Maybeboard

Do you have a need for speed? Do you have a need to slam face with Dragons? Goro-Goro and Satoru form an unlikely and cool alliance between Goblin Samurai, Human Ninja, and Spirit Dragons, the ultimate trinity of Cool Creature Types™️. Their game-plan is simple and straightforward:

  1. Cast them out of the Command Zone
  2. Turn some Hastey Guys™️, or Dudes That Enter Tapped and Attacking™️ sideways
  3. Make 5/5 Flying Spirit Dragon tokens after your fast bois connect with faces.
  4. Continue to swing for faces with your growing army of fast bois and Spirit Dragons until the table is dead. Simple as.

Goro-Goro and Satoru provide an exciting and aggressive alternative to the Spellslinging Evil Wizard™️ archetype that Grixis has kind of made for itself at this point.

For this build I opted to focus on a slight Dragon subtheme, and decided to not go the Ninjutsu route. There are great GGS builds that utilize Ninjas to excellent effect, but I chose not to utilize them due to having a couple of Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow and Satoru Umezawa decks in my meta. I've played against Ninjutsu decks plenty, and the play pattern isn't for me.

Remember to go fast, we're on a Time Limit

Based on my Moxfield version of the deck.

For this iteration of Goro-Goro and Satoru, I wanted to focus primarily on creatures that meet the following criteria:

  1. Already have built in Haste and evasion of some kind.
  2. Can return themselves to hand at end of turn without additional support from other permanents
  3. Can create tapped and attacking tokens when they attack, or tokens that are copies of other creatures around the board

My meta plays fairly aggressively, so I wanted my creatures to be able to hit hard on their initial hits and beyond. I recognize that Ninjutsu provides an element of surprise & additional value that can be hard to predict, but its creatures are mostly on the smaller side, and reliant on smaller evasive creatures for the Ninjutsu set up.

Cheat-in effects

Helpful for getting evasive bodies out at the higher end of the curve as needed.

I lumped the creatures with Dash in with those that have Haste, since they can attack & return to hand for multiple uses.

Haste Effects

Other anthem effects

  • Legion Loyalist - As previously mentioned, useful for aggro keywords for Alpha Strikes.

  • Berserkers' Onslaught - Each instance of double strike combat damage with GGS out will net 2 Dragon Spirit tokens, and if spread out across all opponents, could potentially net as many as 6 dragons in one turn. Definitely puts the rest of the table on a clock in the right conditions.

  • Kolaghan, the Storm's Fury - A board of swinging dragon spirit tokens can provide a scaling power boost.

Since the deck wants to create Dragon tokens via connecting with Fast Guys, the following provide some additional speed to whittling down life totals:

Combo Potential

Combo explanation

Breath of Fury + Goro-Goro and Satoru provides an infinite combo potential. Provided that Breath of Fury can enchant an evasive creature with Haste, it can then be moved to each new Dragon Spirit token that is created by GG&S upon combat damage. This works best if a haste anthem like Rising of the Day, Dragon Tempest, or Brudiclad, Telchor Engineer are also on the battlefield. Without a Haste anthem, at the very least GG&S can also be used to anthem up your team until end of turn.

The combo works most ideally with:
