Naya Tokens is a deck Ive been working on after the Pro Tour Shadows over Innistrad and is strongly based on the GW Tokens deck that Steve Rubin piloted to win the event. It has been of the decks that impressed me the most (together with BG Cryptocrats) and I wanted to create my own version all according to my taste :).

I would love to hear all your suggestions and ideas. Lets all make this deck better

The card choices!

Creatures Show

Archangel Avacyn  : At first I hated this card and was like "nah, I dont need it, it will just kill my own stuff". Then I tried it and saw how wrong I was. It is one of the best creatures in standard and deserves a place in this deck. The ability to make your tokens and creatures indestructible is priceless, plus she can sweep the board away and is a great flying attacker. Just nice. For now I only play two. One reason for it is that I only have 2 now, the other that I prefer 2 Silverfur Partisan to combo out with Command. May change in the future, we will see.

Sylvan Advocate: As we all know, this is the best 2 drop in Standard right now (together with the flip Jace I guess, but he seems to have weakened after the rotation). It provides us with a nice 2/3 body with vigilance that can block, attack and stay alive. It is best used to stabilize our board before we are able to flood it with tokens. The pump after hitting the sixth land is a great bonus and I might even consider putting a manland into the deck just to use this cards fullest potential (it would be kinda slow though). All in all a stable 2 drop for almost any deck that runs green.

Hangarback Walker: This card has been a big player inside Hardened Scales decks prior to rotation and lost some of its power since then. Fortunately it finds good use in this deck where it serves as an early attacker/blocker, gets you tokens and can be a bigger threat in the late game. You can always use it together with Dromoka's Command and let it fight to the death with an opponents creature if you really need the tokens (they can block Ormendahl f.e.)

Silverfur Partisan: So this card is the new addition I choose to play for now as I love this card and can do some pretty broken things with it. If we look at the stats, the Partisan is quite unimpressive. A 2/2 body with trample for 2 is nothing special. The effect is what makes this card really good, even in this deck. Firstly, it punishes spot removal. Usually your opponents dont really wanna kill a 2/2 anyway, but many control decks do it because they have the resources and want to stop their opponents to build up their board. Silverfur Partisan makes even control players think twice if they really wanna kill it. If they do, you get a Wolf token which is great. If they dont, you still have the Partisan, which is even better. The other way to use this card is the little combo with Dromoka's Command. You play the Command and target the Partisan to put a counter on him. This makes a Wolf token. Then you target Partisan to fight another creature which also results in a Wolf token. For only 2 mana (5 if you count Partisans casting cost) you have 2 (3 if you count Partisan) new creatures on the battlefield with total of 4 (6) power. And if this doesnt sound great enough just remember that this deck plays Gideon and Nissa whose anthem effects can easily make the wolfes 4/4s the turn they enter the field. I know, its just great. However, even though it is great, I cut the number of Partisans to 2 and am thinking about cutting them all in favour of Archangel Avacyn  . I mean, if I manage to pull out the combo it is nice and it is also feared, but I find myself boarding this card out always (for removal and stuff) which is fine I guess. The question is, if it is worth keeping it if I board it out anyways most of the times (but I will still need to board out something even without playing Partisan). For now 2 are enough, well see how it goes.

Lambholt Pacifist  : The most recent addition would be this guy, or rather girl. She is stronger than a Thraben Inspector and even though she doesnt give you a clue, you can block early annoying attackers, strike hard in the midgame and provides a nice body on the battlefield anytime you play her. It is relatively easy to allow her attack, because just a single Gideon emblem will make her a 4/4 (for 2 mana !!!). I need to test if she really is worth maindecking but i have a good feeling. Also she plays well into our combo with Silverfur Partisan and Dromoka's Command because she is a werewolf and anything that targets her triggers Partisan. Wolves for life !! :D

Planeswalkers Show

Nissa, Voice of Zendikar: A cutte little planeswalker that can either produce bodies (although small ones) or power up all your creatures on board by giving them a +1/+1 counter. Nissa is very cheap and both of her abilities are very relevant and it usually depends on the situation which one you should use. I would suggest making plant tokens if your creature count is small (1-2). If you have already multiple creatures on board it is usually the best choice to pump then. The best part about this. Since Nissa has 3 Loyalty counters and her minus is only -2, she is not dead after she boosts your army and (assuming she doesnt get killed by your opponent) can be used to create mor bodies next turn.

