a worse Lotus Petal. Speed is what this deck does best, improving that aspect of it isn't necessary anymore, consistency while preserving speed is what the main focus of improving it is now.

As for your deck, I personally didn't find much success with Transmute. It ups the consistency of your deck for sure, but it also slows it down by a ton. Taking them out for digging spells is the way to go, even moreso with your deck than mine. In a lot of storm decks you often don't care what you draw into, just so long as you draw into something at all. Maximize your card advantage as much as you can.

@SandwichMan007 The problem with running Simian Spirit Guide is that he is entirely useless other than the turn 1-2 wins and he otherwise reduces the consistency of the deck.

March 24, 2015 4:21 p.m.

Lol I know. Just thought it would be kinda fun :P

I know I love seeing my opponents face when I do that!

March 24, 2015 4:38 p.m.

How do you deal with Leyland of the Void? Someone boarded that in on me recently and it became a derpy slugfest as I had to pretend I was playing Havengul Lich for aggro purposes. He was running a slow mill deck, so I ended up getting remarkably close for how badly he hosed my strategy... I guess I'm not sure off the top of my head what enchantment hate UB gets.

March 27, 2015 4:19 p.m.

Quail says... #14

UB has zero Enchantment hate, isn't in their color pie.

That being said, in the unlikely event that someone would have that in their side, I would side in the cards that switch the deck to an Aggro deck like Superions and Wurmcoil Engines.

So you'd have to play two Myr Retrievers in order for the turn 2 win to work?

March 30, 2015 7:02 a.m.

Zaquill says... #16

when myr retriever dies, can it return himself in play? im confused because it says you may return "another" target artifact.

April 2, 2015 1:38 p.m.

Quail says... #17

You need two Retrievers for the combo to work, one must be in your graveyard already when the second one dies.

1 problem that I see; if you have 2 Grim Haruspex out when you do your mill combo you will draw your deck faster than you will mill your opponent. In other words, each time they mill their top card, you'll draw 2 cards and will effectively be unable to win.

Of coarse, this can be prevented by not playing 2 Grim Haruspex at once, but maybe you should reduce the amount of Grim Haruspex just so they don't become dead draws after you get your first one.

Penga says... #19

Don't get the wrong idea; I really like this deck, not only because it lets me use cheap cards I've had sitting around doing nothing (Grim Haruspex, Heartless Summoning, and Altar of the Brood) but because I love combo decks and how I can always find areas of improvement. Trust me, no matter what netdecks catch my eye, there is always something I'll do differently.

Overall, great job!

This deck is definitely worthy of my +1 :)

Definitely think a good choice would be to replace Perilous Myr with Muddle the Mixture. Mixture can be used to protect the combo once it's played, or to fetch Myr Retriever and Heartless Summoning, its basically a counterspell that also acts as Retriever/Summoning 5-8, depending on which you need to finish the combo

April 6, 2015 10:41 a.m.

Khaosknight says... #21

Maybe not replace him, as I playtest I see why he's there. But I still feel Muddle the Mixture could add some consistency to the combo

April 6, 2015 1:02 p.m.

lemmingllama says... #22

@Penga You can kill the Grim Haruspexs using Perilous Myr, or also you can play Altar of the Broods for free using Myr Moonvessels. It is highly unlikely that you will ever draw yourself out.

April 6, 2015 2:08 p.m.

Quail says... #23

Grim Haruspex can always be dealt with, be it with additional Altars or killing them off.

Muddle The Mixture was in a very early stage of the deck. I found that it was too slow to spend all of turn 3 and still not guarantee a win the next few turns. Improving the engines in the deck is the best way to make the deck better.

April 6, 2015 4:19 p.m.

Khaosknight says... #24

I'm sure you know more about this deck than I do, but have you considered losing one draw spell, mainboarding a single Myr Superion And Muddle the Mixture in place of Grim Haruspex?

It opens up several interactions and let's you play muddle the mixture to either get a combo piece, or fetch a free 4/5 beater.

April 6, 2015 6:07 p.m.

Quail says... #25

As I stated in my last post, Muddle is just too slow.

Superions are very good, and would be sided in against certain matchups, but they don't help the goal of the deck so isn't worth running in the mainboard.
