Cool deck. :)
I loved Dissipation Field (how could I have forgotten that one???) and Mirari a lot. Unsure about what to remove for Mirari at this point though.
Lots of stuff you use is on my maybe board, meaning that I already thought of those but will have to buy them and add them in the future.
I'll have to ask though: how does Shocker and Barbed Shocker , Dream Halls (I love that card but I fear that my opponents will abuse it more than I) and Meletis Charlatan ?
+1'ed you.

Shocker and barbed shocker are nice little guys for forcing discard+draw, but they are one of the first cards to go. Meletis charlatan is definitely removed for Fate Unraveler (I just didn't update my deck yet).
I run Dream Halls so that I can just wheel and deal into as many wheel and deal as possible without worrying about mana cost. If I had the more expensive wheels I would run them.

The Shockers sound good and all and I did look at them when building the deck. But they seemed a bit too underwhelming. If only they got some form of evasion instead of trample..
The Charlatan sounds somewhat useful but still.., Fate Unraveler on the other hand... That's something I need and is on my to buy list. Once I have it I'll include the guy on my deck.
I understand the Halls. But I still fear that they'll help my opponents too much and help them undo what I'm doing. Akroma's Vengeance , Oblivion Stone , Scourglass , there are so many ways to destroy my field and since I'm feeding cards to my opponents, I'm also feeding them answers which can be played for free with the Halls.
Mainly I'm looking forward to get my paws on Fate Unraveler , Dissipation Field (incorrectly thought I owned 1), Forced Fruition , Magus of the Jar , Reforge the Soul , Wheel and Deal and Whispering Madness .
I'm also quite unsure about what to use between Vile Consumption and Pendrell Mists . I fear that Consumption is way too aggressive and make me too much a target whereas the Mists are more social and in the long term will force my opponents to chose between keeping their creatures or casting their win conditions. Any thoughts on that?
April 24, 2014 5:35 p.m.
Pendrell mists for sure. Your opponents will be returning creatures to their hand which you can wheel and deal into oblivion. Problem is... So will you...
Keep in mind that while you might be feeding your opponent answers, you will also be taking away the ones they have in hand. But you're right, it's risky. You really need the board position so you can sit around looking relatively harmless, then drop bombs. Again, that's why I like Dream Halls, because it effectively removes casting costs for you and let's you go nuts. I understand the hesitation though.
Hive Mind
is a wonderful card for that as well. It destroys players when suddenly everybody is casting a wheel. I'm going to put in Archmage Ascension
some time soon to reliably get useful cards. I'm also contemplating Eye of the Storm
for more crazy casting. Not sure yet.

I think you got that wrong. The Mists force you to sacrifice the creature or pay 1 mana. If they don't pay they'll just trigger Vicious Shadows . Consumption does the same, forcing you to pay 1 life instead.
I won't be using Archmage Ascension since I told myself that I didn't want to go bonkers with tutors with this deck. Its one of my main rules: no tutoring and no countering. I know, I know. I added Night Dealings . But I'm considering taking it out for stuff I saw on your deck: Mindlock Orb . I prefer fun over competitive and tutors ARE competitive. This deck should provide all the card advantage one needs without the tutors.
Hive Mind and Eye of the Storm though, are crazy stuff. I've been thinking about playing a chaos deck with those. Would also add Scrambleverse , Warp World and other stuff that generates chaos. I don't think this will be the deck though. But I am considering using just Hive Mind. It has great synergy with lots of stuff here. Thing is the deck can only hold 100 cards. :)

I run Nekusar in Gifting Pain. I've found enchantments like Curiosity and Ophidian Eye are incredibly powerful on the guy. Giving him hexproof has also drastically improved the deck. Also, since I regularly have a hand of 40 or so cards with my deck, infinite hand size is pretty big. Spell Book and Venser's Journal are huge. I mill myself out every third game or so. Elixir of Immortality has become a real thing for me. It allows me to be incredibly reckless and over extend. Take a look at my deck for some ideas. I have a ton of success with it.

I agree with you. Keeping your hand with this awesome draw power is great. That's why I'm using Reliquary Tower , Anvil of Bogardan and Price of Knowledge . They all double their value since 1st produces mana, 2nd adds a draw and 3rd capitalizes on huge hands. I'm willing to add Venser's Journal since it also has double value (more so since I'm hitting myself too). Just don't know what to remove for it as it is. Spell Book, not so much.
Elixir of Immortality is a bit redundant since I already have stuff that shuffles my grave back into my library. As a matter of fact I prefer Time Reversal and the soon to add Diminishing Returns to Elixir.
Curiosity and Ophidian Eye are nice but they don't give hexproof (that's why Lightning Greaves and Swiftfoot Boots are for). And I don't know if I'll really need those. What would you remove for them?
May 3, 2014 8:12 a.m.
Cards I think are on the weaker side: Minds Aglow , Spiteful Visions , Wall of Air , Wall of Souls , Bloodchief Ascension , Prosperity , Skyscribing .