Gideon, Ally of Zendikar: The best planeswalker in our deck and arguably the best card as well. Gideon gives us the choice if we want to permanently pump our creatures right away (which has a great impact on the game if you have a significant board presence) or can stall us games and build up our forces by creating Knight tokens. Again, just like with Nissa, sometimes one of the abilities is preferred. You can also use Gideon as an 5/5 attacking creature which is sometimes not a bad idea and helps you to pressure the opponent just enough to win eventually.

Arlinn Kord  : The whole reasen I went for Naya Tokens, not GW Tokens is because of this card. I really wanted to play Arlinn since I saw her in the spoilers. Unfortunately, she is not played much which I think is because there isnt the right shell for her as of now (yeah there are RG werewolves, but that is not a Tier 1 deck right now). I am not saying that this deck is where she really shines, but she is always useful when you get to cast her. She can make Tokens which kinda fits this decks theme. Also, her flipped side can pump all creatures for a single turn and give them trample. This is what I am aiming for and I think it is her best use. Just imagine using the anthem effects of Nissa and Gideon on your creatures and then make them giant tramplers with Arlinn. And her road to that ability is useful too. She makes a Wolf token when she enters the battlefield and flips. Next turn, you can start using her mini-Overrun. Only playing 2 copies of her though because even if she resembles Gideon a lot, she is still not as good as he is in this build. I feel like 2 is the right number for her, for now at least.

Spells Show

Dromoka's Command:The Swiss army knife of the deck. Command lets us do what we want. It gets rid of pesky enchantments like Cryptolith Rite, Silkwrap, other Evolutionary Leap or Always Watching . It prevents the damage from annoying burn spells like Fall of the Titans or anything Goggle Ramp decks can think of. Command also pumps one of your creatures or lets it fight another creature (both of these modes work awesome with Silverfur Partisan). For 2 mana, you can choose 2 out of 4 amazing effects. There is no doubt, that this card is one of the most feared cards in the deck and also the one that helps us win a lot.

Secure the Wastes: I never thought this card was bad, but it became even more impressive with Westvale Abbey  . When the game goes long and you have a lot of mana you can just create a handful of tokens and either power them up with your planeswalkers or sacrifice them for an Ormendahl. Secure is just a win-more card and might even be played in more copies. Depends on personal taste I guess.

Oath of Nissa: For one mana you get a land, creature or planeswalker card for free (if you find one among the top three of your library, which is not that hard in this deck) and lets you cast your planeswalkers with any mana you have available - AWESOME! Casting Gideon and Arlinn can be challenging sometimes but with Oath you dont really have to be worried about your mana. Watch out for opposing Dromoka's Command though.

Stasis Snare: So Ive seen this card as 1-of in most or at least many of the GW Tokens deck and I decided I would add it also, because I guess it is nice to remove big threats with instant speed and it is not limited to the CMC like Silkwrap. Will see how this works, kinda trying the version with 1 Snare where I remove one Lambholt Pacifist   and also a version with two Snares where I move the Evolutionary Leap to the sideboard.

Manabase Show

As for the Manabase, I play 5 basic Forest, 4 basic Plains. They are very much needed for the Fortified Village, Canopy Vista and Cinder Glade, because I dont really want my lands to enter tapped. It is always good to play the shadowland (the village) first till you still have basics or battlelands to reveal and then try to get two basics on the field to make the best use out of Vistas, and Glades. In this format sequencing your land drops is difficult and very significant for your chances of winning. A wrong choice with a land drop can cost you a game ultimately.

As for other lands, I play 2 Battlefield Forge (those are nice because they dont enter tapped and we dont use them for coloured mana that often anyway), 2 Westvale Abbey   (because, why not Ormendahl if you can have one) and 2 Needle Spires (you want a Manland for late game with your Sylvan Advocate).

I think this is a very stable manabase and you dont get screwed a lot (Oath of Nissa makes all your mana-cheats real :D).

