Kizmetto your deck looks very similar to mine, my friends says to go Gruul instead of Naya because is more aggressive, but i love Naya too (Huatli and Gishath guilty, and white have good removals and sideboard).

How does this deck work against competitive decks?

holdriz ive been playing this since ixalan release and consistently go well, averaging 3-1 in a ~18+ player fnm :) i have written up my matches in the updates section but it fares well against most decks, but i found temur energy was my biggest problem due to their efficiency. but since banning of cards, the archetype has died out or converted into Snake decks. RDW is a hard match but having white means i take game 2 and 3 usually with sunwing and authority of the consuls and lifegain. My meta lacks any real control decks but running 3 carnage tyrant mainboard really helps. Im quite confident in this build and yes, ive been told going Gruul is better too ... but then i think how you may as well be playing RG Monsters aha, i like the white splash too much to give it up.

How are your matches?

Kizmetto nice! I only play with friends, i rock with this deck, they have WB vampires, GU merfolks and URB Pirates, just for fun, but i did well in some matches against aggro and approach meta decks on our MTG local store (i'm from Brazil).

Unfortunately here on Brazil cards are very expensive (4x price of dollar) and i don't feel so comfortable spending so much money on really good cards like Carnage Tyrant, so good against control. For me i would have 4 copies of them, but they are very expensive here :(

But i'm thinking of starting to participate in local championships sooner. I'll not build any other Standard deck because i really love dinosaurs and want to play with them until their extinction on Standard :P

I'll follow your deck by Argy's indication, i think your deck/updates very good. All the best for you!

holdriz oh! Thank you very much :) And that sucks to hear about the x4 cost of cards, what about MTGO or MTG Arena? Perhaps it wont be as expensive on there? Im not sure myself sorry.

Yess! I love playing the dinosaurs too, and probably will play them for quite a while still! Thank you for commenting and the compliment :)

Kizmetto nah, i prefer to build a budget deck and play with my friends and in stores here than online xD

Did you try to play with Etali? Etali saved me so many times, i think this card it's stronger than it seems to be.

Updated with M19 cards! We dropped white for now, giving pure Gruul a try now we have some strong contenders in Runic Armasaur and Vivien Reid! Also considered Gigantosaurus for fun, but HMMM maybe a bit too cute. Added in some more early removal in the form of Shivan Fire as i like its scaling with the game as well as some mish-mash for the sideboard, which i am still tweaking and testing. Im glad Goblin Chainwhirler isn't a problem for this deck.

I think more Carnage Tyrants would be better and I don't think it's a good idea to have too many 3-drops when you want to play a mana dork on turn two and start slamming big things. If you do like the three drops, consider Llanowar Elves. Sweet deck, +1!

Hey man! Interesting list. Thoughts on Goreclaw, Terror of Qal Sisma, Sarkhan's Unsealing, and/or Deathgorge Scavenger (for SB)? Sweet list!

I like this. I would certainly add Deathgorge Scavenger to the Sideboard. It eats up graveyards.

Maaagic Tried llanowar and it 1) never sticks to the board or 2) not benifiting from dinosaurs at all makes it overall weaker in this strat, though i totally get the reasoning behind it all. I guess my preferred t1 is Commune with Dinosaurs into my mana dork and going for a t3 4 drop :) Though...3 carnage tyrants sure is nice.

Pabs4444 Hey thanks for commenting! I did have goreclaw, terror of wal sisma but it was also too slow and ate all the removal! Not once have i stuck a goreclaw for me to get the benifits of it off :( maybe just my bad luck with the card. Same with Sarkhan's Unsealing, being a dead turn but certainly pays off well in the whole clear-the-board strategy i like. Might look into testing again, what would you drop and how many?

Definately adding back Deathgorge Scavenger for the upcoming meta.

andriygoblin %100 agreed. What would you drop for it and maybe...3 copies?? Thanks for commenting too!

