Maybe Surrak, the Hunt Caller? Same cmc as Shaman of the Great Hunt and dies to less removal. Combine with mana dorks and a decent board presence and suddenly that Thunderbreak Regent or Savage Knuckleblade now have haste

Great idea! How about Dragonlord Atarka for nitty gritty games?

Brycetastic says... #3

Great suggestions. I think I prefer the Shaman of the Great Hunt since he combos well with Flamewake Phoenix and quickly makes them 3/3 or 4/4 with the +1/+1 and the game is over!

I might try Dragonlord Atarka. I have Atarka, World Render do you think he would be good as well for longer games?

Dragonlord Atarka is way better than world render and I personally like sarkhan unbroken better in this deck. As seeing if you can change the frost walkers for say den protectors? They bring back spells or creatures that you need.

I like Den Protector but I really like Frost Walker to turn on ferocious on turn 2 in case I need to counter something with Stubborn Denial when I try to get out Savage Knuckleblade (preferably with haste) on turn 3.

Thinking about running 2 Surrak, the Hunt Caller and going down to 2 Shaman of the Great Hunt and 2 Frost Walker. Looking for feedback...

Shaman just dies so fast in my opinion i couldnt find the synergy Whatever you want to call it Temur thats my temur deck and it runs pretty fast and im constantly tweaking it.

I would run more temur charm for a deck like yours, because it runs so many big threats with out trample, that you can activate the last ability and just win faster.

This is my Atarka aggro, please comment and up vote if you guys like it.

I have a midrange aggro Temur deck Atarka Temur Ramp and I would really consider running 3 Surrak, the Hunt Caller He is huge and almost always has haste the turn you play him, while giving another creature haste for every turn. I also advise putting Temur Charm in sideboard, and maining 3 Stubborn Denial may seem like much, but stops kill spells, plainwalkers, and all that for 1 mana provided they tap out, or you almost always have 4 power, also main 4 Crater's Claws before you resort to Lightning Strike

Thanks for the feedback Jacro123 & Carson12rocks. It's hard for me to leave 3 mana for Temur Charm, but I think I'll sideboard it and bring on another copy of Stubborn Denial. I liked having 3 copies of it, as I used too, since it can really be a game saver. As for Crater's Claws, I think I will keep the 3 and 2 Lightning Strike, since I sometimes need a easy removal and I hate to waste a Crater's Claws taking out a tricky 2/2 or 3/3 that's in the way... Although I can play Crater's Claws as a 1 drop when I have ferocious...

Love your deck! I play a similar deck, albeit only : Not Dragons? Then DIE! (Standard). Have you considered something like Outpost Siege in the sideboard for grindier games?

May 29, 2015 2:53 p.m.

Brycetastic says... #12

Thanks for the +1 JoshRigone. I used to run a single Outpost Siege but took it out to add more Crater's Claws. Might consider it for sideboard, but currently I'm needing something to help me bring down all the Abzan decks I've been seeing in the local meta... I'm thinking of sideboarding another Roast or maybe more removal spells like Temur Charm, Void Snare, and/or more Disdainful Stroke.

After having my Rattleclaw Mystic burned/destroyed at inopportune times, I've decided to give Sylvan Caryatid a shot. Also, decided that the deck is officially Temur Tempo, NOT aggro, although it is aggressively slanted.

Have you considered Sarkhan Unbroken?

May 30, 2015 9:27 p.m.

Brycetastic says... #15

I haven't really considered Sarkhan Unbroken, since I'm usually using Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker to send over a "free" 4 damage or remove a threat with his -2 ability. I'm not sure that Sarkhan Unbroken would really have good synergy with the tempo of this deck. I'll have to playtest some and see.

as a start, your mana base is solid. your issue against abzan, if that is your case lies in your sideboard. personally i would take out the Mistcutter Hydra, Barrage of Boulders and Hornet Nest. im also not sure about Destructive Revelry but that depends on your meta. abzan breakers in this format is 2x Hornet Queen 2x Dragonlord Atarka and maybe another Stormbreath Dragon. or otherwise more control based cards are never a bad idea in the form of Silumgar's Scorn or another Disdainful Stroke

