Continuing my cycle of brokenly powerful commanders is Narset, Enlightened Master. This monster is singlehandedly capable of winning nearly every conceivable matchup just by being able to swing once. A single trigger of her ability will usually hit a least one extra turn / combat phase, which in turn leads to still more, which inevitably leads to yet yet more insanity. Truly a terror to behold.

The deck is designed to capitalize on Narset's sexiness. It's divided into two sections.

The first is the ramp. The deck is built so that, with a skilled mulliganer at the helm, Narset can be cast by turn 3 on average. Turn 2 Narsets and hasty Narsets are also quite common. A god-hand will enable a win on turn 1.

The second section is, of course, devoted to consistently win post-casting. The backbone of its strategy are extra turn and combat phase effects like Time Stretch and Aggravated Assault. There's also a large amount of resource denial built in. Armageddon, Cataclysm, and Decree of Silence effects prevent opponents from responding to Narset should she run out of steam. Jace, the Mind Sculptor and Brainstorm filter juicy targets accidentally drawn back onto the top of the library for Narset to hit. Cards like Strionic Resonator and Mana Severance help Narset dig deeper to find targets, while MS doubles as a backup combo kill with Goblin Charbelcher . A slew of tutors ranging from Long-Term Plans to Tezzeret the Seeker ensure that key cards

Finally, minimalist control and utility round out the list. Grasp of Fate and co help to either remove pesky cards like Nevermore . Force of Will and friends protect Narset from unwanted counters on resolution or shut down opponents from getting their own win conditions out, though typically Narset wins long before any other other has the opportunity to.

There are currently two infinite combos in the deck. The first is Aggrevated Assault + Sword of Feast and Famine. With lands that tap for 3RR, this grants an arbitrary number of combat steps, allowing Narset to kill with commander damage while quickly burning through her own library. The second is Enter the Infinite + beacon of tommorrows. Enter puts the entire library in my hand, save for one card. That one card is, of course, Beacon of Tomorrows. It can be repeatedly cast and shuffled back into the library for an infinite number of turns.

Narset's Face-Wrecking Turn Fest is just one of the ten specialty decks I designed as part of an ongoing project called The Terrifying Ten: Ten fully optimized decks built around the strongest* Commanders in each of the shard and wedge colors. They're not quite balanced, due to Grixis, Naya, and Mardu not having any truly "Broken" commanders, but the decks can still be pitted against each other for fun, relatively fair matches. I urge you take a look at all of them when you get the chance and comment with feedback and suggestions!

Esper: Zur's Proxied Parade of Pain

Grixis: deck: now-watch-me-whip-now-watch-me-trai-trai

Jund: Live long and Prosshper

Naya: Marath of the Titans

Bant: deck: derevi-and-brago-the-romance-of-the-millennium

Abzan: Karadora the Graveyard Explorer

Mardu: I'll Kaalia Back Later

**Temur: Twin Statue Animar

Sultai: Muscle Plasm

*Note that strongest is an opinionated term based on my own experience. Extensive play testing and experimenting was performed prior to the Ten being selected.

**Out of date. The current Animar requires restructuring.

Updates Add

Much like Zur's Proxied Parade of Pain, the Narset list received a massive overhaul to bring in the new year. Gone is the Proteus Staff combo, replaced by critically powerful creatures like Generator Servant and Treasonous Ogre. The deck's Planewalker pile was trimmed down significantly, though it's possible a few may creep back into the deck. Ugin, the Spirit Dragon is especially tempting due to his ability to hit pesky low CMC creatures and enchantments without touching Narset or her artifacts.

On the block after the update:

Tragic Arrogance. It's devastating when used to its full potential, but with the deck's hefty reliance on artifacts, it often does more harm than help.

Decree of Silence. Against inexperienced players, it can spell game over. However, at large tables, it's easy for opponents to gang up and overcome the effect.

Chaos Warp. As mentioned, it's quite potent against Nevermore and Darksteel Mutation effects, as well as to slow down other opponent's plans. However, it feels sub-par, given there's always a chance that an opponent flips an Omniscience or Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite. Considering cutting it in favor of another AoE effect like Austere Command.

Weathered Wayfarer. Being able to pull Cavern of Souls alone is amazing, but all too often I've found myself mulling WW away.