With the current meta changing I would drop either Shalai, Voice of Plenty or Kinjalli's Sunwing

andriygoblin took your advice and tweaked sideboard, adding in the Deathgorge Scavenger. Feels more consistent now.

ive been thinking on capitalising a little more on the midrange focus and enrage as a mechanic, now that im running Deafening Clarion mainboard and im looking at these two copies of Trapjaw Tyrant i have in my folder. perhaps i could drop 1 Runic Armasaur and a Ixalan's Binding to give them a try? what do you think?

Pabs4444 says... #13

I'd personally keep Shalai. Helps protect against Settle the Wreckage. Also can pump the team if need be.

Kizmetto says... #14

Pabs4444 agreed completely, this deck does like to get settled a lot.

October 5, 2018 7:44 p.m.

Pabs4444 says... #15

I can see why... Settle is an annoying card for big creature decks... Have you considered some of the big name burn spells in Fight with Fire or Banefire?

October 5, 2018 7:49 p.m.

Kizmetto says... #16

Pabs4444 I have considered Fight with Fire in the sideboard but never really brought it in against matches, and Banefire feels flavorfully correct aha, but what could i drop? I do get into big mana, and if i do get Settle the Wreckage'd, I suddenly have all this mana to pump into the burn spell.

What do you think of Trapjaw Tyrant and adding more enrage triggers when Deafening Clarion goes off? Too cute?

Argy says... #17

I've added Lava Coil to my Dragons Sideboard.

I overlooked it at first, but it can take care of Rekindling Phoenix effectively.

Glad to see that someone else appreciates it!

Fight with Fire has more flexibility than Banefire and can kill Shalai, Voice of Plenty, which I've seen in a lot of decks.

Against Control you swap it for Banefire because then you will absolutely know if it fits the matchup better.

Boros seem to have great fliers, so fight wth fire for 3 can kill the 5 toughness creatures easily. Trapjaw is nice interaction with Clarion, but it doesn't seem as productive, being that you would prefer to remove the creatures with Clarion. It would be sweet the times it works, but I can just see you having one piece in your hand and not playing them out, waiting for the other. That becomes a problem in non blue/black based strategies as drawing cards is harder. I also don't like the idea of stealing their creature to just get it back with a burn spell to kill Trapjaw. Lifelink may be relevant at times...

Argy says... #19

How would you Sideboard against Sarkhan's Dragon Den [Guilds of Ravnica]?

There are so many Sideboard cards that are relevant, that it's difficult for me to choose.

October 5, 2018 10:36 p.m.

Kizmetto says... #20

Argy I think i would sideboard like this against your dragons deck.

IN:

OUT:

Quite a hard sideboard, but i think im happy with that kind of sideboarding for that match.

That's so close to what I did that it's not funny!

Argy whoa, thats freaky.

October 5, 2018 11:32 p.m.

Argy says... #23

I've included this deck in my Sideboard notes, so you can see what I swap.

There are two problems my deck causes for this one:

  • Fliers, particularly the pump ability

  • Speed - the three colours struggle to keep up with the pace

Goblin Chainwhirler is also horrendous against this. It kills mana dorks, and stops Regisaur Alpha's 3/3 from attacking.

The fact that Regisaur dies to most of my removal spells is also an issue.

Don't want to sound like I'm lording it over your deck, just trying to give information to potentially improve it.

Flawless_Sin says... #24

I would keep Runic Armasaur for Sideboard since you asked. I think it's very conditional card.

October 6, 2018 2:03 a.m.

Kizmetto says... #25

Pabs4444 yeah i can see that happening too. too cute!

andriygoblin i think it will trigger more often in the newer meta with a bunch of creatures with activated abilities. Do you think Thrashing Brontodon would be a better mainboard then? so many decisions..

Argy thats quite alright! i need to know this stuff so thank you. I wonder if Shapers' Sanctuary may have helped out here but theres really not much i can do about fliers generally speaking. I think youre right with Fight with Fire into side and dropping Shapers' Sanctuary?

Thanks for testing!
