You may want to update your deck by removing Eye of Ugin. It's been banned.

Yeah I'll get around to it when I'm gonna update the deck fully. Been focusing more on EDH lately.

Thoughts lemmingllama?

I'm thinking Muddle the Mixture/Shred Memory might not be too bad now with both pieces of the Thopter Sword combo being tutorable and the combo allowing the game to extend out greatly.

Actually, this seems pretty solid. I'm not sold on Thought Scour over Serum Visions, but the thopter combo slots into here really well.

Also I'd say that adding Muddle the Mixture could work since it also gives you protection.

The only thing I'm a bit worried about is that your thopter tokens will die with Heartless Summoning out. Once you resolve a Heartless Summoning, you are all in on the combo and the Thopter Sword is just a useless topdeck at that point.

I'm liking Thought Scour for the graveyard filling, essentially the graveyard will become a toolbox between Golgari Thugs and Retrievers. I'd like a little more power shifted towards it though, possibly another Dredge card like Darkblast or one of the cards I have in the maybeboard.

The Foundrys do become fairly useless after a HS is on the field, but I'd say by that point you're probably set up to win the game anyway. The great thing is with something like this is you probably don't need to drop HS right away and can grind on the Thopter Sword combo for some value while setting up Haruspex's, etc. I also believe that the thopters produced will still trigger Altar of the Brood, which isn't too relevant but still might matter. A single Falkenrath Noble (the original win-con to the deck) also could prove useful.

From testing I quite like the direction the deck is headed, Codex Shredders are a little lackluster though. I think I might try out some Mesmeric Orbs, helps fill the graveyard while also affecting the opponent and puts a little deterence on aggressive strategies.

Very true. The introduction of a value plan outside of the Myr Beatdown plan is something that strengthens the deck. I might have to test it out in my deck too, probably as a 3/2 split.

And Codex Shredder seems a bit too pricey for a Regrowth effect. I'd probably want to run Noxious Revival over it. Mesmeric Orb does great work as a millstone though.

No artifact tutors?

Turn 2 win: is this real? when Myr dies you have to choose "another" target artifact, does this work?

April 26, 2016 9:42 a.m.

Frayace says... #10

sorgul, you need 2 Myr Retrievers, and they return each other.

Quail says... #11

@Mindgrind Tutors are kind of slow for the deck, with Thopter Sword being unbanned though the deck might be able to sacrifice some speed now. Still testing things out but I might run Shred Memory.

Still think Athreos, God of Passage is a viable pick in the deck, especially since you're already running the flooded strands for the white mana.

I haven't playtested this new iteration, but I feel like there's gotta be a better combo finisher than Altar of the Brood, now. If it milled for both players, it could help your self-mill strategy, but right now it's doing nothing for you until you have the combo set up (Which is usually on what, turn 5 or 6 now?). Aren't there any suitable combo finishers that actually do things while you're setting it up, like Bridge from Below or something?

I also agree with lemmingllama, Codex Shredder seems really expensive for what you're looking for. If you're going for the self mill, get Grinding Station instead, for shenanigans with Sword of the Meek, if you're going for the regrowth effect, Noxious Revival is a good bet.

I don't like Athreos in this deck, and I don't like him much as a card either. He could work in some sort of Mardu build that focuses on burn, but my plan for this deck is strictly combo and possibly a bit of control. Athreos doesn't contribute enough to the main strategies of the deck and is its own separate win-con I don't think would be great to pursue.

Altar of the Brood is single handedly the best win-con for the deck period. With shifting away from hyperspeed draw however, I think I can reduce the amount I run to 2-3 now though.

As for Codex Shredders, yeah I don't like them much as I stated, and I had Noxious Revival on the Maybeboard when this new list went live. Gravepower is key for this deck, and I think once I figure out how to utilize it optimally the deck will be pretty good I think.

What about Mishra's Bauble for some easy free card draw? Should give you a higher chance of quickly finding what you're looking for.

Quail says... #15

I've tried using Mishra's Bauble in the past and it doesn't do so well. It only works in a super speedy deck (too prone to never getting the combo) and even then it isn't great since it doesn't draw you a card until the next turn. I'm currently trying out Gitaxian Probe as my free draw power, it synergizes very well with Golgari Thug. I think more than 2 copies might be overdoing it.

underhand designs from kaladesh as a secondary win con?

October 2, 2016 8:07 a.m.

Quail says... #17

@Hilko1988 Very expensive card that doesn't bring anything new to the table as well as there being strictly better options.

Hmm.. awesome combo! Running a modern dredge deck atm. I can get about half my deck in the gy around turn two. I like the idea of toying with Bridge from Below (Infinite zombs) and Tangleroot (infinite green mana) as well!

Not a turn 2 win. The Myr does not see himself when he dies.

Glad to see you're still working on this. I've been following this deck for over a year or so.

June 10, 2018 7:29 p.m.

Quail says... #22

@razur I come back to it now and then, but still unsure where the real best direction to go with it is. The new cantripping artifact creature coming out in M19 could be a big addition to the deck.

Da_Zorret says... #23

How do you stop the Grim Haruspex from milling yourself?

July 16, 2019 5:08 p.m.

Quail says... #24

@Da_Zorret you can drop another Heartless Summoning to kill them. Previous versions of the deck ran Perilous Myr s which could be used to kill them.

I haven't worked on the deck seriously in quite some time. With Modern Horizons released the deck might have also gotten some new tools. A damage focused deck running the Perilous Myrs could be viable, especially with things like Vesperlark being around now.

Da_Zorret says... #25

I've following this deck since the very 1st day. I use Perilous Myr because it's a free drop and it can remove some annoying creatures and I went down to 2 copies with Sphinx of Foresight because they always stay in my hand doing nothing. If you ever update the deck, I'll be here
