Drtongue Yeah that would work with Teysa out as a budget board-wipe, but there are better options that don't require Teysa on board. I'd rather play basic white wraths since they're unconditional, but Night Incarnate does work with Phyrexian Reclamation so there's that.

I've been hunting around for a base I like to make Teysa Karlov . I was less focused on the necromancy side of things in the build I was targeting, but man does this deck look fun. Well done!

@Drtongue: Maybe I'm mistaken but doesn't Night Incarnate trigger just once, as it is a "leaves the battlefield" not a "creature dying" effect?

April 8, 2019 5:37 p.m.

Masterful says... #4

phsycord As stated by the official gatherer: "An ability that triggers when a creature 'leaves the battlefield' will trigger twice if that creature leaves the battlefield by dying." Teysa doesn't care how the ability is worded as long as it's triggered by a creature dying, so Night Incarnate 's ability would trigger twice if Teysa's on the field. If you have any other rules questions, the primer has an Ability Rulings section which covers all the other shenanigans we can get away with.

sub780lime Apologies for the late reply, but I can assure you that the deck is very fun. Thanks for the compliment!

Nice thank you!

I'd appreciate it if you'd like to post your thoughts on my own Teysa Karlov Aristocrats deck, where I'm aiming for a lower cost cmc than your deck, trying to combo off using Blasting Station or Drain effects

Darkest hour doesn’t go infinite. All creatures are black. Not all creatures are black in addition to. You’ll never have white creatures to sack.

collinaw Good catch. Darkest Hour doesn't go infinite with Teysa, Orzhov Scion alone. However, it still does go infinite with any other sac outlet.

What do you think about the Black finale from the war of the spark set?

May 5, 2019 5:11 a.m.

Masterful says... #9

Henryu Personally, I don't like it. It's too expensive to justify its effects. Most of the time, I see it being either a bad Hex or a bad Rise of the Dark Realms . The only thing it has going for it is its versatility, and for such an expensive spell that's pretty bad at <4 mana, its not even that versatile.

If you feel like you need more late-game finishers, I'd run Exsanguinate , Rise of the Dark Realms , or Debt to the Deathless . If more mass removal, Damnation , Austere Command , or maybe something like Attrition .

EDIT: The card in question: Finale of Eternity

I really like Angelic Purge as a sac outlet/removal spell.

skroes Purge is definitely above average with this deck. If you need more removal, it's not a bad option, but I personally wouldn't play it over the removal I have already

How about Kaya's Guile ?? i think is a good card for this deck.

June 5, 2019 10:09 a.m.

Masterful says... #13

Zordy93 It has a lot of utility, but outside of graveyard heavy metas, it's a bit lacking. The forced sacrifice is good but overcosted by itself for 3 mana. Exiling graveyards is really good but only in certain metas. The other two abilities don't really do anything for our deck, so I'd say if you're at least getting value from the graveyard aspect, then it's worth looking at. My meta isn't hyper graveyard centered, so I'm gonna go without it.

Great Deck!
Wouldn't Bloodghast , Brood of Cockroaches and Nether Traitor be better options to Doomed Traveler , Reassembling Skeleton , or Hunted Witness ? They may not create extra tokens, but they can repeatedly trigger non-token-death-triggers.

phsycord says... #15

I play all three cards you wanted to swap out in my own Teysa Deck (Teysa Karlov's Citadel).

Reassembling Skeleton is simply awesome because you can do this in instant speed and it has really nice combos you can pull off to get infinite death triggers and sometimes also infinite mana. The same goes for Nether Traitor , awesome card and I'd include it.

If you are not on a budget then Bloodghast might be an improvement over Doomed Traveler or Hunted Witness . Sometimes can screw you if you don't have enough fixing, but depending you'll be playing this card early, I think it should be fine. Only downside is that you don't get immediate value. Both Travler and Witness give you 2 creatures for , which is nice.

For Brood of Cockroaches I'm a bit sceptical, because you get it back in to your hand EOT. So no combos are possible like the ones for Skeleton and Traitor. I'd rather run a Doomed Traveler or Hunted Witness instead for immediate value.

It seems like combo 2 is missing the sac outlet. I am think there should be a "+ Sac Outlet" included. Let me know if I am wrong.

June 19, 2019 4 p.m.

phsycord says... #17

@sub780lime: imo the wording of the 2nd combo is correct, as it states: "one creature dying" creates you two tokens and two spirits (also tokens).

But of course it's awesome if you have a sack outlet on board and can instantly create 9 death triggers off of one non token creature dying.

June 19, 2019 5:30 p.m.

sub780lime says... #18

The wording specifically mentions sac'ing a creature with no sac outlet mentioned:

"Ogre Slumlord or Pawn of Ulamog + Requiem Angel + Teysa: The angel triggers on any non-spirit creature, so with it, Ogre Slumlord or Pawn of Ulamog , and Teysa in play at once, a single creature dying will grant two tokens and two spirits. The tokens can then be sac'd to make four 1/1 spirits. This results in a possible total of 9 death triggers from one creature dying."

June 19, 2019 9:26 p.m.

phsycord says... #19

Well then go with: The tokens can then be sac'd with a sac outlet to make four 1/1 spirits. But imo it's pretty clear you need a sac outlet to sac something...

In two color decks I normally play it conservative when I cut in lands that dont instantly tap for colored mana. In my opinion prismatic vista is not better than just running a plains. I feel the card doesn't gain value until the third color, its perfect when wincons are in splash colors.

Thank you phsycord, for sharing your thoughts, they were very insightful.

sub780lime says... #22

phsycord, I see what you are saying about assumed information by needing a sac outlet. I am only pointing out there is an inconsistency between combo 2 and combo 3. If the combo is its end result (winning in combo 3, 9 death triggers in combo 2), then the sac outlet is a requirement and should be listed. If the sac outlet in combo 2 is just a bonus and not a core part of the combo being conveyed, then the wording you mentioned would definitely be a little clearer.

Any new cards from M20?

July 9, 2019 11:36 p.m.

sub780lime says... #24

The Cavalier's are the most obvious choices, but I don't think they add enough and the weight of their color for their CMC's is prohibitive. Brought Back could be an interesting play, but not strong enough at this decks price point, IMO.

July 9, 2019 11:57 p.m.

Masterful says... #25

V6e6n6om Overall, M20 isn’t as impressive as it’s recent predecessors. Like sub780lime says, Brought Back is probably the closest to making the cut, but it’s a bit too situational. The cavaliers are cute but too color intensive for they power they bring. I’m not fully sold on my opinions yet, so I’ll see how the set rolls out
