Basic Strategy

  1. Mana ramp and find a wheel or Waste Not
  2. Cast Waste Not and other pain permanents
  3. Wheel to victory

Win-cons

A. Necropotence

This is the most broken card in the deck, and having this in play probably means that your opponents won't live to see their next turn. Wheeling draws you a ton of cards, and this card allows you to effectively power through your deck with ease. For a similar broken card, see Dream Halls.

B. Mind Over Matter + Temple Bell

Do you have too many cards after you use Necropotence? Well, with MoM out you can toss away those extra cards to draw new ones! You can use this combo to keep drawing until everyone dies from either Nekusar or Underworld Dreams, or you can wheel with Megrim or Liliana's Caress out to kill everyone with discard damage.

C. Waste Not

Wheeling with this out draws you a ton of cards, and even produces free mana which allows you to effectively power through your deck with ease. This card will help you to easily win games out of nowhere.

Card Choices

CMC 0

  • Chrome Mox- this is the worst 0 drop on the list since it exiles a card, but free mana is free mana
  • Lion's Eye Diamond- Almost as good as a Black Lotus, this card increases your storm count and gives you free mana. However, it has to be sacrificed right after a wheel as you can't use it to pay for a cost since it will force you to discard your hand.
  • Lotus Petal- nets one free mana and adds to storm count, can't beat that.
  • Mana Crypt- more broken than Sol Ring, this card allows you to have extremely fast starts and allows you to cast wheels on turn 1.
  • Mox Diamond- very good for making use of excess land and is the best Mox in here.
  • Mox Opal - provides free mana with no penalty but is dead without 2 other artifacts.
  • Pact of Negation-works great for protecting combos or stopping others from winning, but use it only if necessary.

CMC 1

  • Brainstorm- the best hand filter card ever, it helps you cycle through your deck to find the cards you need faster.
  • Candelabra of Tawnos-color fixes by filtering all the extra black and colorless mana you have into your lands.
  • Chain of Vapor-bounces any annoying permanent and is especially useful right before wheel. You can even bounce your own things and I have yet to see someone use its other effect.
  • Dark Ritual-helps you combo out faster by giving you 2 free mana. What's not to like?
  • Gamble-this card is great when it works but is one of the worst topdecks in here.
  • Gitaxian Probe-great for making sure an opponent doesn't have counterspells and also puts the card you just searched for with Vampiric Tutor into your hand for a mere 2 life.
  • High Tide-don't have enough mana to cast that Time Spiral in your hand? Well, worry no more as this card doubles all blue mana produced by any land with the land type Island. This card is insanely good and can very easily win you the game.
  • Imperial Seal-a strictly-worse Vampiric Tutor, it tutors for anything is great for setting up your next turn.

Tips

Don't fall in love with your hands. If there is a pain card, and it's not convenient to cast, don't be afraid to wheel it away. Due to the random nature of the deck, you can't expect to have any game plan at all, so just embrace what the heart of the cards gives you.

I would appreciate any feedback or suggestions that you may have for my deck as I continue to playtest and try to improve upon it.

Cards I am thinking about testing are Past in Flames, Dark Deal, Laboratory Maniac, Demonic Consultation, Remand, and Ill-Gotten Gains .

And remember: "When in doubt, wheel it out."

Updates Add

I am looking to add the following cards: Bubbling Muck, High Tide, Sensei's Divining Top, Force of Will, Voltaic Key, Seething Song, and Mind's Desire. However, I am not sure what I need to cut for these or if I should cut them at all, so I would greatly appreciate if you have any suggestions about these cards.
