Major changes coming soon. I've been playtesting a few new configurations and I think it's getting much more streamlined and tougher to deal with.

Ran Poison-Tip Archer tonight in place of Throne, against an artifact deck. Sideboarded Wickerbough Elder and Creeping Corrosion as well... Never needed Corrosion; Archer was extremely punishing against the deck, shutting down its sac-an-artifact abilities; and Elder came in handy as a land-destruction piece. I can safely say that this build has no issue against artifact decks as it stands. Still tweaking, need to strengthen it against Tron.

Gonna try the latest incarnation of the deck at FNM:Modern tonight. Will update deck changes later today.

Going into FNM:Modern tonight, I think my maindeck will have Ambush Viper replaced by Duress for recon and I'm sideboarding Damping Sphere in place of Dispossess. I've also considered mainboarding Wickerbough Elder in place of Necroskitter, but it depends on the representation of Control decks vs Token decks. Tron is the only deck that is giving me issues at the moment. I need to find a good balance between being prepared for it and handling all other threats.

Last night was a mixed bag. The deck never really got humming, but I made the best of it. In a field of 22 participants, I ended up just missing top 8 and finished 9th. First round, I faced a Mardu Pyromancer build; 1-1-1 and ran out of time. Second round was colorless Eldrazi Tron, 0-2-0 and pretty frustrating. After that match, I discovered that 5 players were running some sort of Tron variant. Ugh. Round 3, I faced (you guessed it) another colorless Tron build, but this time I managed to find my Sphere and got lucky that my opponent mulled in games 2 and 3. Won that round 2-1-0, but it wasn't enough to make top 8. More tweaks to come...

I think the deck is great, but the Nirvana reference is even better...one of my favorite songs of theirs. Cheers! +1

May add 2x Vraska, Golgari Queen and will likely bump up mainboard disruption. Still tuning.

Added one Assassin's Trophy and removed one Ambush Viper. Will add more trophy as they are acquired.

Hey PhthisisClock, that's great that you are still jamming this at events! It's very cool that you can brawl with the best with a sweet sweet brew. Fate Transfer is hilarious against Hardened Scales Affinity. Thanks!

SomeFish thanks! I'm still ironing it out, it's such a fun deck to play as-is right now, but I'm definitely adding at least 1 or 2 more Assassin's Trophy and am thinking about adding Beseech the Queen... since there isn't a draw engine, I thought a tutor would help find some of my 1of and 2of answers, might open up the sideboard a bit. Of course i'm always staying aware that too much tooling around may hinder the deck, but I try to make slight changes slowly and really get a good trial run of it before altering more. Thanks for keeping posted!

Love the concept, +1. I made a similar deck based around -1/-1 counters, but it's focus is putting those counters mainly on my own creatures. Double Negative

I'm not sure why this hasn't come up earlier, but Devoted Druid seems pretty good in this deck.

amazingdan... Devoted Druid could work in this build, but I prefer Channeler Initiate for 3 reasons: first, the deck is more heavily black than green, and Initiate can produce either; second, Initiate gets larger as the game progresses, and if I don't need mana fixing, I can dump the counters on a token, thus getting a 3/4 for 2cmc; third, Initiate is seen as a threat, moreso than a 0/2 (imo) and is more likely to be removed, which means one less removal spell for my other, "more-problematic-later" creatures. Thanks for the upvote, and thank you for checking out my build!!

Canker Abomination would net you creatures if your versing a creature heavy deck

Phillygreenman007 thanks for that suggestion! I saw Canker Abomination in other decklists and have tossed around that idea a bit lately. I think I could add a lower cost synergistic creature and cut Incremental Blight for the sake of speed. I think I need to keep my cards at no greater than 4cmc. I also have been considering sideboarding Appetite for Brains, but I might be getting overboard with removal. Any thoughts on Brains?

Phillygreenman007... so I was considering Canker Abomination... in this build it wouldn't net creatures unless I used it as a counter-dump. ETB-with-counters doesn't trigger Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons, or Nest of Scarabs. For a similar effect and same cmc, I could use Soulstinger, which I had considered in the past, but sorta forgot about. When Soulstinger was released, I initially thought it would allow you to target multiple creatures, which it doesn't, however it has great synergy with Nest of Scarabs. I dropped Soulstinger in standard because it was too slow, but it might (big might) be worth a try in this build, especially with Necroskitter in play.

I stand corrected.... I did not realize that "ETB with counters" was considered the same as "place counters on". So Phillygreenman007 you are correct, Canker Abomination would net creatures if board is set-up properly. Cheers!

It's been one year since the first comment on this build, and I'm still tinkering with it. I guess it never really ends with this one, probably because I've had so much fun with the build. Never would have guessed that Prerelease:Amonkhet would put me on a 2yr+ journey into building such a fun modern deck. Just want to extend thanks to everybody who has upvoted, and shoutouts to sillywhiteboy, nlidmaster, Disciple_of_Doran, SomeFish, Snige, Phillygreenman007, Flooremoji, ancientskull, Omgawall, Oldschool930, and amazingdan for suggestions and support. Cheers, and here's hoping to more great golgari cards in 2019!

Can't decide on whether to drop Blowfly Infestation or not... I've grown to think that, while it definitely combos well in the deck, it just is too much of a liability. A few games ended on Sunday with Infestation destroying my boardstate. I know that it is a risky card, but I've generally been able to keep it under control until the other night. It was the first time that I had experienced the tide-turn of going from wanting it in play, to wanting it gone. Not a great feeling. Considering replacing it with one or two creatures.

I would keep it in. You can also just side it out in those match-ups.

@ancientskull... Throne is a love/hate card for me in this build. You are right that usually it provides "incedental drain that doesn't do much"... however, if it goes off well, it's a win-con. I just can't commit either way yet.
