I personally would rather dump my creatures into my graveyard instead of running Reliquary Tower to increase handsize. I bought one for my own Meren brew and ended up taking it out along with Thought Vessel.

Thanks XSVforce67! Can't believe I never noticed that before, I'll be sure to change that

I've always liked Ashnod's Altar for sacrifice decks. All the extra mana can be amazing. Fallen Angel is a fun one but tends to be a one off to end a game in my experience, still worth a thought.

Thanks Bhaal666, I tried Ashdod's altar previously with this deck, and due to Meren's ability to bring creatures back like Sakura-Tribe Elder and other ramp I don't require the extra mana, and had other sac-enablers i would rather use.

As for Fallen Angel, I am quite interested in this because my deck is quite lacking in fliers... and things with reach... so something i could use as a unbeatable blocker or lethal swinger would be really good! definitley going to test it out.

Thanks for the suggestions!

A few things Meren loves to do: Abuse ETB and LTB effects and killing ANYTHING you don't like on the table. May I suggest cards like Panharmonicon and Demon of Dark Schemes from Kaladesh as great examples.

Seeings as you're going heavy on the mill with Dredgers, you may want even more grave recursion like Dread Return, Glissa, the Traitor, maybe even Skullwinder if you really need a second copy of Eternal Witness, so when Meren is not online you are still able to function. On that note, no Lightning Greaves? In my meta targeted removal is quite large in the 1-4cmc ranges, and plenty of board wipes occur so protecting Menren is quite important.

Your removal for non-creature permanents seems quite low, I'd suggest Caustic Caterpillar. Acidic Slime, and a Bane of Progress as great answers for problematic enchantments and artifacts.

How come no Grave Pact effects? There's Dictate of Erebos and Butcher of Malakir that are much cheaper to buy and that make you loosing your creatures less one sided. A Pact effect coupled with an Archfiend of Depravity and looping Fleshbag Marauder around and around means no one gets to have creatures but you.

I'd also add in more ramp like Diligent Farmhand to go alongside Sakura-Tribe Elder and the like, also add in Wood Elves and Farhaven Elf just for even more ramp and chump blockers/sac fodder, or something to clamp for 2 cards and recur at the end of turn for even more land.

May I suggest some better sac outlets than Nantuko Husk like adding Attrition if it's in your budget, or Spawning Pit, Evolutionary Leap, ect? Also mention above Ashnod's Altar is a house.

Cards to take out for the above examples would be things like:-Corpsejack Menace: Buffing things is cool, but it really only lets a Varolz get big or if Mazirek, Kraul Death Priest do enough to be playable.

-Spike Feeder: Similar reason as above; it's cute gaining 4 life but relatively ineffective

-Doomgape: Same as above, gaining life is cute but i see a 10/10 without haste that bites it to a Marath with deathtouch or a Swords to Plowshares, and hardcasting it makes it even worse.. I would replace it with Avenger of Zendikar as a high cmc bomb, Avenger can single handedly win games. And when you sac and recur each turn.. man that's a lot of tokens.

-Altar's Reap: Really not that good. Greater Good does a much better job as it sticks around afterward if you wnted a 'like' effect.

I could suggest more but my suggestions are based on my meta so ultimately up to you.

My girlfriend has a brutal control deck with Meren at the helm and it's generally hard to keep up with. Check it out here if you want to have any more ideas.

Thanks for the comment Osbert! I'll run through each of your suggestions to let you know what I'm thinking about them.

Panharmonicon and Demon of Dark Schemes are both good suggestions, so I'll be trying them both out and moving them to the maybe board.

As for recursion, my deck already has numerous ways of bringing creatures back, but Dread Return may work. Glissa, the Traitor just doesn't really have a lot of value in this deck due to the lack of artifacts, and none of my artifacts are ever big enough of a threat to be removal worthy. (if so I have eternal witness to bring it back) Skullwinder just doesn't seem worth it at that mana cost though and me not requiring it that much.

I was running Lightning Greaves before, and i think ill put it in again to offer haste to my larger creatures and occasionally protect meren. But shroud doesn't protect against board wipes (which my commander group plays more of than targeted removal)

I think I'll also be trying to find a place for Caustic Caterpillar, but due to how my deck plays and the amount of recursion with meren, I don't need to run much more than that as even just Reclamation Sage alone leaves me with enough removal usually

As for Grave Pact effects, I have tried both dictate and butcher but their CMC was always too high in games for it to really be worth it but i think I'll add a grave pact to my deck

This deck doesn't need more ramp, from my playthroughs i have more than enough. Dawntreader Elk is a better Diligent Farmhand and i also have Viridian Emissary, Solemn Simulacrum, Sakura-Tribe Elder,Awakening Zone and Rampant Growth all are excellent ramp. So I don't need more ramp.