This deck doesn't seem to have lots of defensive moments. That's why the walls are there. I might need them to stay alive for another turn...
Visions is awesome. C'mon. :P As is Ascension.
I can see myself removing Skyscribing though. Thanks. :)

Toss in wipes/bounces over puny walls. Stuff like Cyclonic Rift is amazing in commander. I used to run visions until I noticed I was taking too much damage. It's hard to squeeze lifegain into Nekusar decks. Vampiric Link and Exquisite Blood are your best bets. Ascension does nothing until it gets counters on it, after which it can do work. From experience, it only really gets to do work in about a sixth of the games I get to resolve it. Nakusar simply gives too many resources to players around the table. It's been nothing but a win-more card for me. Liliana's Caress has proven to be far more consistent for my deck.

I don't feel like going Liliana's Caress /Megrim on my build.
Vampiric Link on the other hand... I had not thought of that. It will that the Ascension's place. I don't feel like playing Exquisite Blood though. I already run it on another deck as an instant win condition and if people see it in this deck too they might overreact. ;)
Cyclonic Rift IS amazing indeed. I only own 1 copy though and use it on another deck where it makes a bit more sense.

I'm thinking about what you said regarding mass removal as the best way to defend myself instead of using walls. I don't have that much mass removal available other than Starstorm right now. I can easily add it, of course. But what do you think of the enchantments on my maybe board? Vile Consumption and Pendrell Mists sound fun and although they don't clear the board they do punish a player for overextending. I see myself cutting down 3 walls for both enchantments and the instant fairly easily.
Your thought on that?
May 3, 2014 9:20 a.m.
I find one of the best ways to keep myself alive is with the combination of No Mercy and Crawlspace . My player group has several explosive green decks that swarm the field fast. Limiting the number of attackers they have access to is key.
I don't know about those two enchantments. It's a bit like the argument against Soul Tithe in standard. Think about it. You're running a deck with limited defensive options an very little life gain. If you're willing to pay the effects specified here, why wouldn't your opponents? Realistically, I see them dump their tokens and lesser bodies while keeping the ones that give you a headache.
I like Darksteel Plate because it makes Nekusar into a wall. Many wipes are also really cheap. Blasphemous Act goes for 80 cents, for example.
Overall I like the deck. How well does this do in your group?
May 3, 2014 7:27 p.m.
DarkRequiem says... #15
Thing is, if I add those enchantments I'll also add Vicious Shadows . Even a dead token will be painful on any opponent. And I like that idea very much.
I like No Mercy (and Dissipation Field ) and it might have its place here. Crawlspace ... Although I think it is one hell of an annoying card. The green player in my group will always target it without much thought (and yes, if not anyone else he will have fast answers to it), making it a much less appealing solution to me.
The deck will be tried out tomorrow for the very first time. I still don't know a thing about how smooth it plays (only been goldfishing with it which doesn't help that much) now how well it will be received by the group.
Blasphemous Act is cool but I own none and won't be able to get one in the next coming days. I got Starstorm , Chain Reaction , Dread Cacodemon , Plague Wind , Jokulhaups , Mogg Infestation , Nevinyrral's Disk , Reiver Demon , Void , Disaster Radius and Earthquake available. If I had to choose (which I kind of do), I'd go with Chain Reaction and Starstorm . Yet these do nothing against indestructible creatures whereas the enchantments force the opponents to sacrifice their own creatures. As for me, as long as Nekusar stays in play I won't care much about everything else.
BTW, no Darksteel Plate s available atm either.

I'm one of those players who aren't too prone in destroying my whole board. Lol
Going to try a build with No Mercy + Pendrell Mists + Vicious Shadows tomorrow. Removed 3 walls. Eill update the decklist tomorrow and post the results.

First test done. It won the game and I found out that some cards did live greatly to their expectations. Horn of Greed , Pendrell Mists and Vicious Shadows were brutal cards. I do confess that the deck needs more stuff like Time Reversal . Diminishing Returns will be a great addition (will get a copy during this week) and Temporal Cascade might be cool too. No Timetwister or Time Spiral available though.
Did play 1 complete game (won) and had to quit on a 2nd game due to time restrictions. But it was behaving fairly well on that game too.
It needs a few tweaks but it does look like one hell of a deck. :) Playing walls seems to be a good option too. :)

Tandem Lookout , Helm of Obedience , and Mind Over Matter to round out your niv mizzet combos. +1
Check out Nekusar's Perfect Storm for more card ideas. Always looking for advice and +1s myself. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the ideas. I'm trying to stay away from Mind Over Matter since I consider it too broken and I prefer to have my decks fun (although effective), shying away from that kind of cards.
Helm of Obedience is a good card but I don't think this is the deck for it. Can you please tell me more about why you think it would work great here?
Tandem Lookout is one interesting card. Its a bit like Curiosity and Ophidian Eye . I'm unsure what would I remove to add it though.
Checking your own deck. :)

I update my deck on a semi-regular basis. Keep an eye out for it. +1 for this one :)
Nekusar's Old Fashioned Snake Oil
Fenizrael says... #1
I built a Nekusar EDH deck. I ran with a few decks I'd seen floating around that took advantage of forcing players to draw and discard as many cards as possible, and then I also set up a pillow fort to protect against the group hate that would ensue. The benefit is that you can usually wheel into a new hand if you don't have any cards in hand that you can use.
This is what I came up with Nekusar's Old Fashioned Snake Oil
Maybe you will find some cards in my deck that you like.
