Nath stax is focused on forced discarding, sacrifice, resource denial, and combos; building a small elf army for mana and defense as the game is being shut down.

Nathlevania incorporates life drain into these strategies, aiming to kill opponents directly with the effects that oppress them.

The Stax

Life drain

Opponents lose life for discarding, drawing, spells, lands, tapping, and well, you get the picture. Nearly everything that happens they'll lose life for. They'll even lose life for (checks notes) ...losing life.

Discarding

This deck uses the discard mechanic to create tokens, which both build ramp and will exacerbate stax effects like sacrifice.

And to cause harm.

The rest

In addition to life drain/tax and forced discarding, this deck also makes lands unusable/spells unplayable, forces opponents to sacrifice creatures, mills their libraries, as well as other punishing effects.

Combos, Combos, Combos

Infinite combos (& other instant wins)

• Exquisite Blood + Sanguine Bond = infinite life gain with infinite life drain

• Bloodchief Ascension + Mindcrank = infinite mill with infinite life drain

• Priest of Titania + Staff of Domination and 3 more elves = infinite mana

  • This creates instant kills with cost life drain effects

  • This works with other elves as well, notably Wirewood Channeler who can create

Life Drain Multiplication

This deck drops opponents to 0 life quickly by draining opponents by a significant amount, and then doubling the damage it does one or more times.

These cards interact with a large majority of the deck and can stack on each other multiple times, so it's hard to list all possible combinations and synergies. Here are a few examples:

• Tree of Perdition + Wound Reflection
• Sorin Markov + Final Punishment
• Fraying Omnipotence + Archfiend of Despair

Technical Victories

As a stax deck, many of its victories are due to opponents quitting the game.

• Nath of the Gilt-Leaf + Sadistic Hypnotist (opponents discard their hands). This combo can sometimes be the simplest way to end the game; on turn 3 (the fastest it can happen in this deck) my opponents are very likely to quit. Alongside Fecundity and Grave Pact they'll have to keep drawing and discarding until their boards are wiped.

• Winter Orb

Gameplay and Winning

Rise of the Dark Realms and a few large demon flyers are the deck's "finishers," once everyone else has (probably much stronger) discarded/sacrificed/milled creatures padding their graveyards. But generally some kind of combo happens before this is necessary to do--usually an infinite combo, huge X-cost spell, or life-drain effect duplicating for hundreds of damage.