Brycetastic says... #17

Thanks @magicalhobbits. I have two Hornet Queen and may consider running them instead of my Mistcutter Hydra. I originally had them and Surrak Dragonclaw because about half the people in my local meta were running control decks. Destructive Revelry was to sideboard when I came up against Whip of Erebos and white control decks that ran Pacifism and other shutdown enchantments. I'm thinking I'll add another Disdainful Stroke and I'm thinking of running 2x Temur Charm main deck to help get rid of or counter the Siege Rhino. Also going up to 3x Stubborn Denial to help with Dromoka's Command.

Another thought for your sideboard, depending on how aggressive the Abzan decks that you play against are: Anger of the Gods. A decent number of your creatures live through Anger, and it deals with Warden of the First Tree, Fleecemane Lion, Deathmist Raptor (permanently), Den Protector, and Rakshasa Deathdealer. Obviously, I wouldn't recommend this if the Abzan lists are more midrange and Siege Rhino based.

Brycetastic says... #19

Thanks for the suggestion JoshRigone. I've actually considered Anger of the Gods as an alternative to Barrage of Boulders since I run that in case I come up against token decks. I guess Anger of the Gods would take out my Sylvan Caryatid though... Probably worth it to take out everything you mentioned!

Anyone have feedback about running Ashcloud Phoenix vs. Thunderbreak Regent?

May 31, 2015 4:33 p.m.

JoshRigone says... #21

Personally, since you only have 5 dragons, I think that Thunderbreak Regent is a little weak. If you are able to consistently get your opponent down into the 3 or 4 life range, then Regent is still ok. However, I play Ashcloud Phoenix in Not Dragons? Then DIE! (Standard) and I absolutely love it! It is quite good against almost any opponent. Verses aggro, you cast it on four mana, trade with a creature and then use the morph to trade again. Against midrange it frequently forces your opponent to trade multiple resources to deal with it. And against control, if you resolve it and are ahead in the life total race (which you ought to be judging by your game plan) you find yourself in a very commanding position.

Really the only big issue for Ashcloud Phoenix is Siege Rhino - it can't trade with it and does not block profitably at all.

May 31, 2015 5:29 p.m.

Brycetastic says... #22

True true, I forgot that Siege Rhino has Trample. However, I think if I'm at the point where I'm blocking and giving up a Thunderbreak Regent or Ashcloud Phoenix to block some damage, I'm already in trouble. I think I'll give Ashcloud Phoenix a shot this week and see how it goes. I only have 2 at the moment so maybe I'll do 2x and leave one thunderbreak.

Anyone have thoughts on Rattleclaw Mystic vs. Sylvan Caryatid in this deck??

June 2, 2015 9:05 p.m.

JoshRigone says... #24

Well I like Rattleclaw Mystic much more on principle since it's more aggressive, but I think that Sylvan Caryatid is just a much safer bet. I used to play Rattleclaw in Not Dragons? Then DIE! (Standard), but ultimately I found that it was dying almost every game and stranding the Thunderbreak Regent or Stormbreath Dragon in my hand.

I think what it really boils down to is the decision to either play Deathmist Raptor + Den Protector + Rattleclaw Mystic and try to be a bit faster or playing the slightly slower, albeit more resilient route of Stormbreath Dragon + Sylvan Caryatid + Thunderbreak Regent .

Brycetastic says... #25

Great insight and I agree completely. While it may be nice to occasionally get in an extra 2 or 4 damage with the Rattleclaw Mystic I dont think its worth it when it could get killed and stall out my deck. When someone completely ruins the tempo in a tempo/aggro deck it can be game over, most of the time. I think I'll stick with the 4x Sylvan Caryatid and also leave the 3x Thunderbreak Regent. While I think that Ashcloud Phoenix could be good, I need a stronger blocker in the air so that I can keep doing a solid 4-8 (or more with Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker) in the air. Thanks to everyone for the input!!!
