Maybeboard


I am slowly working on building a respectable tokens deck for my fiancee so that she can do what she loves in battle card games: turning a lot of things sideways (read: Yu-Gi-Oh! Season 1 Harpy Lady Sisters). I'm excited for the future of this deck and love what it has become thus far.

The obvious editions are faster lands, but I want to optimize my non-lands before investing into that.

Doubling Season - An obvious choice for the deck, but it is a bit too expensive for me right now.

Aura Shards - Another semi-expensive card that would be great for this deck.

Mirari's Wake - More mana and bigger tokens. It's so great for this deck.

Growing Rites of Itlimoc   - Who doesn't want a Gaea's Cradle?

Sun Titan - Potential option for some light recursion

Mentor of the Meek - A great draw-con for after you start buffing your tokens (r.i.p. Skullclamp)

Omnath, Locus of Rage - This is generally worth putting in any deck that appreciates landfall and can fuel it. This gives cards like Cultivate a greater purpose in the late game. This also gives me some way to get back at someone who preps a board wipe.

Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite - A less nice card, but it is amazing for a deck that likes to go wide. It also gets rid of tech-cards like Spore Frog.

Wood Elves - This card will be really good once the mana base is updated to duals with the basic types available.

Mycoloth - This would be a better token generator than half of the ones currently in the deck. This could probably replace Sporemound.

Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker - This card is one of the reasons that anyone includes red in a tokens deck. If you create token copies of a token produced by an effect like this, those other tokens do not go away at the end step.

Grand Abolisher - Dodging Counterspell effects is important if you do not have them yourself.

Mirror Entity - A potential buff card, if the others seem too flimsy or I need another mana sink (I shouldn't need another mana sink, my commander is one).

Naya Charm - Modality is the main reason this is being considered.

Cryptolith Rite - potentially better than traditional land-fetching.

Primal Vigor - Another really good doubler. Anything that effects Marath allows me to pay 1 to make marath that much bigger.

Darksteel Mutation - Read: Why is your enemy's commander a 0/1 insect with no abilities? Probably not helpful to them.

Garruk Wildspeaker - More mana, more tokens, and an anthem. This would be amazing in this deck.

Ajani, Mentor of Heroes - Make Marath bigger, get better card access, gain life. This would be amazing in this deck.

Mimic Vat - Recursion, plus I potentially get more than one with doubling effects. Extras stay.

Hardened Scales - Marath can build herself up if necessary. Note: She can also build herself up when it's not necessary.

Gahiji, Honored One - Incentive for your opponents to attack other people while also anthem-ing your board

Nightshade Peddler - A good budget card to give Marath deathtouch, if I feel that it is necessary.

Ogre Battledriver - Combo potential with other to-add cards and otherwise is just great for quickening your alpha strike

Basilisk Collar - A better Gorgon's Head

Oran-Rief, the Vastwood - Free buff on all your green creatures entering (Marath's tokens are green!)

Gavony Township - Repeatable board boost

Inspiring Call - Really good to stop boardwipes and draw cards with the above two lands

Earthcraft - Activate Marath as many times as you can (which is sometimes infinite)

Inkmoth Nexus - If they have more life then you can deal damage, just poison them (don't steal their deck though, then it'd be obvious)

Xenagos, the Reveler - Mana, tokens, and creature/land acceleration. Nothing wrong with this card.

Garruk, Caller of Beasts - Increasing your access to creatures is always good

Restoration Angel - Combos are good (read: Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker)

Craterhoof Behemoth - Less of an anthem and more of a violent death rally. Also read: wincon

Birds of Paradise - 3 color deck

Sigarda, Host of Herons - Resilience, plus works really well in my local meta (looking at you Muldrotha and Meren).

Gisela, Blade of Goldknight - A wonderful card for both better aggro and resilience, and investing into both at the same time is amazing.

Xenagos, God of Revels - A wonderful free buff per turn puts a lot of pressure on the board as you swing with an Everything/Everything token that you don't care about

Hangarback Walker - Another great card for not caring as much about boardwipes (you can dump the Marath tokens over to Hangerback Walker before resolving the board wipe.

Survival of the Fittest - Really expensive ($$$), really inexpensive ({1}{G}), and really good

Glare of Subdual - Naturalize on a stick

Sylvan Library - A wonderful draw card for any green deck ($$$)

Martial Coup - Wipe the board, but make another one for yourself at the same time

Seasons Past - A good recursion-tech card depending on the variance in cmc

Chromatic Lantern - Great for any multi-color deck

Ashnod's Altar - Great combo card, if the end-list wants it

Mana Echoes - Great ramp card: pay {1} with Marath and get {X} back, where X is the number of Elementals you have (at least 2!)

Phyrexian Altar - Another great combo-potential card

Elspeth, Knight-Errant - Great for everything minus the second +1, unless you're going to delete someone with commander damage

Elspeth Tirel - A potentially repeatable board wipe that keeps your tokens on the field

Ajani, Caller of the Pride - Every one of those abilities are great

Freyalise, Llanowar's Fury - Ramp, naturalize, and land acceleration

Garruk, Primal Hunter - Tokens and draw

Huatli, Warrior Poet - Tokens, burn, and lifegain. Nothing wrong here.

Nissa, Voice of Zendikar - more tokens and more card draw
