Hate the rotation of Standard and the speed, predictability, and oppressively dominant archetypes of modern? Feel like Legacy and Vintage are too high for your budget? Then take your old standard deck off your closet shelf and help develop this new format!

Try Shelf, the new format where you never have to fear about losing value from Standard rotation!

In Shelf, you can take a deck that is or once was in Standard, and duel it against other decks that were or are in Standard. For example, you can play a deck of Mirrodon-Kamigawa deck versus an Innistrad-Return to Ravnica deck. The rules are as follows:

  • Decks in this format contain only cards from 8th edtion and beyond.
  • You can only use cards that were once in Standard together.
  • Your opponent can use a different Standard than the one you are playing with.
  • To sum it up, this format is Standard, but you can pick which Standard you want to play with.

The banned list for now is cards that were banned in their respective Standards. Here is a list of those cards courtesy of OtakulordAndrew:
  1. Ancient Den
  2. Arcbound Ravager
  3. Darksteel Citadel (Only banned in Mirroden Standard)
  4. Disciple of the Vault
  5. Great Furnace
  6. Jace, the Mind Sculptor
  7. Seat of the Synod
  8. Skullclamp
  9. Stoneforge Mystic
  10. Tree of Tales
  11. Vault of Whispers
  12. This list can change . If you have any thoughts, please comment.
If you like this format and want it to become a real thing, here's how to make it a reality:
  1. Comment and give feedback - Your feedback really helps! If it hadn't been for your comments, this project couldn't have come so far!
  2. Make decks! - This is one of the best ways to help the format grow. Making decks will give us an understanding of how this format might play, and it also spreads the word.
  3. Tell your friends - If you think your friends would love this format, then tell them! Remember, the more people that know about this, the bigger chances it has of succeeding.
  4. Help test it - As I have said before, testing the format by making decks can really help us.
  1. If you make a deck, first of all, thanks, and be sure to post it here to show us!
  2. Make sure your deck is format Standard.
  3. Link the format in your description, so people will understand what Shelf is upon viewing your deck!
  4. Make sure to list the cards in your deck from the printing of the set that they were legal in from your chosen Standard (so people don't get confused whether or not you're allowed to use the card.

Many people have been very supportive and committed to Shelf. Here are some shout outs to you guys! (in no particular order)