Nantuko Husk is actually quite valuable as a sac outlet, as often times i am able to attack with him and other "more threatening" creatures and have him go unblocked and swing for major points of damage. I will add Attrition though, but the others I've tested and just don't have enough value for me.

Corpsejack Menace was near the top of my to go list, so he will be leaving with some of your suggestions

Spike Feeder actually represents an infinite combo with Mikaeus, the Unhallowed where i gain a very uncute infinite life

Doomgape functioned well with Lightning Greaves so i should probably put those back in,as i mentioned above. But it is never hard casted as it is very easy in this deck to put things in the graveyard, while being able to swing for 10 with trample, sac either it (or any other creature i want in the graveyard) and then recur it is very sweet.

Altar's Reap isn't the best, but it's still alright in a deck that can make so many creatures, so until I find a better card advantage card for a cheap CMC it stays. The problem with Greater Good is that it's just not reliable in a deck that primarily only sacs 1/1 and 0/1 creatures, so in the end it makes me lose out on card advantage most of the time.

I do want to add Avenger of Zendikar though, as it functions close to Mycoloth which has been great.

Thanks for commenting CrazyGood-MTG9797
Underworld Dreams is an alright card, but I have other ways of dealing "pain" damage to my opponents that fit with the decks synergy
Dismember this deck is saturated in so much removal effects for creatures so this isn't needed.
Bile Blight Again, to control the board I have numerous ways of making my opponents sac creatures when I do, so i can remove their tokens.
Beastmaster Ascension my deck doesn't attack enough for this to be profitable before being removed.
Jet Medallion/Emerald Medallion Both fantastic cards, but I have enough sacrificial ramp in this deck that they aren't needed.
Abhorrent Overlord is a strong card, but I have other higher CMC who do a better job of finishing games, and due to Meren's ability I can just bring those same guys back even if they are removed, so I don't need a lot of finishers

Also, to "+1" a deck you have to hit the up vote button, and it might be handy to read the formatting tips article to make reading your comments a little easier

Death Cloud is interesting... but I'm not sure if I'm really into how much life it would also lose me... like I'd need to have it be the perfect conditions for that to actually work out in my favour.

Slum Reaper is an alright card, but it did make me look up an even better version of it being Merciless Executioner so I'll kinda be trying to put it in

Volrath's Stronghold my deck tends to function better when the big creatures are in my graveyard, like I know situationally this might come in handy, but so would having a coloured mana over a colourless

Jarad's Orders I definitely think this card should be in the deck, probably why it already is...

jrgette,
Please take all this with some healthy skepticism, as I've played against Meren but have never built her, and of course I have no idea what your meta is like! Still, here are a few thoughts ...

Finally, are you familiar with The Command Zone podcast? You may have already devoured their episode on Meren, but if not I recommend checking it out. Here's the decklist: CMDZ - Ep96 - Meren of Clan Nel Toth: Alex Kessler

Draw well!

Thanks clayperce!! with most of my midterms being out of the way I'm finally able to have time to comment back!

Strionic Resonator is a great idea!! definitely going to see if I can slide that in someplace, as I think it has a lot of potential.

I'm also not sure if Paralell Lives would be worth it in this deck, just doesn't seem like it would be worthwhile enough.

Oran-Rief, the Vastwood and Thespian's Stage also both look like fantastic options... I'll try thespians stage out for a little while though before upgrading it

I had already included a Liliana, Heretical Healer  Flip in this deck, but my personal playgroup sees walkers as over-powered... and removes them very quickly. This made it so my liliana never quite reached its full potential

And yeah Read the Bones... Greater Good wouldn't quite work as I'm not really sacking anything with a high enough power usually, but I am interested in Shamanic Revelation. I'll give it a try!

Thanks for taking the time to comment!!

Ward of Bones looks like a cool card, but it has a high CMC and wouldn't even lock down opponents as much as other effects. Also it would be nice if you provided some reasons for your suggestions... CrazyGood-MTG9797

I was thinking that this card maybe useful in longer drawn-out games. I was also thinking that Craterhoof Behemoth may be a great creature-boost sorce!?!