Sideboard choices Show

Angelic Purge: This card is weird. I mean, it is a common that lets you EXILE a creature, enchantment or artifact for 2 with sorcery speed, but you need to sacrifice a permanent. I mean, in most decks this would not be wanted. But if you look at this deck, you will realise that we have quite a lot of permanents that we can just trade for big threats. I mean, exiling an Ormendahl, Archangel Avacyn  , Fevered Visions, etc. is always nice for 3 mana and a small plant token, or warrior token or even an Oath of Nissa when you dont need it anymore. So overall, this card is nice in this deck, goes up against decks with big threats that can be answered very poorly with my maindeck. 1 copy in the sideboard (for now).

Clip Wings: I think this is self-explanatory. Gets rid of Ormendahl, Archangel Avacyn   and especially Dragonlord Ojutai and basically any other Dragonlord. Nice!. 2 copies in the sideboard.

Quarantine Field: Trying this one out, because I want to have a good answer for enemy planeswalkers, for example against Control or even the mirror. Against enemies that dont have the possibility to destroy enchantments it is very powerful, although also always very mana heavy. A nice thing is, though, that Dromokas Command isnt necessarily destroying the Field, because we run enough enchantments to sacrifice another one (an unneeded late game Oath of Nissa). I will see how the Field helps me and if it is worth keeping it in. 1 copy in the sideboard.

Declaration in Stone: I dont like giving my opponents Clue tokens, but this is a very cheap and very efficient removal that can get rid of up to several creatures for only 1. And on top of that, it gets rid of Secure the Wastes tokens and any other tokens (without giving the opponent a Clue token). Yeah, just a nice card that I like to board in for sideboard or as some extra hate against decks that play efficient creatures. 3 copies in the sideboard.

Den Protector: A new addition that I didnt really use that much on last FNM, but it is great if you play against heavy-removal decks. You can get some of your best cards back and replay them, which is always nice. Plus it is a nice attacker. Also, it was great against a Mill matchup :). 2 copies in the sideboard.

Evolutionary Leap: Nothing is better than to "ignore" removal and just sac your creatures in response to get them "back" from the deck. This card just makes all the control players cry because it enables you to find a new threat for every threat they get rid of. Of course you need some mana to use it, so it cant be really abused, but it is still a great tech-card. If you are a maniac you can also sac your tokens and loot for creatures (which I actually do quite some times). I moved it from the mainboard to the sideboard though, because I didnt get too many opportunities to use it and I guess adding a third Lambholt Pacifist   will be more effective than keeping the Leap. Plus I can still board it in against control. 1 copy in the sideboard.

Hallowed Moonlight: Against every CoCo deck you want to board it in. Plus you can also consider it against a mirror, or something like BW Control, where you dont want them to play Secure the Wastes. 1 copy in the sideboard.

Linvala, the Preserver: A great flyer when you are behind. Basically you want this against creature heavy decks (or burn respectively) so you can get an Angel token and start beating them up in the air. Plus she is bigger than an unflipped Avacyn, which is nice. 1 copy in the sideboard.

Secure the Wastes: If you are a maniac like me, or many other people and want more tokens just board a third Secure and youve got it :D. Now seriously, it is a great card against matchups where you want to be fast (midrange strategies, control strategies without Languish :D) so why not a third copy? 1 copy in the sideboard.

Tragic Arrogance: The perfect card in the mirror, against CoCo decks, against Aristocrats, 4c Rites decks and everything else that plays a lot of creatures. You can get from behind so quickly with this. Considering a third copy. For now 2 copies in the sideboard.

So since my last update I made a few changes. Added a third Archangel Avacyn   in favor of the Evolutionary Leap (still have one in side) and trimmed the number of Pacifist to 2 (for now, I guess I will have to start removing Partisan, sigh). Also added 2 Needle Spires because it is great with Sylvan Advocate.

Added explanations for Sideboard cards!

Added a Quarantine Field to the sideboard instead of a second Angelic Purge because it deals with planeswalkers and any other annoying permanents. Thinking of adding a third Tragic Arrogance (because it has won me games) and maybe even a Dragonlord Dromoka (but I am not sure if I need both her and Linvala, and I guess Linvala is better if you are behind). Not sure if Den Protector is that useful and thinking of moving the third Secure the Wastes to main (because it is just bonkers in many matchups). Just my thoughts on possible sideboard changes :)
