I would say alternate of alter of brood is Impact Tremor because if you are playing against torn or other cards that shuffle back into library will make you lose so use Impact Tremor to win and deal damage

Altar is the best win-con for the deck due to the fact it is the cheapest and can be tutored for with Trinket Mage if the player desires to run it and can be Retrieved from the graveyard if necessary. Against decks running Emrakul Surgical Extraction can be sideboarded in (I'm considering making a build that mainboards them along with Bitter Ordeals).

You could also possibly use transfigure for added call to field.
February 3, 2016 7:12 a.m.
Do you mean Fleshwrither? It doesn't really fetch anything relevant and is pretty expensive.

http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Search/Default.aspx?action=advanced&text=+[Transmute] for tranmute referances.
Sorry if there's external link rule i am not following and would not do so again if there is.

Transmute was a mechanic I utilized in old versions of the deck. Tutors are very slow for this deck given it needs 4 pieces to work. For that reason, for a tutor to make the cut it would need to have a high impact on the game such as Jarad's Orders or Gifts Ungiven.
I'm experimenting with Sidisi, Undead Vizier currently to enable death triggers without Heartless Summoning on the field.

I think this deck should shed a lot a lot of the random cards like perilous myr Thought knotO sowerCulling daisGrim harupex I'd add blue Serum visionsMaybe 2 muddle the mixture sir its flexibility Thirst for knowledge Playing a thin trinket package could be done with Explosive Nihil spellbombPitching needle Grafdiggers EtcJust suggestions
February 5, 2016 3:53 a.m.
This isn't the actual list of the deck, I was just fiddling with things. Also Perilous Myrs are never coming out. Free removal is great and chaining them with Retrievers is very powerful, especially with a Haruspex on the field.
Thought-Knot I'm testing out because I want to slow the deck down a little bit to up consistency when Heartless Summonings aren't drawn. Likely will drop the Eldrazi sub-theme, Thought-Knots are amazing but dedicating support for just them isn't worth it.
Serum Visions is usually in the deck but I wanted to try a build that dropped blue (I'm not a big fan of it, not running blue that is).
Muddle is just too slow and won't make the cut.
Basically everything that doesn't combo that's in the deck right now it likely temporary.
February 5, 2016 8:36 a.m.
Also Trinket Mage is always a high contender for spots in builds in this deck. His utility is pretty great. Likely if I go the control route he'll be at least a 1 of in the deck.
I'd like to know if anyone has any suggestions for mill cards that are actually decent and provide more utility than just milling. The only decent card I can really think of is Thought Scour which is okaaaaay but not amazing. I'm asking since I figured I could take advantage of Surgical Extraction in the mainboard. Against Tron it's auto-forefit game 1 if it isn't in the deck. So if anyone has any suggestions with that I'm all ears.
Another card I think might be good to utilize is Bitter Ordeal. It already serves as a decent win-con for the deck when you go infinite and would have been the go-to win-con if Altar of the Brood didn't exist. But even not as a win-con it can still provide an insane amount of utility I think. Even being able to exile all copies of Eldrazi Temple or Siege Rhinos can significantly slow down a deck. The problem with the card overall is that it doesn't work very well without Heartless Summoning, much like the rest of the deck.
As always the biggest weakness of the deck is it not really doing anything without Heartless Summoning on the field. I've tried experiments with Serum Powder on Tappedout playtest and from what I've seen it helps a little, but I'm not sure if it's enough, especially with it not helping at all in the actual deck. I also don't think the Tappedout deck ordering algorithm is all there, so it's probably pretty unreliable. I just got MTGO so I'll probably try some testing out there soon and clean this deck up.

Tron has been cutting Emrakul, the Aeons Torn from their decks for Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger. So the matchup is much more winnable than it previously was.
That being said, I still normally beat Tron with the weenie beatdown or Havengul Lich flinging Perilous Myrs whenever I don't get the combo. Tron is actually turning into a decent matchup if you can stick an early Heartless Summoning or a lot of Myrs.
Now for mill cards. There really aren't any outside of Hedron Crab that would be very interesting. You can use it to make lands useful in the late game if you need to dig for a piece. Although Taigam's Scheming is likely a better overall card if you want the self mill plan.
February 5, 2016 12:20 p.m.
I think I'm going to drop the self mill plan since it still doesn't really help with the major weakness of not getting a Heartless Summoning out, it actually makes it harder. Upsetting too since Golgari Thug has a lot of interesting interactions with the deck. I was trying to figure out a way to make Sun Titan or Obzedat's Aid to work in the deck, but they're just too expensive I think.
As far as mainboarding the Extractions, I was planning on trying them out even despite Emrakul. How this deck works is incredibly solitaire. Making use of Altar of the Broods outside of the win-con I think could greatly improve the deck. Much like Bitter Ordeal, hitting an important non-land playset of a deck could potentially be pretty powerful. Thoughtseize or Inquisition of Kozilek would also be good with Extraction, but I don't really think they might be great in the deck.

I personally run two Surgical Extraction in the sideboard, since they are normally only relevant against combo decks and Tron. There are a lot of matchups that they are dead in, especially since the meta is moving towards a more aggressive front.
Bitter Ordeal is one that I love, but I am constantly disappointed in it while playtesting. It just costs too much to be viable.
Inquisition of Kozilek is one that I really think helps this deck against BGx and Control (which is much less present) while also being useful against aggro decks. Taking away their ways to remove your Heartless Summoning means you only need one. Although I do like your inclusion of Culling Dais as a way to find the summoning and get those death triggers.
February 5, 2016 1:59 p.m.
Maybe with Snapcaster support Surgical Extraction could be more useful, just revolve around a strategy that removes all useful cards from your opponent's deck, that's basically the thing I'm going for.
Culling Dias is neat and has decent synergy with Retrievers, but it's ultimately too slow. I was mainly using it for Matter Reshaper, but it's actually a pretty unplayable card.

Hello,I got the last Version of your deck(without Eldrazi) in real life, and did some playtesting with it.Against slower Matchups, it's really strong, but Aggro is always a 50/50. When Summonings sticks, I do a lot better, but drawing into it seems hard. The only way to search for it cheaply is Muddle the Mixture, which i didn't try, but could be too slow. After Sideboarding or against Processor Eldrazi, a Turn 1 Relic seems to be GG almost every time, unless they burn it easily on some Flashback. I tried sabotage of steel (MBS) and Surgical Extraction, but they were too situational.I really like the Theme of your old deck, sacrificing and Looping the Myr, serum Visions and the Probes fits the dark theme of Myr and New Phyrexia. With the flaws noted above though, I highly doubt that the deck will reach a high competitive Level. Feel free to publish some new Ideas, I will certainly try them out, I didn't get the new version because of 40$ Eye of Ugin. Good Deck!
February 8, 2016 7:25 a.m.
Have you looked as Ashnod's Altar as a compliment to Heartless Summoning? While not as good it does get the combo going.
February 9, 2016 6:34 p.m.
CruelMyr yeah the current version of the deck is kind of ass. Going with cantrips like Serum Visions and Sleight of Hand is the way to go for focusing on comboing. I just wanted to see how Eldrazi worked out, but it's pretty lackluster.
alwaysafk Ashnod's Altar is not legal in Modern.
February 9, 2016 6:40 p.m.
If you're going the combo route, Mulldrifter. Draws cards, is a creature that dies (and triggers Grim Haruspex) AND the evoke cost is reduced by heartless summoning. And yes, Muddle the Mixture is slow, but it can grab any of Culling Dais + Heartless Summoning + Myr Retriever . With so many Eldrazi decks running around, you could even grab a one-off Painter's Servant, too. And being a counterspell is pretty nice against the control mirror.
Undead Alchemist would make your Altar of the Brood INCREDIBLY punishing to creature heavy decks. Plus Havengul Lich and Sidisi, Undead Vizier are already Zombies. If you want to include Trinket Mage in there, having multiple Altars becomes a possibility. Against a deck that's half creatures, double altars makes for an average of 5 cards milled (and 2.5 zombies) per permanent you put into play. Best of all, none of this needs heartless summoning to function.
However, there's another direction you could take this instead: Athreos, God of Passage. Imagine turning all your Perilous Myrs into Lava Axes. Suddenly Matter Reshaper is one of the best value cards in modern. The Myr Retriever loop now reads "Return all artifacts to your hand". Golgari Thug does even dumber things than it did before. Falkenrath Noble becomes quite the value proposition. Sun Titan becomes viable again. Seriously though. 4 free Lava Axes. It's stupid.

I say all this because I was working on a similar deck that used the Undead Alchemist / Altar combo myself: Artifactory
Let me know if you want any advice on what I ran and how it worked out.
February 25, 2016 9:31 p.m.
Most of the cards you listed work pretty decently in this deck, but a lot of them are only good in a vacuum.
This deck as it stands isn't in the greatest place (which is why I haven't deck cycled it in months). I'm aware of nearly every card that can synergize with the archetype, what I need to work on is consistency.
Likely for that to happen I need to work on the control aspect. Probably throw in Remands and maybe Spell Pierces.
Mainly I'd like to develop control off of Altar of the Brood which is why I'm really interested in Surgical Extraction to remove key pieces of the decks I'm up against. Thoughtseize is also another possible addition.
I'm not really focused on this deck right now (Shadows over Innistrad might give this deck something new, so until then I'm not really going to update it).
